Don’t limp home, omni-shamble contagion

696

There’s always a bit of trepidation before Celtic play a meaningless game, like they will do in Turkey tomorrow, the propensity to pick up injuries feels higher, although this is possibly not borne out by statistics.

Before Sunday the team look like they needed a break but no injuries, please.

It’s been a long time since I’ve heard allegations that some or other council are controlled by, and for the benefit of, an ethnic or religious minority.  This is an old-time prejudice, up there along with allegations of criminality or the personal hygiene habits of the minority.  But like Corporation buses, they come in groups.

Anyone can report Celtic for whatever they like, and believe me, many do.  Which is a great pity, as there are real targets worthy of attention elsewhere…..  For years, while others were buying football bling, Celtic were acquiring land, all appropriately, as is their borrowing.  More importantly, they have been able to establish all of this without question. Confirmed.

Just because one club was an omni-shambles doesn’t mean any others are.  Enjoy the laugh.

I don’t have the time or inclination to type the detail, believe me this stuff is total horseshit from stupid Sevconites on land transfers to and from Celtic.

Council employees and District Valuers do not put their jobs, pensions and family on the line to benefit their favourite football team, Celtic are correct in addressing this head on.

Time to look after our own prospects, unite, and keep our own council.

If you miss the dead Rangers buy shares in them to keep them afloat, and maybe go along and buy a season ticket at ‘The Cheatery’, the SMSM is turning up the anti Celtic message to sell papers.

May I suggest as a Celtic person you a) Purchase nothing with SFA. b) Stop buying red top newspapers and the Herald! c) both a&b.

keep the faith, let’s get out of the SFA/Sevco love-in!!

20 years ago i would have voted yes without a blink of an eye……but now?

Maybe its because im older and cynical……maybe its because ive grew up…..or maybe its because i will never have a clue about these things……but…..theres some things that i cant get out of my head and its images of “peepul” like mad dog adair standing as MPs and being voted in, in their constituencies that makes me think that we should say no.

Maybe thats taking things tooooo far but at the same time…..can anyone else see communities getting behind characters like that?

    Toooo unsavory eh?

    Perhaps Donald Findlay QC?

Clever guy(always wonder how much pro bono hes doin for sevco?) anyway…..theres probably quite a few like him out there thats “ready” to do what they can for their erm…..traditions.

If Scotland had managed to move beyond the sectarian problems that exist here then i think id have went for it.

It actually scares me what Scotland could be like if it was in its own hands to remain insular.

The independence debate has been very interesting, but I can’t help feeling we’re missing the point.

We’re arguing about political parties who are all fighting over a tiny piece of middle ground, where the only power they have – that’s you and me – is to set some very blunt economic parameters, and work out how the money from diminishing tax returns is going to be spent. Or not, because a lot of it is going against interest on the national debt. Guess who owns 70% of this debt – UK based companies, mainly banks. That’s right, those organisations that caused this nightmare in the first place. You gotta laugh, or cry.

And the diminishing tax returns? That’s because these organisations are playing on a completely different game board from you, me, and any government. They’re shifting jobs offshore by the score, and are funnelling profits to low tax offshore havens, and ther’s bugger all any political party can do about it, because it’s a global issue.

Bald men and combs springs to mind. Independence nor the status quo won’t change one atom of it.

    The SNP are Tartan Tories

Are Tartan Tories like regular Tories?

To me regular Tories are like regular American Republicans.

Therefore the question you must ask yourself

Will the Tartan Tories confiscate the wealth away from the Scottish people as everyone in history including other Scots have done?

    or

will they remember their egalitarian principles that they so vehemently espouse?

    Well ?

    Do you feel lucky?

    Well do ya?

  9. I come over from TSFM and a political debate is raging–well, not really. I spend a good few weeks in Scotland each year. I look at your politicians–Jesus wept!

Sinn Fein would have them for breakfast, as would the DUP.

