  1. TheOriginalSadiesBhoy on

Watched the game on the telly so I thought I’d pop into CQN to find out how Celtic had actually got on today. To be honest, I can’t believe the criticism on here at times.

This was a cup game against an up and coming ‘non-league’ team. It was their cup final, the biggest day in their history and they were determined to do themselves proud – which they did. They didn’t choke. They were a credit to themselves, their manager, coaches and their support. They remained organised throughout, tried to play football and to keep hold of the ball.

We won 2-0. A tricky game negotiated successfully. We are in the next round of the cup. I had no desire to see EK slaughtered and humiliated nor did I have a bet on Celtic to win by a certain score. We won. Job done. I’m happy at least.

  2. Before the game all I was looking for was to get back to winning ways and get though the game without injuries. So I am satisfied.

We were on a hiding to nothing. It was a no contest we made plenty of chances over 20 shots at goal from 70% possession. Effe getting a lot of criticism, true his crossing was terrible not seen much worse. However he tackled well and broke up a number of moves and willing looked for the ball, he never hid. BTW I am not an Effe fan.

I guess I mean Scottish players who can play at the top level in a way Dalgliesh did.

We have a lot of very good players but not elite.

I coach A level U 14s so have see fair bit of player movement between pro youths and top A level youth set up. In my experience there is too small a margin between boys who have forsaken school and boy’s club with pals to chase a chance at pro level. u14 youth players actually play more football but obviously get lower level of coaching. The net result is boys aren’t that much different particularly among the best teams across the country at youth football level.

When I was younger ( I’m in my late 40s) the boys who went to pro clubs very quickly developed miles faster than the boys a boy’s club.

I played against Derek Fergusson as a kid. He went to Rangers before you knew it he was 17 and playing for Rangers while Boys club guys played amateur or occasionally Junior.

Good to be in the round as expected.

Well done East Kilbride .didn’t see the game so can’t offer an opinion one way or another. Next 2 league games need 6 points.

Celtic away to the winners of the Kilmarnock/ The team who shall not be named replay ..?

You have totally misinterpreted my post, I could not give a monkeys about Sevco, I am only concerned with the here and now.

Remember Sevco are not in our league, did you mention them as a deflection tactic.

I also don’t care which side of the fence you fall, however I get the impression you take a neutral stance allowing you to play Devils advocate.

My opinion is change is needed NOW to win the league, where is this imaginary improvement you see, we are a shambles, a mish mash of ordinary players cobbled together with no purpose.HH

  8. still find it hard to understand that concerned celtic fans who openly want Ronny to pack his bags ( myself included) are getting it tight from …well I dont know what to call them TBH …..board lovers , happy clappers ……..wonder how they would react if Paul67 withdrew his support of Ronnie in tomorrows post ………would you change your minds lads ? mm

A pleasure to have a wee chat today big yin!

I can understand those who want to back Ronny, I’ve just been debating with eddieinkirkmichael on Twitter, however, I personally don’t believe he’s got what it takes at Celtic. I just don’t understand what ‘support the manager’ on a blog works.

Bishop Lawwell and cardinal Donut ..now I dont know how to work that one in…sorry!

  12. My friends in Celtic.

Many posters have spoken about the great experience for the EK Thistle team. Especially for their young players. I agree, this was like their cup final and doubtless they will benefit from the experience.

Our young under 19 players will experience the same on Wednesday when they face Valancia at Parkhead in the EUFA youth tie. Previously we have played in Livingston, so for many of our players this will be their first game at Celtic Park. This game KO 5 o’ clock is live on BT Euro channel.

Rather than give EK gate receipts, I would give our share to Jim McIntyre’s team for future development.

    HH.

  13. glendalystonsils on

Tell you what…….if our defence were as well organised and focused as EK’s were today, we would be in the LC final, probably would have made the CL and would have a comfortable points lead over the sheep.

  16. Margaret McGill on

Is that just wishful thinking or is it true? Celtic donating all gate receipts to EK??

Thats a wonderful gesture if true.

Think of it like passin the plate.

    “SFTB

You have totally misinterpreted my post, I could not give a monkeys about Sevco, I am only concerned with the here and now.”

No, you have misunderstood my answer. There wasn’t anything in your post TO misrepresent. All you said was my post was garbage and then you invited me to give my opinion.

    So I did.

The thoughts about our support wanting the Ibrox club to play, were represented clearly as my thoughts and never were attributed to you.

“Remember Sevco are not in our league, did you mention them as a deflection tactic.”

No, I mentioned them for the reason I stated- that many fellow Celts want to play them and I find that sad. What, on god’s earth, was I supposed to be deflecting from? That my original post was garbage? Or that I was on a fence (now presented as neutral).

“I also don’t care which side of the fence you fall, however I get the impression you take a neutral stance allowing you to play Devils advocate.”

I ask again- what “neutral” stance? What “devils advocate”? You asked me for my opinion- I gave it. No sitting on fences was involved. I came down on the side of Ronny- I still do.

“My opinion is change is needed NOW to win the league, where is this imaginary improvement you see, we are a shambles, a mish mash of ordinary players cobbled together with no purpose.HH”

I did not say that improvement was there- I said that he is challenging players to improve. It has not worked in the past 3 games – it did in the 3 prior to that. It did not work in the Molde and Malmo games but it did in aspects of the games vs Fenerbache and Ajax. This is not a story of constant deterioration in play- it is one of ups and downs. there have not been enough ups and there have been too many downs but it is still not a constant direction.

I like Ronny’s ideas on how the game should be played and I don’t think the team or the manager is anywhere near as bad as some critics say but, in the end, my minority opinion will not be influential or helpful. Unless Ronny can get the players to buy in more than they are, then he will be another short term manager of Celtic and we will get some new bling in? We will replace our idealistic, untried, project manager, Norwegian PE teacher Diddy with someone who will be either Michael O’Neill with Brechin and Shamrock Rovers on his CV or Big Yogi Hughes who has Hartlepool and Hibs sackings on his CV or Stubbsy who has one season with Hibs on his CV.

I think Ronny is the braver choice to stick with. Still wish he would tighten up the defence again though (as he did last year).

  19. ronniesgreatestfan on

what is the stars, what is your view on Ronny Deila? Do you think he deserves more time or are you starting to question whether he has what it takes to be a “star” for us after all? I know that you have been keeping your feelings about our manager very close to your chest, what would it take for you to be convinced one way or the other that “yes Ronny is a great manager” or “no his time has passed, he must now leave”?

  20. The Battered Bunnet on

Gate receipts? News to me. But wherever folk are buying beer, you’ll find me right at home.

  21. There was always a strange feeling about today’s game. It was one that it was really a pain and inconvenience. We have bigger worries and bigger fish to fry or try not to choke on in the next few weeks. An unwinnable situation. This was a game had to be ticked off without much fuss. The players treated as that and we got a dreadfully dull performance on a bitterly cold day.

I’m hoping it was that. As if that was them trying then the confidence denting last week has kicked all signs of life from them….

Learned nothing from today but then those looking for answers today are asking the wrong questions.

I’m looking forward to that game on Wednesday, especially as I understand it’s a winner goes through play-off. Not sure if this is the squad that Chelsea put five past so it’ll be a bit worrying.

Happy about the win today, well done Celtic and well played East Kilbride.
