Energising offensively

1455

I’ve spoken to many Celtic fans over the last couple of days but I’ve not met one who would have preferred Roy Keane to be our manager instead of Ronny Deila.  Despite some impeccable references, Ronny is a largely unknown character, but there is an appreciation among the support that we need to come up with a plan to enable the club to over-achieve in Europe.

The man’s performance at the media conference was faultless.  It’s not important to quick-witted but his use of words like “energise” and “offensive” is promising.  Football is in the entertainment business and Ronny appears to appreciate the link between the way his team perform, not just their results, and the ultimate satisfaction supporters’ leave the ground with.

Our thanks to the Greenock Celtic Supporters Club for hosting last night’s CQN Lions fundraiser for the Celtic FC Foundation.  We were fortunate to be entertained by Willie Wallace, John Hughes and Bertie Auld, it was a fantastic night, full of laughs.

Special thanks to those who attended and helped raise over £2000 for the Foundation, and to those who promised to get involved with the Foundation.  The club is in good hands with supporters like those in Greenock last night.  Big shout to Joe and Mick for bringing a familiar old friend along.

Visit the CQN Bookstore to get Tommy Gemmell to sign your personal copy of his tome, All the Best.

Edgar Davids wanting to fight with everyone at the Soccer Aid game…nothing changes

Meanwhile Kevin Bridges comes on as a sub to join the Celtic contingent of McAvoy, Compston and Nicky Byrne, who has just scored the goal of the night.

    Kit,

Renewing my seat this year has been £100 cheaper, just like last year,

And just like last year, the Kano Foundation has provided me with the opportunity to give a kid the equivalent of my intro to Celtic “A lift o`er mister!”

£50 for a child season ticket may not be the near open doors policy you advocate but the Kano Foundation have to be supported in their efforts.

So why dont those who wish to give up their physical presence at Celtic Park for “aesthetic reasons” hand over the baton to the future support?

    Good points Niall.

Had MO’N not been blessed with HL, would he have achieved what he did? I have my doubts. Actually I don’t. He wouldn’t have achieved what he did without that most brilliant all round talent.

Totally agree. I just think that sometimes when people slag of the current strategy or play up MONs achievements (and I’m not putting them down for 1 minute) they forget about how unbelievably brilliant Larsson was. How many other players would have scored those 2 goals in Seville!!

I think you make a fair point. Of course everyone of us have a right to make a point about anything, whether it is about scottish independence or not.

What does my heid in is some who pretend to post their view as if they have a vote in the referendum when they don’t.

Now when Barack Obama gave his view that the Union was what he wanted (nothing to do with nuclear submarines in the Clyde of course) it annoyed me. He doesn’t have a vote. He was trying to influence those in Scotland who do have a vote, but didn’t tell the truth why he thought it was in the USAs interest. No-one however was so deluded that they believed for a second that Barack had a vote in the referendum. His views were seen as those of an outsider.

On the other hand I think it is underhand of some folk on here to give a view, either for or against independence, while pretending they have a vote, when they don’t have.

    TBJ,

I am in receipt of the Kano Foundation Newsletter each month and it does wonders for my admiration of those involved and the joy they bring to the less well off in our communities with the simple act of bringing Celtic in to their lives.

I think Pukki will develop into a good player for us. He’s fast, skillful and can score goals. So far he hasn’t scored anywhere near enough goals but I think he will improve. I’m hoping he’ll get around 15 goals next season!!

The thing is, like Sammi, while he isn’t prolific he can score against the best teams. He has 7 international goals including goals against Turkey, Czech Rep (x2) and Spain (i.e very good international teams) and scored 3 goals in Europe for HJK against Schalke. Compare that with Stokes who scores lots of goals in SPFL but never scored against Rangers, hasn’t scored in about 10 internationals and only scored 2 European goals in 17 appearances. At the highest level Stokes lacks the pace to be anyway effective!!

I will happily concede that Boerrighter and Balde are complete duds!!

    I don’t have a vote, and I’m a citizen of another country.

However, the lack of tolerance and respect for people of a differing opinion is getting sickening on here and on other Celtic web sites.

The treatment of fellow Celtic fans, no matter their opinion yes or no, should be tempered by the fact that they are first and foremost part of the Celtic family.

No one’s views will be altered by insulting them.

  19. There is a player in Teemu Pukki, he has got 7 goals for us, in just over 25 games, of which most have been as a substitute

If possible would move Boerrigter and Balde on though

    Along the same lines

Three decades ago I had an older, wiser Indian programmer working for me.

He told me the story of the old cow and the young cow grazing in a field.

The young one ran up to the older cow and said “Two bulls are fighting in the next field to see who gets to service us. Let’s run up to see who wins.”

The old cow looked up and said “Keep eating. No matter who wins, we will still get screwed.”

  23. I have seen quite a few signs that Teemu Pukki might turn into a player. I saw signs in his first game that Boerigter might have something but I haven`t seen it since. I have not seen anything in Balde that suggests there is talent there.

    JJ

  24. JJ

In fairness big Amido has also scored a few for us, but,

Like you, I do not see a regular player for us there

    Same with Boerrigter though

    Hail Hail

  25. West Wales Celt on

Pukki frustrates me. He has a good touch, positional sense and he can finish.

So often though he’s a secon too slow and gets caught out.

Not sure he’ll ever br a prolific goal scorer, he’s doing for us what he’s alwsys done; just short of 1 in 3…

  26. Balde just looks so awkward on the ball most of the time.

And in a lot of the games he came on we started hitting high balls up to him and the timing of his jump was terrible…..he never seemed to come anywhere near the ball!!

Will be very surprised if he makes it at Celtic!!

  27. Pukki is not fast

He has been outpaced on most occasions

He does not score goals ( check his stats over last 4 to 5 years. Awefull )

If Ronny can change the above he will be an absolute genius

But me thinks more chance to turn foster into a centerforward

  28. eddieinkirkmichael on

I sometimes wonder what my life would had been if I had made different decisions at certain points in my life. I remember one occasion in the Gorbals in 1978 when a good friend thought it was a good idea to chase the dragon, he died less than 2 years later with a needle in his arm.

I was roundly mocked as a shiter but something inside me said this wasn’t a good idea so I took the abuse and sat at the side of the room as everyone else got out their faces.

That voice spoke to me at various times in my life, some times I listened but to my shame sometimes I ignored it. Fortunately ,for me, the results of ignoring this voice hasn’t been disastrous for me or my family.

A young guy I work with has ignored this voice in the past and as a result he has suffered by being put in prison for various offences, usually Police assault or resisting arrest.

I met him about 9 months ago in the pub, he asked if I could get him a job. I explained that at that time I was also looking for a job but if I got one I would put in a good word for him. He had to do one thing though, give up the drink. That was the deal if I was to get him a job.

Anyway I managed to get a job and the firm was looking for another worker so I put in a word and they took him on. As the days past he shared his story with me, his upbringing was not one of love and encouragement. I wont go into detail but this young man has inspired me with his desire to move on and make a better life for himself.

We have helped him out getting a flat in Glasgow away from here, where everyone judges him for his past deeds. A mate has even given him the offer of an apprenticeship as a heating engineer, he starts with him in the morning. I know he’ll do well as he’s a great young guy that just needed a chance in life.

There are times when we can effect positive change in life, we just need to have the guts to listen to that voice in our head that says yes. (not that I want to get involved in the Indy debate)