    I’m a Republican.

I don’t think a lot of Scots get what that means. It’s not singing the Roll of Honour (a crap song, in my opinion). It’s helping the old age pensioner along the road who lives alone.

It’s standing up to the yobs who would bully them and the kids.

It’s involvement in local politics and planning.

It’s challenging the politicians of different parties in the papers and radio.

Helping local and other charities where practical involvement helps.(This is where Celtic supporters excel)

Listening to the other point of view.

LIsten–Why don’t you form a Scottish version of Sinn Fein?

Don`t think I`m eligible to vote.Been in Oz 30 years.

Good New Year to you and yours,16.

  27. Whether referendum; whether independence?

Seems to me every genuine western democracy has a healthy disregard of politicians. Maybe that should read every healthy western democracy has a genuine disregard of politicians?

Either way it seems this cantankerous country is in the right place to decide.

I wonder if any now western independent country would vote for reunion or reabsorption? Ireland? Iceland? Norway? Sweden? Czech? Slovakia?

It is obviously absurd that Scotland could not be a viable independent country and all parties acceptance of such would aid the debate enormously.

Sadly it seems the ‘yes’ camp cannot endorse this self evident truth as they are fearful the electorate would have an independence eureka moment and rush without debate to the Saltire. They are wrong of course.

The ‘no’ camp in consequence are playing the man instead of the ball. Rubbishing everything Westminster and everyone with union views suggests they fear an independence eureka moment will never arise. They are wrong of course.

I’m not so idealistic as to believe there can be a campaign without negativity and mud slinging but surely the debate can reach a higher plain.

The determining independence issues surely are:

    Economically…much difference either way?

    Security…much difference either way?

    Socially…much difference either way?

    Politically…much difference either way?

Taking the premise of a viably independent Scotland is it not the case…

to vote ‘no’ suggests the Treaty of Union provides overwhelmingly better prospects?

to vote ‘yes’ suggests Independence provides, on balance, better prospect?

Before anyone asks…I’m an undecided with more of a leaning towards ‘no’ largely through fear of a more exposed economic position and fear of making any decision!!!

  28. Damn!

See above ‘yes camp’ and ‘no camp’ transposed!

CELTIC have made a move for Norwegian star Stefan Johansen.

And they are also keen on Sporting Lisbon superkid Carlos Mane.

It is believed Celtic have had talks with the £1.9million- rated Johansen’s club Stromsgodset with a view to a deal this month or in the summer.

Norway’s current Player of the Year has a year to run on his contract but he is interested in joining the Hoops.

Celtic are also weighing up a move for Sporting Lisbon youngster Mane

    Atlantico/Press Association Images

Celtic’s new scout and former Dundee United boss Peter Houston has been spotted watching Johansen, 23, in Norway’s top flight.

Johansen has played six times for Norway, scoring once, and is seen by international coach Per-Mathias Hogmo as one of his key talents for the future.

The left-footed Johansen ticks all the boxes for Celtic with his age, price-range, international status and potential.

Johansen has been capped at every level and is recognised as a free-kick specialist.

English clubs Aston Villa, Everton and Manchester City, plus Serie A outfit Roma have been linked with him. Celtic manager Neil Lennon revealed he has at least 12 names on a transfer wish-list as he seeks to bolster left-back, centre-half and striker options.

Lennon has a sizeable transfer kitty available to strengthen the squad and is anxious to bring in new faces this month.

Right-sided winger Mane, 19, scored against Celtic in the NextGen competition for youth teams and has been trailed by Manchester United scouts.

It’s been reported he has a £1million buyout clause in his contract.

Mane was just seven when he joined Sporting Lisbon and made his first-team debut only three months ago.

  30. ALMOST scarred mentally at 16. Then scarred physically at 20.

Virgil van Dijk only just made the cut as a teenager starting out in football.

