Dysfunctional Amsterdam

770

Three weeks ago there was little argument against the observation that Ajax had the worst European travelling support we have seen at Celtic Park – half a century of history.  Attacks on Celtic fans by a roaming gang on Tuesday night was not a surprise.  The banner, which Uefa are trying to ignore, but will surely be shamed into doing something about, was offensive and, in most jurisdictions, a criminal offense.

When the police collaborate it’s hard not to verge into the realms of branding a society “dysfunctional”.  Amsterdam is wealthy, affluent, liberal but intolerant, badly policed and violent.  The visit of Celtic fans passed with less incident (and arrest of visitors) than most visiting fans endured in recent seasons.

Visit Bruges instead.

It probably will not happen but that’s what the club should do – we should always expect the highest standards of behaviour from all those involved in our club – from supporters all the way to the board

No I wasn’t in Amsterdam – my employer would never allow time off for such a trip

Not sure what relevance that has to what I said – which was that all those involved should be investigated with equal vigour

The guilty should be punished no matter who they are -fans or police

Your wrong mate. There were lots of star of David flags on show when they were here.

Its a wellknown that they have a sizable Jewish following.

Do some research and you will see.

What an appallingly grubby little individual Malcolm Murray actually is…….if ever the world needs to know whats wrong with Scottish society at large then look no further.

Why he would even need to know where the name Brazil originates from for a football chat in about the orcs is astounding….…..

Hopefully the ‘Tim pole’ will be come a must visit spot for all Celts visiting Amsterdam.

  7. croppybhoy,

I share your sentiments Ref Cork Celt: “Condolences on your sudden and tragic loss – hope that you can all stay strong for each other at this sad time.”

Your comments ref Amsterdam are spot on. Truly sickening to see supposed upholders of the law acting like that.

For the six unfortunate souls still locked up will any proof of thuggery be as convincing as what we witness from the plain clothed police. The sight of a dog being encouraged to bite surely breaches human rights in some form.

What we have seen can not be explained as self defence by the authorities and as you say “Hope that the club investigate and push for the appropriate action to be taken against all those involved

Should that turn out to be Celtic fans then so be it

However should it turn out to be the Dutch police then I would expect our club and governments ( both Scottish and UK) to push for proper disciplinary action up to and including criminal prosecutions”

    Very well put croppybhoy.

    HH, Always in Celtic.

  8. All this talk of Brugges being boring.I got a lovely wee shawl for my wife there!!!.So there!!!!.

  9. On the train to the game on Wednesday.

We were giving the ajax fans pelters.

Then one of the Ajax fans heads down the train towards us.

    We were expecting trouble.

And he says ‘Can you sing i can’t get enough we love that song.’

Much relief and hilarity ensued followed by the song.

  10. Many Jewish fans were driven away from Ajax by the ‘F side’s (Ajax Hooligan firm) use of the star of David and other Jewish symbols. I’d be surprised if any of the hooligan element were of the Jewish faith let alone religious.

As a matter of fact during the German occupation of WW2 they deported the majority of the country’s Jews to concentration camps, with the cooperation and active assistance of the Dutch police and civil service. The Netherlands saw one of the highest levels of collaboration during the Holocaust of any occupied country. 75% of the country’s Jewish population were killed during the conflict.

My take on the sentiments of his words are slightly more sinister than that and I could be wrong because I refuse to listen to him, but I thought his words were an attempt to glorify and romantisize colonialism.

I thought by referring to Rangers as a fantasy world wide diaspora was the implication it was scots huns that ’emigrated’ ‘volunteered’ or god knows what their interpretation of colonialism (slavery’s blood cousin) is, but whenever Rule Brittania ruled the waves – it was them who built the infrastructure of all of those countries.

In my opinion made even more sad by the fact he is educated and should know better.

Do you know what, Rangers have become something of a past thought to me (admittedly I live in the north of Ireland), I dont look out for their results or make any attempt to find out how they are doing.

I then made the mistake of reading an article on the daily record online website because I wanted to find out how the night had panned out for Celtic supporters the morning after the game and carried on scrolling down to the comments pages and there was the reminder.

huns who are more obsessed with Celtic fans than they are of Sevco Football Club.

What a sad breed of peeepil

Where’s his condemnation of the banner in the Ajax end mate? He hadn’t even got on the plane before when he made his comment about a banner in the Celtic end last season.

  16. Good interview with Neil on Celtic TV. Confirmed Sammi is out for tomorrow – said Sammi declared himself fit for Wednesday. Clearly wasn’t ready imo. Unhappy that the team have to travel 3 hours on the coach to Ross County for a 12.15 KO tomorrow. Had no time to prepare his team and the players have had the bare minimum of recovery time. Hinted that he will be looking to freshen up the starting 11 tomorrow. Hope he does.

  17. Ht- re The banner couldn’t agree more – happy to ban our fans on a flash – but where is the condemnation of a banner being raised calling us F—n bast–rds- -hh safe trip tomorrow ( forward planning done ?)
