And, continuing my rant, our defenders need to be more physical. They are too easily brushed off the ball. Having said that, I did enjoy the game. Griffiths gave us much more energy and deserves his chance of a wee run in the team.

Disappointed but not too worried after today’s result. Scep’s goal was wrongly disallowed and Leigh Griffiths was unlucky to strike the post. We should have won game was played at a great pace, there was a tremendous atmosphere in the ground and it was an exciting game to watch. Most of our Bhoys played well but thought that James Forrest looked out of sorts today and could have been subbed early in second half. However, it’s Christmas, we’re top of the league with a four point cushion and Sevco are skintus maximus.

It is more ingrained than that. LG gets booked for a challenge that was less than Dillions challenge on Guidetti. So why was he booked ? Because it broke up a good threatening Utd. attack.
Based on seeing them in previous performances against Celtic, I would not be in favour of signing any United player. Armstrong and Makay Stevens have rarely showed up in those games and Ciftic has been anonymous in a few.
Today was probably the best performance by both Ciftci and Armstrong against us but they both played in a team that, on balance of play, should have lost by 2 clear goals.

Cifti played well today but I don’t think that he is mobile enough. There is no way that he is as good as Gueditti although that decision would not be based on today’s evidence alone.
Time for perspective this last three matches we have created loads of chances but had no one to bury them. I would give Griffiths a run in the team as I feel he is our most natural finisher.

You can’t blame the referee for the disallowed goal – it was 100% the linesman’s call and he got it badly wrong. All this mibbery stuff does my head in. It’s as bad as the rigged draw garbage when sevco get a home cup tie against a low level opponents.
Bottom line is we ought to have won the game regardless of that decision. Ambrose’s performance was frankly embarrassing.
I actually enjoyed the game even though we lost. We’ll still win the league by a distance.

One good thing from today is that both Griffith and Scepcovic showed they know how to put the ball in the net. I hope that gives RD pause to think.
The lack of a comfortable goalscorer makes games tighter than they might otherwise be.
Guedtti disappoints me in his jousts with CBs who often go past him to get the ball first when he should be blocking them.
This was not a game that left me groaning at poor play ( apart from one or two miss hit passes when no pressure) but the longer it went without us converting the chances the more I could see a defeat.
DU defended well after first 15 mins with 10 men behind the ball and a second mugging was always possible.
In situations like that referee decisions can cost points and so it turned out.
McLean is a wrong un. You can tell, even when the “h” has fallen off.
What we have seen today is all Neil Lennon’s fault.
I joke of course, but there is some truth in it.
Teams play against us the way we played against Barcelona. Two tight well drilled defensive lines ready to counter at speed, and a bit of luck. Cost of the squad doesn’t come into it, there are some days where the team of who on paper are weaker get the result due to hard work, some luck and the odd mistake.
Today was that day for Dundee Utd, there will be others this season and do you know why? Neil Lennon showed them how to do it.

Sipsini,
I’m on about Ciftci wriggling away from Izzaguire with his back to goal on the byeline and getting his cross to Armstrong. No defender should be allowing an attacker to bully him like that.
Joe Filippis Haircut (14:16) [and others], an alternative interpretation of some aspects of the game…
DU’s first:
The ball was played into the centre by Armstrong and deflected off a Celtic player (Bitton?), changing the trajectory of the ball. Big Efe was moving in a direction towards the initial trajectory of the ball, with all his momentum going in that direction.
As a result of the deflection he had to try to change direction in an instant, but with his size and weight he was unable to do so, and just missed making contact with the ball with a desperately outstretched leg. He then managed to get goalside of Ciftci and attempted to prevent a clear shot at goal, but Ciftci just managed to steer the ball around Efe, an inch beyond Gordon’s fingertips, and just inside the far post.
It was a very well taken goal by Ciftci, and I think the level of criticism against Efe is somewhat over the top. We could equally expect Gordon to have got a hand to the shot and pushed it away. The wayward pass in midfield which handed over possession to DU in the first place seems to have completely escaped criticism!
DU’s second:
When the ball floated over Matthews’ head to the unmarked Armstrong at the back post, Matthews threw his arms in the air in frustration that none of his team-mates were covering the DU player.
But as Armstrong was attacking from Celtic’s right back position, should Matthews not have been marking him, rather than being sucked across to a position to the left of the centre of the Celtic goal? Surely VVD should be covering that area, rather than standing in no man’s land on the edge of the six yard box, picking up no-one.
I expect to see defenders following the ball and being pulled out of position like that in amateur games, but at this level the defenders should have more awareness of the attacking players’ positions, and the Celtic midfielders should be offering more cover to avoid the defence being pulled out of shape.
We have the same number of players as the opposition, and our players only have to run the same amount as their opponents in order to cover them, so there shouldn’t really be unmarked opponents inside the Celtic penalty area.
There were many aspects to both of the DU goals, and I feel it is unfair to blame a single player for either of them.
