FA Prem goes international below Uefa radar

793

The existence of the Premier League International Cup, a tournament for under-21s, which the FA Premier League launched this is a fascinating development.  It’s a toe in the water for the Premier League who are running a multi-nation tournament out-with the auspices of Uefa.  A consequence of excluding the European governing body is that all games must be played in the territory of England and Wales, despite Celtic and seven others of the 16 teams residing outside that region.

Uefa retain exclusive rights to hold tournaments across multiple territories, although this definition accommodates the existence of the Welsh FA and Welsh teams participation in competitions run by the English FA.

The Premier League has a broken business model which they have been unable to resolve for a decade of more, as they hae studiously avoided growth in their key TV revenue stream stalling.  When it does, innovative solutions will be required.

As far as Celtic are concerned, I’m delighted we’re there.  In the absence of NextGen this will be a valuable addition to the youth players’ development this season.

Foundation News:

I’m up for the Zip Slide from the top of the Jock Stein Stand to pitch level in front of the Lisbon Lions’.  Never done anything as ridiculous in my life but it’s a one-off opportunity for a fee of £30 plus a commitment to raise £125 for the Foundation.

Pile in here, if you’re brave enough for the Celtic Park pitch…………

Not had more than a glance at the annual report yet. Statements dated 12 September? Hmmm.

You know your getting old when you enter your date of birth on a web site and it takes ages to scroll down to the year you where born .

  2. My dwarf girlfriend went to work this morning, upset with me because I’ve been taking the piss out of her size.

So, l’m going to make it up to her tonight – I’ve got a good bottle of wine in and bought her the latest DVD box-set of her favourite program.

When she gets in from work I’m going to order her favourite takeaway for her tea, then go upstairs & run her a nice, hot sink..

It was brill as usual, it was also scorching.

  4. Bobby Murdoch, not only the prices, but trying to get served at the bar was murder! I ended up in the Crystal Bells watching the second half of the Scotland game. I would rather be with the Cqners, but with my voice being so poor at the moment I felt frustrated trying to communicate as the volume in McChuills was turned to 11. The last hootenanny at West brewery / Phoneix(sp) was great for me as I could at least chat. Sorry for the rant!

  5. PL is a disgrace to Celtic. The manifestation of everything that is the antithesis of what we stand for. His unashamed greed and obsession with gaining any measure of power within the entirely discredited and completely corrupt Scottish football establishment makes me sick to the stomach.

He is nothing but a self-serving opportunist whose greatest concern is a diminution in expectation to achieve his salivating aim of enhanced reward when that poison that contaminates every inch of our society appears in it whatever hideous form their latest version adopts

His breathless anticipation for their return is equalled only by DD’s explicitly stated near agonising plea for their speedy “return”.

Let’s remove these imposters and seize what belongs to us.

Bobby Murdoch, sorry for my late reply re Kevin Rowland, running the darling cherubs all over the place tonight.

One of my pals told me in the mid-eighties about the front cover of Dexy’s first LP. I had never really listened to the lyrics of their first single, Dance Stance, later changed to Burn it down. However, when I did, Kevin was railing against the tihck Irish stereotype image portrayed in Britain. The chorus mentions great Irish poets & writers.

The song National Pride, formely Knowledge of Beauty, one of the lines is my national pride is my personal pride where I came from.

Another track is valled they all sounded the same. In one verse he says how do you feel about Ireland, that place just across the sea.

In Dexy’s last release, One day I’ll soar, one of the tracks is called Nowhere is Home to me. One line ‘you can take your Irish stereotype and shove it up your a**e’ .

    He doesn’t mess about.

Kevin is a flawed character but his heart is in the right place.

Frantic & Delaney’s, glad you both had a good time on Sarturday with a few stories from the bus.

Was it the Buffalo club in Aberdeen wee Duffy went to?

Some of us went to the less than glamourous Daisy’s bar with the dancers up stairs.

Frantic. I’m with you. I prefer sitting in bars, when I get oot the house, where there’s no loud background music and have a good chat without having to lipread or smile when someone is talking to you.

Aye, you older ones led me astray into Daisys. Will not mention where I was led to, prior to the Ajax game in Amsterdam in ’82.

  14. Dallas, correct. It’s was the Buffs in Aberdeen. They laid on rolls n sausage & tea! Tea, didn’t they know Duffy had never tasted tea in his life! They allowed us in at 10:30, whilst you and your pervy pals queue outside Daisy’s to watch the dancing “ladies”.

all this talk about the fun you had in the Gallowgate hootenanny

I would rather pay £4 for a pint of Fürstenberg in McChuills than buy two watery pints of Carling,in some characterless Witherspoons.

    False economy.

Also thought that the oul fella on the cdj’s played some quality music, even dropped a few songs by the Wolfies – eclectic mix.

Furthermore, the next selector – turntable placed on the bar, hooked up to the mixer, playing some classic vinyl – pure class!

    I thought it was brilliant.