But that — along with emergency surgery he had to undergo four years later — makes him appreciate everything he’s now got.

Too small as a kid, Virgil came close to being told to forget about football.

Then in 2011 he was struck down with agonising stomach pains which saw him require a life-saving operation.

He’s a picture of health now after battling back and plays for Celtic like he doesn’t have a care in the world.

But as he revealed in his most frank interview since joining the Parkhead club last summer, it’s not always been that way.

From Celtic’s training base in Belek, Turkey, the 22-year-old said: “A tough time for me was when I had an abscess in my abdomen two years ago.

“I was seriously ill. The doctors said it was very, very dangerous.

“I lost around 15kg in weight. I had poison in my system and the abscess almost burst.

“It was dangerous and I was in hospital for 12 days. Lucky for me it didn’t burst.

“But I had a lot of drains inserted into my body. It was a very tough time but I got over it and I feel very lucky. It was a worrying time because it came from nothing. I didn’t feel well and they gave me some pills, but they were the wrong pills.

“When I first felt unwell they gave me some medicine because they thought it was just stomach pain. For two days after that I was throwing up green stuff.

“My stomach wasn’t good, so I went back to the medics and they did some urine and blood tests.

“They didn’t find anything, but the day after that I went to the hospital because I couldn’t take the pain any more. They said I needed an operation.”

Lifting his shirt to show two huge scars on his stomach, van Dijk added: “I can show you. They tried to operate on this one side, but they couldn’t so they closed that and operated in the centre instead. It was big surgery, unbelievable.

“I was playing for Groningen at the time, but my recovery was actually quite quick.

Van Dijk has battled back from serious illness

“It was the weekend of a derby against Heerenveen and I missed that. Then I went to hospital and they operated on me on April 1.

“My first training session after it was June 23, but I was not fit at all. I started training again and I was bad. I had no power, no muscles, nothing.

“But I played every pre-season game and I recovered. It was such a great feeling to be back.”

The experience only made van Dijk stronger.

Just like when he was starting out in football and was on the verge of being released for not being big enough.

The Dutchman, now 6ft 3in, added: “When I was younger at Willem II I they thought I was too small, so they played me at right-back. Then they almost kicked me out.

“I was 16 at the time. It was a very dangerous point for me because they were really talking about sending me away.

“I was one of the worst players in the team. I was a bad player. Slow, small, I wasn’t good.

“I didn’t play a lot of games. They were so close to releasing me. But the next season I grew 20cm and I had problems with my knees because of that.

“But when I got over that everything went up the way. They gave me another chance and I grabbed it with both hands. I became captain of the team.”

It’s experiences like those which make van Dijk appreciate the life he’s got.

He plays for a club he loves, living in a city he loves, with a gorgeous girlfriend he loves.

Van Dijk added: “The beautiful thing in life for me now is that I do what I like. I do what I love as well and I get paid for it. That’s a beautiful thing to have.

“Everything happens for a reason and maybe there was a reason that happened to me.

“Maybe it was my diet, I don’t know. But I learned a lot from that. I think I’m a better human now in a lot of aspects.”

His faith in God is also part of the life van Dijk’s lives away from the glare of the floodlights.

He added: “On New Year’s Eve I stayed with my girlfriend until ten o’clock then went to church to say some prayers and after that to the hotel to join the team.

“When I was younger I went to church every Sunday and when I got older I stopped, but sometimes I pray and I feel it has helped me through some tough times.

“I pray for my family, my girlfriend and people that I love.”

Manchester City and Arsenal have been linked with moves for van Dijk, and he admitted: “I’m flattered that big clubs like those have an interest. But the only thing I can do is play games.

“I’m enjoying my time at Celtic. I’ve never played in a side that’s unbeaten in the league and looking to break records. It’s amazing. I enjoy everything about Celtic.”

Geordie keeper Forster has enjoyed a rapid rise since joining the Hoops in 2010.

