Eye’s oversight

596

You could be forgiven for losing track of Scottish football issues of governance, accountability and oversight, there are so many fronts to engage on. On the heels of CQN approaching Private Eye on the subject of Resolution 12 (granting of licences to participate in Uefa competitions), the newspaper today wrote about the recent Offshore Game Report on the SFA’s dealings with oldco Rangers’ tax affairs, the SPL Commission into Rangers, as well as the awarding of Uefa licences in 2011.

This is what functioning oversight looks like. Organisations with a platform to analyse those in power do so. In the Scottish goldfish bowl, we import oversight from London, which makes accountability difficult and, ultimately, makes governance ineffective.

No review of the Nimmo Smith Commission will take place until the Supreme Court has had their say, but any hopes of accountability you have at that point will rest in interest in the matter from London. We simply don’t have the structures in place here.

Absolutely agree, I’ve been asked by sevco fans why I support Celtic , you’re not Irish they say.

There’s no point explaining it to them , they just don’t get it.

  2. Not that I ever doubted it but it’s great to see such universal support on this site. Ye ghuys are brilliant.

    France are do-able

Didn’t believe that after 2nd group game

  5. Well done Ireland. There’ll be some feckin party in Lille tonight. Result even more impressive when you consider the ref’s performance. It would be great to see them beat France and rub Terry Henry’s nose in it, the cheating bassa.

It’s been some week for my oldest bhoy, two temporary jobs building the stages, in Denmark, for AC-DC and for The Boss tonight and securing his honours degree in International teaching. He had to miss the AC-DC gig as his final exam was the next day but sending me updates from the Springsteen concert tonight.

Magic Ireland. My local was Green and White tonight like a Celtic match. Wales seem a popular team among Clydebank Tims. Lots of e/w bets on them.

    I’m sure you’ll be given a dispensation ;-)

  8. Great fighting spirit and no shortage of technique.

That passion and determination will upset the French and a run off the green will do the rest.

  9. Overwhelmed ,what an achievement, blubbering away like a wean without its dummy, great to see a wee team stuff it to those referees who didn’t want to see them progress, Brendan Rodgers would do well to have some of this team scouted and offered contracts before the group stages of the Champions League. Imagine the smallest country in the tournament actually qualify for the last 16 by being runners up in their section

    CONGRATULATIONS ICELAND

PS Well done to Martin Oneill

The Clydebank diaspora are going mental wi the celebrations tonight. Magic! :-)

  14. Fantastic result for the Republic! Yeehah! My neighbours must think I’m mental with all my wild celebrations. What a goal especially so shortly after the sitter we missed. Brilliant! I’ll not sleep tonight. We owe France one after Meadowlark Henry’s performance last time round.

  15. Buffon is no Buffoon. Great to see a reaction like that, he seemed genuinely happy that Ireland had won.

Well done Ireland! Thought Italy were beginning to look the likely winners nearer the end but Martin made the changes which turned the game. Good to see Shay Given still on board!

My neebor who hates fitba but loves Celtic txtd me when her dad’s country scored tonight. Antrim Tims.

  18. Absolutely thrilled for the Republic and Martin tonight, last 4 minutes were just as nerve wracking as watching Celtic, and i am not even Irish, although i wouldn’t be typing this if both sets of families had not come to Glasgow from the Emerald Isle a few generations ago.

France are not great and wont “like it up them” as Corporal Jones used to say.

Go on you Bhoys in green!!

It looks like both sets of fans are havin a party anyway

You are used to success. This is a big thing for a wee country with a huge heart. For a people that a little over a century ago were considered sub-human, I’d say we continue to smack the ubermensch in the baws

Shane Duffy & James McClean, two Republican Derry Bhoys, wouldn’t it be great to see them in the Hoops.

Really, Shane, never heard of him till tonight, Good luck young man.

    James McLean, OH FFS, really?

He’s SHITE PERIOD, can you remember McGeady getting slagged for going down Blind Alleys. McLean, FFS Geezo… he is shite But hey Derry, Republican… he’s still shite.

  21. My one abiding memory of Buffon was the tremendous save he made in the Stadio Dell Alpi after Amoruso had scored the ‘penalty’ to go 3 – 2 up.

When we kicked off after the pen we immediately broke up the left side and from the cross Sutton was denied a sensational equaliser when Buffon made a great save in what must have been the last min.

What an ending that would have been to that game.

  22. Fantastic and DESERVED result tonight.

I’d be checking the refs bank account.

6 yellows missed and 2 pens.

Unbelievable comment made – “Iceland deserve their reward to play England”

    Feck off!

As for the Buff, fair play but he knows his stand-in is shite and no threat to his place.

  23. Not really seen much of James McLean but thought he played well tonight.

Big guy Hendrick looks decent player too.

  24. Martin O’Neill is a fantastic manager.

I wanted him to be our manager again.

Let’s hope Brendan proves as successful as MON

  25. What is the Stars on

If Buffon was actually playing in goal tonight he would have sprinted off his line and by fair means or foul would have prevented robbie Brady from scoring. ..that said it was a nice gesture. Just glad he was on the bench
