Don’t limp home, omni-shamble contagion

696

There’s always a bit of trepidation before Celtic play a meaningless game, like they will do in Turkey tomorrow, the propensity to pick up injuries feels higher, although this is possibly not borne out by statistics.

Before Sunday the team look like they needed a break but no injuries, please.

It’s been a long time since I’ve heard allegations that some or other council are controlled by, and for the benefit of, an ethnic or religious minority.  This is an old-time prejudice, up there along with allegations of criminality or the personal hygiene habits of the minority.  But like Corporation buses, they come in groups.

Anyone can report Celtic for whatever they like, and believe me, many do.  Which is a great pity, as there are real targets worthy of attention elsewhere…..  For years, while others were buying football bling, Celtic were acquiring land, all appropriately, as is their borrowing.  More importantly, they have been able to establish all of this without question. Confirmed.

Just because one club was an omni-shambles doesn’t mean any others are.  Enjoy the laugh.

That’s just rehashed SNP propaganda. People over here don’t believe it. That’s why the bookies are so sure of the outcome.

OK given that the guy walked free, what moves do you see happening to improve the situation if the union stays?

Do you think it’s more likely that the SNP will retain power in the Holyrood as a reaction against Westminster, particularly if the Tories retain power at the next election, or will the SNP lose the majority?

Do you want to retain a situation whereby the Scottish population can have laws imposed upon by a party that only a tiny minority voted for?

  4. Snake, your reasoning on Sterling is breathtaking in its ignorance of economics, and your comments on the EU are breathtakingly ignorant about politics.

Your whole case seems to be : It’ll be ok because Alex says so…

  5. Independence is an expensive illusion. In my opinion, the smaller the entity (Nations are a relatively modern phenomenon) the less independence it will have. I don’t know enough about all the issues regarding Scottish independence, nor would I have the audacity to tell people how to vote, but membership of the EU is most definitely not “Independence”. Ireland inc. will be paying back billions of Euro over the next 30 years because they didn’t understand that.

  6. Incidentally, I didn’t vote for the SNP – and nor did the majority of people in Scotland. Yet it would appear I am having laws “imposed on me”

What should I do? Declare myself independent?

Go on and explain where I am wrong if you’re the expert.

I am no economist I’ll grant you but where there is a will there is a way. A black hole will not swallow Scotland.

As for the EU. Please point out where I am wrong.

You offered your assertion, I gave mine.

If Cameron asked the EU they’d need to give a definitive answer – why doesn’t he?

You’re entire argument is I don’t know what the future will bring so I’ll just stick to what I know. There is a word for that and it isn’t sensible.

Show me another country in the world with the assets of Scotland who are happy to be ruled by another one and I’ll show you the only one dumber than Scotland.

What is this garbage we are now hearing from the ‘queer folk’ about the illegal land-grabbiing by Celtic to provide our training facilities at Lennoxtown? I am no lawyer but I would be confident in defending Celtic’s case in this affair. First of all, Lennoxtown is in East Dunbartonshire and not in Glasgow. Secondly, Celtic only went to East Dunbartoshire because Glasgow Council had turned the down. Celtic who wanted to build their new training complex in their homeland of the east end of Glasgow ,in the land around Barrowfield. This proposal was turned down by Glasgow Council for the ludicrous reason that ‘if they did this for Celtic they would have to do the same for Rangers’.. Only in Glagow could this cock-eyed logic could be used as all the while, they had their ‘state of the art’ training facilities at MURRAY PARK at Milngavie outwith the Glasgow boundary.. I can only conclude that this fairy tale has been launched in advance of more bad news for our poor neighbours across the river.

What we do know is that every major advance that has benefited ordinary working people in Scotland have come about through the election of a Labour government in London

Remember that in 1945 Scotland actually voted Conservative

Being brought up in a Labour household I was always taught that I had more in common with working class people in Manchester,Liverpool,Birmingham and London than I would ever have with the populations of the Highlands etc

To this day they vote – not for the Labour Party but for the LibDems or SNP

So where would this socialist Utica be based in an independent Scotland?

Do you think Morningside will go red? Do you see a red Perthshire?

Politics is mainly about demographics – RCs are a small and decreasing minority in Scotland – they will be increasingly insignificant in voting terms – that’s the reality of our situation

Anyone who thinks Scotland doesn’t have a problem with anti Catholic – especially Irish Catholic bigotry is deluding themselves

When this was raised the Scottish Government response has been to criminalise CFC supporters! – that’s the reality of what’s actually happening !

Doesn’t suggest things will be better in a country where these self same people will have sovereign power unchecked by London!

  14. Let’s talk minority percentages as winners.

In 2011 the SNP won a theoretically impossible majority at Holyrood with 45% of the vote from 50% turnout – so roughly 22.5% of the population voted for them.

