Failure elsewhere cannot disguise abject Celtic challenge

1009

As the darkest clouds descend over Ibrox with news that medals in their trophy room have been poinded by sheriff officers, sentiment in our half of the city is no brighter.  Celtic’s best chance to win the league this season lies not in outpointing everyone else, or seeing their principle rivals lose 10 points, it is in the complete obliteration of Rangers, allowing us to take our chances with Motherwell, who can open up a six point gap between second and third against Celtic on Sunday.

Whatever the following weeks bring for Rangers, if Celtic winning the league is a consequence, we cannot allow the title to disguise the abject failure to be competitive so far this season.

Good to see paul67 being more realistic and pragmatic about the reality our situation.

Normally Paul is ever the the optimist and tries to rally the troops but I think now he is openly communicating what I’m sure he has been thinking for quite some time.

  2. After seeing “naisy’s” injury incident on ssn yesterday, i was pleased to see the concern showed shown by gollum

and the haste in which he brought the game to a halt so medical attention could be administered.

Obviously a change in tact from the MIB’s with their protection of the “footballers” from the cloggers, so look forward to the same protection from MIB’s on Sunday for our players.

If you really do hail from Coatbridge, you must have went to St Ambrose…….

    Or maybe even Rosehall……

You have very odd views for a native of the iron burgh.

  4. I’d play a few under 19 players on Thursday, those young lads will run all day for ye Neil, they don’t shirk tackles and they have more than enough skill, they’d put some of our present shysters to shame.

I found myself on a ferry on Saturday afternoon coming back from France. I had the good sense to wander into the bar to be treated by a marvellous Arsenal display as they treated Chelsea to a miserable afternoon. Fair buoyed my day – until.

Until that is I returned to the bar in the hope that they might be showing Jeff Stelling and mates on Sky updating me with the news of a hoped for loss of points for Rangers and a sound win for us.

Rangers of course were as usual damnably consistent and we of course the polar opposite as the camera went over to a despondent Gerry Mc Laughlin whose face and the vast array of empty seats behind him told the story of a team and a fan base who no longer believe in themselves.

Aye I stood and hoped as the minutes ticked by and for the first time I almost felt no pain at the inevitable. The chickens of poor management at all levels and misguided purchases of average players have come home to roost big time. The flickers of good performances become rarer and no-one apparently has a clue how to fix it.

After regret at my decision not to make the effort to go to Rennes and my hopes after the 2nd half on Wednesday cold reality settled in again.

Celtic are giving me little joy at the moment whilst imposters are wearing the shirts of my heroes. These are not Lions led by donkeys. They are together a collection of clueless asses who at all levels are taking an enormous amount of money out of our pockets and giving dross in return.

Perhaps they need a healthy dose of fear to get them moving. If more begin to feel that loss of love and attraction that I am feeling then the empty stands may well shine a light on the effect of their lack of actions. Then it won’t be thunder we can hear but the final expelling of the hot air regularly expounded at every opportunity by Directors, Management team and players alike. Hope it keeps them warm. Me I’m feeling distinctly chilly and unforgiving.

By the way what times kick off on Saturday?

Yes, I probably took that one too far. Team on a good run would be more apt.

I was merely trying to make the point that with some good organisation, good coaching and team spirit you can make become very decent. Add some talent and you can become winners.

These are basic traits that we are sadly lacking, frustratingly I think we have some of the talent part but none of the rest.

This is only due to poor coaching, poor man management and poor organisation.

Im not going to get the chance to reply properly as im now madagascar bound.

If we are to now accept that we cant even hold on to celtic supporting youngsters who have come through the system then we are in a worst state than i thought. I appreciate your thoughts on the matter and taking the time to reply like you did.

I’ll try get the laptop out & get a proper conversation about it at some point in this 2 day journey if your online.

