Energising offensively

1455

I’ve spoken to many Celtic fans over the last couple of days but I’ve not met one who would have preferred Roy Keane to be our manager instead of Ronny Deila.  Despite some impeccable references, Ronny is a largely unknown character, but there is an appreciation among the support that we need to come up with a plan to enable the club to over-achieve in Europe.

The man’s performance at the media conference was faultless.  It’s not important to quick-witted but his use of words like “energise” and “offensive” is promising.  Football is in the entertainment business and Ronny appears to appreciate the link between the way his team perform, not just their results, and the ultimate satisfaction supporters’ leave the ground with.

Our thanks to the Greenock Celtic Supporters Club for hosting last night’s CQN Lions fundraiser for the Celtic FC Foundation.  We were fortunate to be entertained by Willie Wallace, John Hughes and Bertie Auld, it was a fantastic night, full of laughs.

Special thanks to those who attended and helped raise over £2000 for the Foundation, and to those who promised to get involved with the Foundation.  The club is in good hands with supporters like those in Greenock last night.  Big shout to Joe and Mick for bringing a familiar old friend along.

Visit the CQN Bookstore to get Tommy Gemmell to sign your personal copy of his tome, All the Best.

“If I had a vote in Scotland, I’d vote for free education… for ever”

    ————————————————

Nothing is totally free and nothing is forever, but education is as close to “free” at the moment as is practicable.

So why plunge into the unknown and put this at risk.

    HH to you.

  2. Oh dear, politics quick news again. Does ma tits in. End of. Now go away and geez all peace. WTF will this place be come September? Feck off all you ‘Billybhoys’ and your ilk. We don’t need no stinking indie debates here. Wish it wasNovember and the annual poppy debate, which I also dislike but prefer more to independence debate on a Celtic blog.

If, as seems more than likely, it’s a no vote, the SNP will implode.

Scotland is a divided country and has been for centuries. It has little to do with Alex Salmond.

The whole thing ends only when Scotland becomes independent and we go forward together as a nation.

The division was there before the referendum and it will remain after it if we vote no.

If you are saying he shouldn’t have bothered then I cannot agree with that I’m afraid.

    Kit,

I’ve had a wee word with myself over the past few months. The blog stuff isn’t worth getttin upset about. I realise now that I was transferring some emotion from my personal life, into this place, and behaved like a fud.

Woah, that sounded all California sandal ganja.

    I know what I meant.

As far as I can see the Scottish people are free to decide whether to stay in the UK or leave.

It looks like they’re going to choose to stay.

    Is that OK with you?

Or should we only be free to do what you want?

Maybe they will, maybe they won’t.

But what you clearly don’t understand or wish to acknowledge is that there is a new generation coming up who have now been politically activated by this and they support independence and have nothing to do with the SNP.

If we get a YES vote, the SNP are going to implode anyway because they don’t all agree on every issue and there will be a political realignment in Scottish politics.

Who knows you might even be able to vote for a real Labour party.

Ask yourself aa question – are you sick of the Westminster political machine? Then ask if you think the Scottish MPs have any effect. Then remind yourself that the Tories have tried once to remap constituencies by 60k population, skewing them massively towards SE England.

If No wins and the Tories gain a majority or worse still a UKIP alliance at the GE. We’re screwed and we’ll probably end up out of Europe.

    ——————————————————————————

Out of Europe before Christmas with a No vote? Let me get this right – if we vote Yes we’ll at least be in the Europa? Count me in then pal.

  9. Sipsini,

Murdo been oot the game since Wim win, so not for me, although it might get Kevjungle back into Celtic Park ? I also have no probs with JC if to be him

I have no problems moving John Kennedy into senior team ?

And I do think Ronny needs someone with home knowledge (including the MSM) and exposure ?

I also happened to think Lenny had 1 too many with his team for our 1st team (JM, GP DMcG & SW)

    Hail Hail

  10. Ernie Lynch – im not a Nat. Nor did I say we’d get either a Tory UKIP alliance or Tory majority. The important word is ‘if ‘ I find it quite useful.

