Don’t limp home, omni-shamble contagion

696

There’s always a bit of trepidation before Celtic play a meaningless game, like they will do in Turkey tomorrow, the propensity to pick up injuries feels higher, although this is possibly not borne out by statistics.

Before Sunday the team look like they needed a break but no injuries, please.

It’s been a long time since I’ve heard allegations that some or other council are controlled by, and for the benefit of, an ethnic or religious minority.  This is an old-time prejudice, up there along with allegations of criminality or the personal hygiene habits of the minority.  But like Corporation buses, they come in groups.

Anyone can report Celtic for whatever they like, and believe me, many do.  Which is a great pity, as there are real targets worthy of attention elsewhere…..  For years, while others were buying football bling, Celtic were acquiring land, all appropriately, as is their borrowing.  More importantly, they have been able to establish all of this without question. Confirmed.

Just because one club was an omni-shambles doesn’t mean any others are.  Enjoy the laugh.

  1. A wee story…..

I’ve worked in the building industry for nearly 40 years now and land “deals” are very common. A prime example….

Around 25 years ago, a town council very close to Glasgow had some spare ground/derelict land. It was very close to prime real estate, but, because of vary-ing land levels and various other engineering problems that would arise if the land was to be regenerated, found it hard to sell or develop.

Some wise councilor came up with a bright idea. He persuaded the council to run a competition open to major house builders only. Whichever house builder could come up with the most aesthetic and practical design for a “new village” would win the land and be granted permission to build houses to sell to the general public. A particular house builder won the competition by designing this “village” based on a “Cornish fishing village”

They proceeded to build something like 300 semi and detached houses, and sold them all within 2 months of finishing the project.

NOW…….who should we report to the European Commision?

    1) The Council, for giving the land away, who are now reaping the benefits of rates from the householders who would never have been there but for the fact the land cost the builders nothing?

    2) The house owners who possibly paid £10,000.00 less than they might have had the builder included the land purchase price that they never had to pay?

    3) The builders themselves, who were able to employ the tradesman and labourers who were game fully employed for at least a year thanks to the Councils ingenuity?

    4) The local shop keepers who continually enjoy the fact that the householders who otherwise would not have been there, spend money buying wares and groceries from their shops?

    5) or the councilor whose innovative idea has been earning the council millions of pounds in rates over the past quarter of a century…….

So…..who exactly do I complain to…and who should I report first?

    Thank you to France. Com

It is commonly believed, outside France, that virtually all schools in France are state schools, i.e. in the public sector. This is a misconception. Over 80% of school pupils are in state schools, but this leaves a substantial (and growing) minority of almost 20% who attend private schools – far more, for instance, than in the United Kingdom or the USA.

However the private/public divide is not as clear as it is in other countries. Private schools in France are essentially (about 90%) catholic schools, in which there is religious instruction in the curriculum; they select their own teachers, but must follow the same curriculum as state schools if they wish to remain under contract (écoles sous contrat) to the state education system. This is a very important point for almost all private schools, as it means that the state pays the teachers. Consequently, private schools in France only charge symbolic or low fees, and are accessible to pupils from all sectors of society, not just to those whose parents are well-off. There are only a handful of fee-paying boarding schools in France, similar to English “public schools”.

Salmond told Sir David Frost, in an interview to be broadcast on Frost over the World on Al Jazeera English: ‘Obviously HMRC have got to pursue, in the public interest, taxation.

‘Equally, they’ve got to have cognisance of the fact that we’re talking about a huge institution, part of the fabric of the Scottish nation, as well as Scottish football, and everybody realises that.

‘The most die-hard Celtic supporter understands that Celtic can’t prosper unless Rangers are there.

‘The rest of the clubs understand that as well. Therefore you have to have cognisance of these things when you’re pursuing public policy.

We’ve certainly been arguing to HMRC on one hand, and indeed to Rangers, to for goodness sake get a settlement, get a settlement and a structure over time whereby Rangers can continue because Rangers must continue for the future of Scottish football and for the fabric of the country.’

Your interpretation of this quotation reveals more about you than Alex Salmond.

You seem to think he is only talking about one group of people with this speech.

Let me put it this way – haven’t people of more than one religious group been moving back and forth between Scotland and Northern Ireland for centuries?

What exactly is it you object to about this quotation which centered around looking out for your neighbour and one with whom Scotland has a number of family ties? After all there are loads of people particularly in the West of Scotland who have some family connections in that part of the world are there not?

Googybhoy I’m no expert on the schooling system in France but I note that the preferred option of the state is secular, 80%. It’s not hugely surprising that they also provide funding to Catholic schools which is after all the majority religion. Apply that to Scotland how many votes would they win funding schools of a minority faith and I include Muslim faith schools in that. Knowing what you know about the best little bigoted country and the snp’s flagship offensive behaviour bill what do you think Salmond will do?

  18. Without doubt the coming year will be the most significant in Scotland’s history since our nation was ‘bought and sold for English gold’ in 1707. The Independence Referendum on September 18 gives us the opportunity to take responsibility for governing our own country and shaping our own lives.

Saying ‘No’ to independence would, in effect, be giving the green light to further Westminster-imposed ‘austerity’ measures, such as the Bedroom Tax and cuts to vital public services. In Scotland, we reject the Tories at every election, but voting ‘No’ in the Independence Referendum is the equivalent to voting Tory. Every ‘No’ vote is support for David Cameron and his London-based government of posh-boy multi-millionaire Tories. Every ‘No’ in the Independence Referendum is a vote for the Tories to continue imposing their will on Scotland.