I agree and well said (a month or so late) I have had the same view for a few weeks

i love Neil and he should be treated with the up most dignity AND the option to come back another day

But it is not working and we are in trouble

Mark Hughes for me – happy to listen to any other option who is a) reasonably proven b) available c) has a strong character

Abject failure – Welcome to reality.

This has been on the cards since the second half of 2007/08.

WGS did a job in getting Black Sunday out of our system but he had a shelf life like everyone else.

Regarding the bigger point why are we where we are?

DD is only interested in the balance sheet.

PL is only interested in his bonus and playing CM with real people.

NL and his staff are totally out of there depth.

We have a captain in name only, no-one in the squad can do the job.

The squad is waiting on Jan to find out gets flogged.

It is now a case of everyone for themselves, they play as if they have been relagated.

SB is an issue – I fear games are getting played – he is now our Jonah.

BK is an issue – I fear games are getting played in his head – he is now a liability.

Ki is now an issue – I fear he has given up the ghost – he knows he is now first up for sale in Jan.

All of this just can’t go on.

NL is not to blame, he has been used by the board.

SB / BK are not to blame, they are just wee boys in a man’s world.

Ki is not to blame, he is just trying to protect his future career.

DD is to blame – he is the Irish Raj, an absent landlord of the worst kind.

PL is to blame – he is a bean counter out of his depth and interested only in his pay packet.

He is the main reason why we are playing so badly.

He has wrecked morale in the dressing room with his penny pinching and his “price is right” sales policy. Not for him the future, talent management, building a squad, a club an ethos. No all that matters is the sell on value, the quick buck and the rush towards no debt.

    What can we do?

Chase DD out of town – he is chancer who has been found out – no EPL means no money.

Punt PL ASAP – he has bled the club dry so that he can afford heated driveway

Get NL some help – he needs a break while his stooges need a rocket.

    The solution is simple.

We need an experienced manager with good coaching support.

We need a captain to lead on the field.

The squad has more than enough talent.

All it needs is coaching, conditioning and leadership.

Look at our “sister” club at St. Mary’s.

Top of the CH with two CP refugees in defence.

The bricks are there, all we need is a competent architect.

Its probably the 5 or 6th time in the last 12 months I’ve voiced concerns about our management, so these are not new worries for me.

What is new is that the results are now totally indefensible and the board has the justification they need without upsetting the head in the sand ‘in lennon we trust’ brigade.

Act now when the iron is hot or risk a couple of wins that would merely delay the inevitable

  15. PL will not appoint a strong manager,Hughes McCarthy etc, because he wants to control him,as hes done with the last 3.

  16. Lurgan 53,

    I didn’t know that. Inspirational.

    Something controversial though:

Everytime I hear someone from our part of the county they will say things like ‘Hurling, could you imagine a Cross man with a hurl?’

That’s victim hood and you will never ever win a game if you go in with such an attitude.

When I boxed as a youth, there was no-one from South Armagh I was ever worried about, they worried about me.

I know that sounds arrogant but there is no-one more self-effacing than me. I just hate that defeatist attitude. I hear it when people from our part of the world play against teams from Belfast.

Absolutely detest the ‘woe is me brigade’

    That feels better.

  17. GyEmerald,

Yes, I was rather surprised at how quickly Collum acted in bringing the game to a halt. I thought MIBs were only supposed to stop a match, if the player had a head injury.

As much as I would like to see the inclusion of the entire youth team squad for the match on Thursday night, the unfortunate thing is that a list of donkeys was submitted to UEFA prior to the start of the competition and we have to make our selection from that list

  22. Willie Collum stopped the play for wee Naisie almost as quickly as he drew out his red card for Fallon as Aberdeen were pressing for the equaliser.

But his reactions were not as quick as they were when giving Rangers the penalty at Celtic Park when he was looking the other way and Broadfoot fell like he had been hit with a sniper’s bullet.

Whoever the new guy is he MUST have experience and a strong backroom team.

We should scour european teams for manager who gets decent teams consistently performing above expectations.

It is not necessary to be well known or a big name.

Davy Moyes or MON would do !