Is it true that the Tories want to redraw constituency boundaries into populations of roughly 60k?

Is it true that this will place the majority of constituencies in the SE and other Tory heartlands?

This something Scots voters should be concerned about regardless of the referendum.

Would this reduce the Scottish influence in Westminster even further?

  11. The Celtic Way,

In an ideal world the blog would talk only about its root theme for existence.

    1) Its the close season, and just about ever scenario about our managerial appointment has been discussed in depth.

    2) The outcome of Septembers referendum will directly impact on Celtic. This is inescapable, no matter how much we would like it to be so.

    3) The poppy debate does Celtic no favours and has the potential for embarrassment, it detracts from our achievements on the park, polarises opinion and scares our backers and sponsors which can stifle our ambitions.

    HH.

  12. Eldiegobhoy, just seen your response

Like you, no interest in politics, and with 2 well educated daughters, I believe they are divided, so who do I listen too ?

Now daughter number 1 is more interested in the hoops ( season ticket with me), she wouldn’t mind Collins as coach, he is currently with Scotland Youths, so still heavily involved

I have no idea, but would like it sorted prior to pre- season kicking off.

Anyone any idea if Danny McG will still be involved after his wee health scare ?

    Hail Hail

  13. ElDiegoBhoy:

Apologies mate, I’ve only just read your question, to answer it, tomorrow is the Queens Birthday Holiday and any Queen that would ‘State’ visit Dublin and homage Republican Irishmen is okay with me, but that aside I think I have to be honest and tell you I hate wankers like TSD and I’d love the day when I could boot him in the balls. I hope that answers your question.

BTW: if you and your daughters ever drift down this way, I’m here, and I’ve got beer and cake and prawns and music too. Oh! and whisky.

  14. JimmyQuinnsBits on

I support the appointment of RD. The promise of a change in playing style excites me. However, its tempered by a suspiscion that the current setup puts him firmly in the coaching camp, rather than a manager role.

It looks to me that John Park recruits the players – on PLs approval – and the manager coaches what he is given. JP has been successful on defensive and midfield players, but woeful on strikers.

Am I reading the setup wrongly?

  15. If we are going to debate Independence, can we not do it about that, without resorting to ad hominem attacks on those who have opposing views to our own. This is far too important decision to make without nonsense spouted about calling those who intend to vote no as a “red, white and blue brigade” and such. Scotland is not the North of Ireland, or Ireland for that matter. What might be aspired for there, need not motivate folk here. By the bye, the SNP, while I personally have no regard for them, have come a long long way from the Tartan Tories or William Wolfe’s sound bite.

I don’t know anyone living in Scotland who has not swithered in deciding. Presumably that will continue until September.

  16. eldiegobhoy,

I’ve no problem with John Collins.

I just think with a new young manager, we need an older and wiser head to keep him right but not interfere with his strategy to take us forward.

I’m sure Ronny will know who he needs.HH

If for nothing else that helping support the wishes of your daughters you should vote.

Plus it is the elders of most tribes that than enjoy the most wisdom.

In addition to that you probably have 15 to 20 years left to live.

Get voting , help your lassies get the Democracy that they want.

  18. JimmyQuinnsBits;

You’re good mate; at least to me you are. My beef is how absolute cretins like TSD are allowed to toxic this pace without censor from our host.

You be good to yourself mate. That means, when the wife isn’t lookin’ get yourself a bottle of the best malt, and drink it, you’ve only got one life on earth.

With respect, that doesn’t answer the question.

Therefore I ask again : Will you and the Yes campaigners abide by the democratic decision of the people, regardless ?

Of course. But already there has been talk of a second referendum by no campaigners.

  25. Cowiebhoy/ Lennybhoy.

Jeeso, as said above, I just think Ronny needs an old wise head that knows what he’ll come against…ie ,masonic manipulation, the refereeing and last but not least…smsm.

The first mistake and they will circle like a pack of hyenas.

No people wanting a second referendum are wrong.

Yes people wanting ongoing referendum’s are wrong.

They should all abide by the democratic decision and work to heal the divisions, before they are unbridgeable.