In the 2010 general election the Conservative had 16.7% of the votes from a 64% turnout so although only 10.7% of Scots voted for them they still ended up with a mandate to rule here.

  15. Secret info on the new proposed Scottish Currency,

    100 Bawbes = A poond

    5 x Poond = A 5 spot

    2 x 5 Spot = a 10 spot

    2 x 10 spot = A score

    2.5 Score = A Sesh

    2 x A Sesh = A Radger

    5 x A Radger = A Whitey

    2 x A whitey = Blowoot

Would you like the possibility of a more socialist Labour party? Or are you happy to keep the one that is against free school meals for P1-3?

If you think changes for the better are more possible with things as they are that’s fine. I’ve yet to see anything positive from the No campaign. It’s nothing but fear from them and as I’ve said before I know of at least two people that were stongly No that have changed, largely on that basis.

Fear and scaremongering is the realm of the Daily Mail and the Right.

  21. Snake it late but I will answer on the economics point.

Your scenario seems to be :

    Scotland leaves uk

Uk refuses to act as bank of last resort to Scotland citing recent chaos with economic unions not underpinned by political union.

Scotland says “stuff you, we’ll use pound anyway oh and by the way we won’t take our share of national debt.”

    So.

Scotland is blackballed by international markets who refuse to lend to a country which defaults on its debt and has no reliable credit history, nor it’s own central bank.

Scotland – already running a deficit – has to massively hike taxes or slash spending or both or face bankruptcy.

Scotland – on an invidious position – is finally admitted to Eu after years of torturous negotiations and in return for using the euro has to sign up to ever close economic and political integration with the rest of the Eu.

    Including the UK…

    Honestly. What. Is. The. Point

  22. The Labour party has a history on sectarianism

A longer history than the SNP in that respect

The labour party of Larkhall preached a very different message about Catholics than the Labour party of Coatbridge and Croy

Thats their MO in central scotland – sectarianism wins votes

If we vote NO next September what will happen on….

    Student fees

    Free prescriptions

    Free eye tests

    Free travel for the elderly

    Frozen Council Tax

    Etc

Good luck to those of you who choose to vote Yes. Imo you’ll need it. I cast my vote 50 years ago having gone to London accompanied by a statue of the Sacred heart my mother insisted I take with me. I was put up by the Civil Service in a shared bedsite with a guy from Nottingham. I’m not sure whether he waspuzzled more by what the statue was about or my asking him if he minded me putting it on the mantlepiece. For the first time I’d met someone to whom my religion was of no concern beyond curiousity and so it has been for me ever since. Only on my return to Scotland overthe years did it ever seem to matter and despite having job opportunities over the years the only attraction I had to return was to watch Celtic. Not enough justification to uproot a family!

I am intrigued though by this view that all will be well if independence occurs The SNP will magicallydisappear and be replaced by a liberal radical party and all the ingrained prejudice of past years will vanish. Those of Irish descent and the catholic religion will be protected and respected as a contributor to Scottish Society and all will be well.

As I say good luck as I believe it will be a case of plus ca change for the minority at best. The problem remains endemic in the Scottish physche and removing the SNP will not eradicate it. All my imo of course.

That’s a fair point – the LDs took 18.9% so the total for both them and Cons was 35.6%, so 22.7% of the population voted for the coalition parties. So it’s about even in terms of the overall vote. Although that only represented 12 of 59 Scottish Westminster seats. The Lib Dems have had zero influence where it matters and they’ve committed suicide. It remains to be seen whether those that voted for them will do so again. In Scotland I envisage a fair amount moving to SNP actually.

Labour took 41 seats and 26.9% of the population voted for them.

This country wants a socialist Labour party in power but it’s not going to get it. We’ll be saddled with an SNP Scottish Assembly for a long, long time.

  31. My friends in Celtic,

If like myself you believe that the concept of Police Scotland was a political act more concerned with power and control rather than pure economics, then the fact that ministers are discussing dropping the general requirement for corroboration should be of concern.

The convener of the Scottish Parliament’s justice committee, one Christine Grahame was discussing the detail outlined in the Scottish government’s Criminal Justice Bill.

As “Doc” last night stated; this we are told is primarily designed for more convictions in rape, domestic violence etc. This is good.

What is not good is that a purely Scottish safeguard against miscarriages of justice will disappear. In effect more power of conviction will be handled to the police.

From a football perspective ,added to the odious OB act, you can see the obvious dilemma.

When the Scottish legal system is opposed to this, we need to question how and why. Remember it is this same legal system that is preventing many convictions attributable to the OB act.

Will the next discussion be about removing the Sherriff’s or Judges powers in certain cases. ?

Think what we could be about to sleepwalk into.
