Don’t limp home, omni-shamble contagion

696

There’s always a bit of trepidation before Celtic play a meaningless game, like they will do in Turkey tomorrow, the propensity to pick up injuries feels higher, although this is possibly not borne out by statistics.

Before Sunday the team look like they needed a break but no injuries, please.

It’s been a long time since I’ve heard allegations that some or other council are controlled by, and for the benefit of, an ethnic or religious minority.  This is an old-time prejudice, up there along with allegations of criminality or the personal hygiene habits of the minority.  But like Corporation buses, they come in groups.

Anyone can report Celtic for whatever they like, and believe me, many do.  Which is a great pity, as there are real targets worthy of attention elsewhere…..  For years, while others were buying football bling, Celtic were acquiring land, all appropriately, as is their borrowing.  More importantly, they have been able to establish all of this without question. Confirmed.

Just because one club was an omni-shambles doesn’t mean any others are.  Enjoy the laugh.

  1. CELTIC starlet Dylan McGeouch is being lined up for a loan move to Partick Thistle.

The Scotland Under-21 midfielder has struggled to get into the first-team this season.

McGeough, 20, has started just one game — the League Cup defeat to Morton.

Now he could join the Jags for the rest of the campaign.

Neil Lennon is keen for his young Bhoys to go out on loan to play first-team football.

Callum McGregor has been a hit at Notts County and Jackson Irvine is at Kilmarnock, with John Herron wanted by Dundee, St Mirren, Mansfield Town and Carlisle United.

Stopper Mohsni echoed his manager’s views and urged refs to give Gers more protection in future — as he explained why he saw red against Airdrie.

“After the Airdrie game, I was happy we had won but I was a little bit upset as we had taken a lot of kicks and there were lots of fouls.

“Their right-back swore at me so I swore at him back which I know was stupid, but I did it.

“Their manager walked straight to me and was swearing at me so I swore back at him too.”

If the uber capitalists on the Celtic board have done anything untoward on land deals then we will hear about it soon enough from the Orange Masonic SMSM.I happen to think everything is above board and didn’t even merit a statement from Lawell and Co.

Let the Huns deflect and deny as I feel some seriously bad news for them is coming very soon.

Lawell owes us a statement on our position re the shareholders being cheated by Sevco for years.Unlike the land deals and soft Co-Op land deals, this cheating by Deadclub was proved in court.

I have been advised on here before that Celtic prefer to keep an eloquent silence lest their own words be used against them.

It is not for me to determine when Celtic should chose to speak out, nor is it for me to determine when the should keep their own counsel.

I can’t help but notice what they do chose to speak out about and the often impressive alacrity which carries their words.

I can’t make my mind up on this one. I am most certainly not putting my boot into them for speaking out but a big part of me wishes they had chosen the rope a dope option and let that prat talk himself into jail.

What they have been saying about the land deals stretches back to 2012, it has taken a long time to reach UEFA, and seconds to be heralded in the media, that speaks volumes for idiots being fooled by idiots. With all their shenanigans, their refusal to accept their own history and the death of it, their continued promotion of regimented supremacy, etc., etc., they have tied themselves into the ultimate Gordian Knot. They can’t reconcile the spoils of their greed, it is beyond their compassion or comprehension, so what else to do but attempt to smear others their hue of slime.

I really do hope Celtic play this like the 7 – 1 game that we all know is in them.

  9. Kitalba….

Thank you for the clarity of your response….it is appreciated.

Just one thing though….Is this a UEFA issue or an EU issue,or both?

  10. From the Idylls of a Plank:

The shackles of an old love straitened him,

His honour rooted in dishonour stood,

And faith unfaithful kept him falsely true.

To UEFA dear he penned ten thousand poisons.

  11. kitalba –

I take your point about there being a time to hold one’s own counsel, but as the EC is involved here, this story will be more or less Euro-wide. A sizeable proportion of Europeans reading this news will not be familiar with the local nuances involved with regard to from whence the complaint originated and the history behind the complainants.

I suspect the general consensus, even as close to home as south of the border, would be “no smoke without fire”. In that context, Celtic FC were quite correct in issuing a prompt and robust dismissal of the charges.

“Preposterous” to me, sounds about right.

  12. ryecatcher:

I think it would be an issue for both to be honest, but I’m happy to be corrected on that.

This prat and his cronies have been trying to get this off the ground for over a year, I honestly wouldn’t lose any sleep over it.

It is – to the best of my knowledge – no more than very hopeful mischief making. I’m just glad that that mug wasted a year of his life on it, nobody gets a wasted year back.

Maybe he’d have served himself better if he’d taken up a hobby, like map reading, or gotten himself a girlfriend.

  13. Tom:

I’m not saying they were wrong to react so quickly, and react very quickly they did; however as I said a big part of me wanted to see that dope talk himself into jail. He’d have a lot of time to send letters and reflect. And if that ever does come about and he does find himself in jail, I’m going to send him a book on angling and a fishing rod.

  14. Kitalba,

The guy who started all this on a blog was someone who used to post as Newtz, on RTC and latterly TSFM.

He unearthed some gems on Deadclub back then but seems to be trying to even the score now.

Your salient points on the Offensive Behaviour at Football and Threatening Communications Act confirm what we all know – the inept act will only serve to lengthen that shadow.

No revisionism on my part, I quite clearly used Paul McBride’s comment in relation to the Heart’s fan acquittal.

I then proceeded to use the shadow analogy in relation to the Offensive Behaviour at Football and Threatening Communications Act all on my own. I though it was pertinent.

EC to investigate decision by Commonwealth Games Selection Committee in awarding the 2014 games to Celtic, oops sorry, I mean Glasgow…..

Actually, there will be plenty of Sevconians who actually believe the above freudian slip.

On the one hand, they laugh at the prospect of Celtic having to play away from their home ground whilst simultaneously seething that Celtic Park has been chosen as one of the main host arenas.

  29. Morning Paul et al,

long time no post – Happy New Year to all my friends on CQN.

I’ve been tracking the nonesense about the Lennoxtown land acquisition for some time now and whilst state aid law is incrediby complex I do have experience of working with another football club on a development where they required to purchase land from a local authority. Both the council state aid lawyer and the club’s lawyer were at pains from day one of the deal to ensure that state aid laws were not breached and every step of the negotiations was referred back to them. State Aid is not about the value of the land and whether a deal is discounted (there are other council and central government regulators to deal with that)- its about avoiding using government resources to provide an unfair competitive advantage. State Aid happens every day all over Europe – if it didn’t economic regeneration initiatives would fail, however in those circumstances the state aid will have been approved by the Commission. Interestingly (and to throw in some whataboutery) the grant that the former Rangers received from Sport Scotland to develop Murray Park (circa £2m from memory)could be construed as State Aid however the Sport Scotland vehicle to provide the grant will undoubtedly have navigated the state aid rules.

The bottom line is that Celtic have an excellent legal team, as I’m sure did Greater Glasgow and Clyde Health Board – state aid is a major point of due dilligence in any land deal involving the public sector selling to the private sector. I have absolutely no doubt that Celtic’s advisors will have dealt with this point in advising on the acquisition. It would’ve been a short paragraph in their report as there is absolutely no possibility that this deal could be construed as state aid!

On a separate point – the accusations against Mr Divers, former Chief Exec of the Health Board are scandalous and ought to prompt a letter from his solicitors to both footballtaxhavens and Chris Graham.

Amusingly the man actually responsible for securing the deal was Tom Campbell, former Church of Scotland minister and now working for Prince Charles at North Highland Initiative!!