Think I’m exaggerating? Do you think the Better Together anti-independence campaign is simply a grouping of cross-party activists who would prefer Scotland remained within the British Union for no apparent reason other than that’s the way it’s been for 300 years?

Certainly, the Labour Party appears to be fronting Better Together in Scotland – the organisation’s principle spokesperson is former Labour Chancellor of the Exchequer Alistair Darling – but look behind the facade and you find the anti-independence campaign is funded by Tory money, much of it donated by people who live in England and so won’t actually have a vote in the referendum. Better Together is a Tory front, with the ‘useful idiots’ of the Labour Party doing the donkey-work that, ultimately, seeks to retain control of Scotland – more accurately our natural resources – for use by future London-based Tory Governments.

The absurd position of the so-called ‘Scottish’ Labour Party is that they would rather Scotland continued to be governed by Tories from London, than have a Labour Government in an independent Scotland. I say so-called ‘Scottish’ Labour Party because no such political party actually exists. ‘Scottish Labour’ is simply a ‘description’ registered for use by the London-based Labour Party.

In the last few weeks of 2013, Better Together revealed that 19 wealthy individuals had given them a total of £1.3m to fund the campaign against Scottish independence. One donation of £200,000 came from Andrew Fraser, a City of London stockbroker and former head of Barings Bank. In the past, Mr Fraser has given £1m to the Tory Party.

Another prominent Tory donor, Sir Chippendale Keswick, gave Better Together £23,000. As Chairman of London-based Arsenal Football Club, Mr Keswick’s interest in Scottish politics or the future of Scotland is not immediately obvious.

In addition, two separate donations of £10,000 were received by the anti-independence campaign: these came from senior figures in the private intelligence firm Hakluyt, which has links to the British secret service organisation MI6. Better Together also pocketed £50,000 from Ivor Dunbar, an executive with London-based Deutsche Bank.

Earlier in 2013 it was discovered that £500,000 of the funding being used against Scotland re-taking the status of a normal, independent nation had come from one man, Ian Taylor, a long-term donor to the Tory Party. Mr Taylor does not live in Scotland.

Ian Taylor’s money partly comes from his role as Chief Executive of Vitol plc, a company that trades in oil. In 1996 Vitol paid $1m to Serbian warlord Arkan, apparently to sort out some problems that had arisen following a secret deal to supply Slobodan Milosevic’s Serbia with fuel. Arkan was subsequently indicted by the United Nations war crimes tribunal in relation to crimes against humanity: he was assassinated in 2000.

Still think I’m exaggerating about the Tory control of Better Together or Labour activists’ role as ‘useful idiots’ in the anti-independence campaign? Alex Mosson is a former Labour Lord Provost of Glasgow, and this is what he had to say on the matter: “The latest roll call of No campaign donors should really come as no surprise to anybody who understands the vested interests at play here. This should act as a wake-up call to everybody, especially those in the Labour Party, if they’ve been kidding themselves that the No campaign is anything other than a Tory-led propaganda machine.”

Sir Charles Gray, a former Labour leader of Strathclyde Regional Council, added, “The fact that Darling and his No campaign are prepared to accept hundreds of thousands of pounds from right-wing Tories and bankers would be a joke if it weren’t so serious. It completely nullifies what might have been genuine were it not for the fact that they will take significant donations from wealthy people who will not have a vote in the referendum in desperation to prove a pretty hollow case. The more they take the more weak their cause becomes.”

Both Alex Mosson and Charles Gray, Labour men to the core, have seen through the Better Together facade: they have realised the organisation is nothing more than an attempt to retain Tory control of Scotland.

Alex Mosson and Charles Gray have announced they will be voting ‘YES’ in the referendum. More and more Labour Party members are realising that independence doesn’t mean a one-party (SNP) state. After Scotland re-takes its independence in September this year, there will be a period of negotiations between the current Scottish Government and the London-based UK Government. There will also be negotiations between the Scottish Government and the European Union. Then, in May 2016, we will elect MSPs to the first independent parliament and the first government of an independent Scotland. Which party (or parties) forms that government is for the people of Scotland to decide.

One thing is certain: with independence we will always get the government for which we vote, unlike Scotland within the British Union where we reject the Tories only to have them imposed on us by the electors of England.

The reason more and more Labour Party members are signing-up to ‘Labour for Independence’ is because they realise the full sovereign powers that only come with independence present an opportunity to traditional Labour voters to help build a better, fairer Scotland. They also realise the position of the London-based Labour Party is currently tying them into Better Together, a front for the Tory Party and an organisation whose vision for Scotland is more London-imposed austerity.

Like you and everyone else I understand the fears but here is the thing bud – all this is happening and has been happening in Scotland for over a century. It is the British state which legitimizes much of these feelings.

The only thing I can think that the SNP have done that is bad since taking office is an awful piece of legislation which WILL be defeated if we are properly organised to do so. The Fir Park events aligned with the banners at the Milan game and the carry on in Amsterdam have given ammunition to those who would see Celtic fail and it crucially has helped to turn public opinion against those who think said law is a disgrace but let us also remember that this law has a VERY high approval rating among the general public because most people view Celtic and our former rivals’ supporters as as bad as each other and they want all that goes with both clubs kicked out of the game.

I disagree with the SNP on the offensive behaviour bill but what else have they done that is so truly terrible?

Please don’t give me the guff about Alex Salmond speaking to HMRC as evidence that he is against Celtic. Jim Murphy of Labour did the same thing with Lloyds bank when they were the spectre looming over them and he’s supposed to be a big Celtic fan so what was his excuse?