Lennon cites Forster’s cap call-up as one of the best achievements of his reign.

Forster said: “The gaffer has done a lot for me and I will always be very grateful for that. He brought me to Celtic and has shown a lot of faith in me, and it was very nice of him to say that.”

Forster, 25, is in Turkey with Celtic for a winter training camp, where they face Trabzonspor tomorrow.

He added: “It’s been nice to have a change of scenery, come away, get some sun and get some work done.

“There is a lot of time left this season, so it’s important to keep our unbeaten run going and keep putting in the performances.

“The run has been brilliant and that’s something we want to keep going. We have not been at our best over the last few weeks, but we’ve ground out wins, which is the most important thing.

“If you can perform well it’s an added bonus and we have been pleased to keep the run going.

“We are high in confidence. We have picked up a lot more results following Champions League games than we did last year.

“Although we were disappointed by the Champions League, there was less of a hangover after it.

“We are a year older and a bit more experienced.”

  32. TONY WATT last night revealed Celtic boss Neil Lennon ordered him to return to Lierse.

The Hoops striker was ready to cut short his season-long loan after coach Stanley Menzo branded him lazy and unfit. But after talks with boss Lennon, Scotland Under-21 Watt insists he has put the bust-up behind him.

He said: “I spent time in Scotland and talked to my family and my manager at Celtic. It was soon clear to me a return to Celtic was not on the agenda.

“Menzo was hard on me, but it was never personal. We’ve had a good chat and are fine. After winter you’ll see the real me.”

  33. JOHAN MJALLBY has challenged misfit strikers Teemu Pukki and Amido Balde to prove they have big Celtic futures.

Both Hoops hitmen have struggled since arriving at Parkhead last summer.

But they look set to play together in tonight’s friendly clash with Trabzonspor in Turkey — and assistant boss Mjallby has urged them to grab their chance. He said: “Balde and Pukki are likely to play together in at least one of the games.

“It’s not been easy for them to get into the team because of this unbeaten run we’re on.

“That’s the way it should be at a club like Celtic.

“But they are here for a reason, so they should look at this as a chance to impress the manager.

“We believe they’ve got it. It’s been frustrating for them, but hopefully they can get some confidence by scoring.

“Amido’s been patient. He was signed for the future in a way. He’s still young, a bit raw, but he has a lot of things going for him.

“He is a strong runner and is physically very strong too. He should be good in the air as well.

“Teemu has had more playing time than Amido, having come with a bigger reputation.

    Mjallby has challenged striker Pukki

“His confidence probably isn’t there. It’s taken him time to settle, but we still believe in him.

“He’s a quiet boy, he isn’t a livewire who is going to speak up in the dressing room. But he’s a good footballer.

“He sees a pass and he will score goals if he’s given the opportunity. It’s down to him, though.

“As a player you cannot just expect to be playing if you’re not scoring goals.

“He needs to grasp his chance when he gets it — now would be a good time.

“He’s under pressure in a sense, but the main thing for Teemu is he believes in his own ability and tries to get his confidence back.

“We signed him because we know what he can do. But it’s down to him to impress the manager.

“He just needs one or two good games and he will hit the goals.”

Celts are working behind the scenes to sign a new striker.

And Mjallby insists gaffer Neil Lennon has earned the right to spend big money on a goalscorer.

He said: “I don’t think it’s too much to ask to get a striker who might cost £5million.

“But we’re not in desperate need to get someone right now.”

  34. CELTIC will have to pay at least £3million to land Huddersfield midfielder Oliver Norwood.

The Hoops are keen on the Northern Ireland ace and value him at around £1.5m. But that’s believed to be HALF what the Championship side would even consider for Norwood.

SunSport understands The Terriers have had no direct contact from Celts chiefs — and they don’t believe the Premiership leaders can afford their hefty asking price.

The Hoops have already baulked at Huddersfield’s £8m asking price for striker James Vaughan.
