Ex-ref taunts Neil Lennon with ‘explodes’ remark

1244

I think I live in a different world than some people.  In my world the manager of Celtic has endured an incredibly stressful month.  Yesterday he would have dealt with news from a serious criminal trial after a bomb was sent to him.

Today he is being taunted in a newspaper by a former referee who suggests he “explodes at the side of a park”.  Even for a former SFA official, this is astonishingly poor taste.  The article goes on to betray enormous hostility towards Neil Lennon and, for reasons which appear opportunistic, Peter Lawwell.

Our manager will get through these difficult weeks and will hopefully never have to endure such stresses again.  SFA officials, current or past, cannot meaningfully lay a glove on him.  He can pay their fines and will continue to manage a winning Celtic team.

  1. THE American frontrunners in the race to buy Rangers are prepared to pay £25 million for control of the club – but their preferred option is to put the Ibrox side into liquidation.

The bid from Chicago-based Club 9 Sports, who have been linked to Rangers director Andrew Ellis and by association shamed owner Craig Whyte, is one of three offers which, if successful, may result in the new owners taking the highly unpopular option of winding up the club and reforming it as a new company (Newco).

The only offer on the table which is conditional on Rangers emerging from administration and paying off debts via a Company Voluntary Arrangement (CVA) is the one from the Blue Knights, headed by former Ibrox director Paul Murray.

The conditional American bid is more than double the £10m bid tabled by the Blue Knights and five times as much as Sale Sharks owner Brian Kennedy, whose offer of around £5m was rejected by administrators Duff & Phelps yesterday.

But Club 9 Sports would have to address the £27m debt owed to Ticketus, who would NOT be creditors under the terms of the Blue Knights’ bid.

I have advised a few people – I am not involved with any groups

In effect, the Blue Knights would offer £10m for a creditors pot of around £23m; Club 9 Sports would offer £25m on creditors debts of £50m, but liquidation would then be their preferred option.

Until now little has been known about the substance of the Club 9 Sports bid or the company’s intentions if it was successful in taking ownership from Craig Whyte.

But the company has made it known that liquidating Rangers is in its plans, and it is understood two unidentified consortia – one UK- based, the other in Singapore – are also open to the Newco route rather than trying to do a deal with creditors via a CVA, although they are both slowly falling out of the picture and are unlikely to succeed.

It is believed Club 9 feels that liquidation would remove the risk of currently unknown debts emerging in the future, and would take away the uncertainty of not being able to agree a CVA with creditors.

But taking Rangers into liquidation would be deeply unpopular with fans and would have grave footballing consequences.

A new club has to wait three years before it is eligible to play lucrative Champions or Europa League ties. It would also have to be voted into the Scottish Premier League, with likely financial or points penalties, or else apply to join the Scottish Football League in Division Three, and the registration of all its current players would pass to the SPL rather than being held by Rangers.

The US firm emerged as frontrunner as Mr Kennedy was told by Duff & Phelps that his offer was not good enough.

With current owner Whyte refusing to deal with Paul Murray’s Blue Knights bid, Club 9 is in a strong position.

Mr Ellis was asked today if he is involved with Club 9 and said: “I have advised a few people who have asked me questions regarding the situation at Rangers. But I am not involved with any groups.”

Club 9 Sports, formed in 2009, seeks to revive struggling businesses “through cost-cutting and aggressive sales and marketing”. Its most recent purchase was Quad City Mallards, a minor league professional ice hockey club in Illinois.

A spokesman for Duff & Phelps today declined to comment about any individual bid for Rangers.

  2. At the rangers game please…

The SPL today confirmed that should Celtic FC win the Clydesdale Bank Premier League this weekend, the trophy will be presented to the club at an appropriate post-split home match.

  8. Good afternoon friends and lurking colleagues,

Moving on to this weekend’s games the following facts suggest that we might need to wait just 1 more week before celebrating…..

I’ve been looking at Motherwell’s league record against Rangers since season 2009/10

    Manager – Craig Brown :

    2009/10

    Motherwell 0 Rangers 0

    Rangers 6 Motherwell 1

    Motherwell 1 Rangers 1

    Rangers 3 Motherwell 3

    2010/11

    Rangers 4 Motherwell 1

    Motherwell 1 Rangers 4

    Manager – Stuart McColl

    2010/11

    Rangers 6 Motherwell 0

    Motherwell 0 Rangers 5

    2011/12

    Motherwell 0 Rangers 3

    Rangers 3 Motherwell 0

    Craig’s record – Played 6, no wins, 3 draws, goals for/against 7 – 18

Stuart’s record – Played 4, lost them all, no goals scored, conceded 17!

For comparison, Motherwell’s league record against Celtic during this same period is:

    Craig’s record – Played 6, no wins, 1 draw, goals for/against 3 – 11

    Stuart’s record – Played 5, lost them all, scored 1, conceded 13!

In addition we beat Motherwell 3 – 0 in last season’s Scottish cup final

So in Stuart McCall’s time against Celtic and Rangers his team have played 10 games, lost them all, scoring just the 1 goal and conceding 33!

Motherwell are expected to represent Scotland in next years Champions league qualifiers.

However, all bad things must come to an end. ;-)

    Right, back to work…

  11. Guys,

I know you have all been tortured about this but PLEASE if you havent already done so, or if you are prepared to do so again please make a donation to Niamh Curry’s Appeal. She desperately needs to reach her target to get to the USA for lifesaving treatment ASAP.

The clock is ticking, and her cancer is working on her all the time.

She is only 5 years old.

Put yourself in her parents shoes.

    Thanks

  12. The more and more I see the disgraceful treatment of our manager, the more I feel inclined with us telling the other clubs to stuff their league at the end of this season and go play in the English Conference if we can; at least we’d be in a properly run set up not run by a bunch of vindictive old blazers.

We are the best run club in Scotland and also its most famous beyond those shores by virtue of 1967 yet our club is treated with nothing but contempt. Is it any wonder that we as a club are so desperate to get out of this footballing backwater?

  14. Duff&Duffer are some administrators. They can’t even keep count of who they are paying money to. bye, bye rangers…

DUFF and Phelps have denied claims that they have yet to settle an outstanding £19,000 debt from Rangers to Dundee United.

There has been a spat between the two clubs this week after it emerged the Rangers Fans Fighting Club had opted to settle a £22,000 debt to Dunfermline over unpaid tickets, but declined to also square up United.

Dundee United have since reported Rangers’ administrators Paul Clark and David Whitehouse to the SPL over claims they failed to honour an agreement about ticket money.

“We are very disappointed if this is the case as Dundee United have been paid in full for the tickets for that match,” said a spokesman for the administrators today.

  15. So rent a quote Clark and Nicholas have done their usual, rather than highlight the evident problems Neil Lennon faces in his day to day life never mind his place of work they revert to type and have a go,

One more wee point I meant to make, the last time Celtic introduced legal council into a dispute with the SFA, they bleated that they could not afford to get into a legal war with Celtic.

They could not afford to get into a legal war with Celtic. How far are Celtic prepared to go. If it were me, right to the very edge of the cliff and beyond.

Since the establishment in this great wee country have deemed it open season on NFL, why not ask George Galloway MP to step up to the plate and defend Lenny through his RESPECT Party. George is a Celtic fan and is certainly not afraid to go toe to toe with any corrupt establishment ( Brit or Yank ) and would have total empathy with Lenny. Having the voice and bottle to take them on and raising the awareness through parliament of the shocking abuse Lenny has to suffer. He would also slap Salmond and co into place.

I feel that if enough of us write to him he would be more than willing to get involved.
