Failure elsewhere cannot disguise abject Celtic challenge

1009

As the darkest clouds descend over Ibrox with news that medals in their trophy room have been poinded by sheriff officers, sentiment in our half of the city is no brighter.  Celtic’s best chance to win the league this season lies not in outpointing everyone else, or seeing their principle rivals lose 10 points, it is in the complete obliteration of Rangers, allowing us to take our chances with Motherwell, who can open up a six point gap between second and third against Celtic on Sunday.

Whatever the following weeks bring for Rangers, if Celtic winning the league is a consequence, we cannot allow the title to disguise the abject failure to be competitive so far this season.

If we win 2 trophies this year excluding the league, is it enough to save lennys job?

  2. The Croybhoy,

You are wrapping yourself up in cliches. On a day to day basis we see the old best supporters in the world moniker, or your a hun brought forth to anyone that does not toe the party line. We even get accusations of posters being hun journos or under the employ of jack irvine. This may be possible but surely the most lilely scenario is that they are just posters with a different opinion. I wouldn’t describe myself as pathetic or a hun but I begin to wonder if Celtic supporters like you want success for Celtic?

Neil Lennon was booed as a player at the Boavista home leg semi final. I wouldn’t really describe it as a boo more of a mass groan because there was a better forward pass available. The Celtic support saw that something better could be achieved and showed their displeasure.

We do have a manager but I think we could do better. It would be great if Neil could turn this around.

Neil did suffer last season but how long do you wait for someone to get it right.

Tell you something. The people in charge should hang their heads in shame for creating this outrageous situation.

No bother, he met up with some guys from Craigneuk on Saturday.

I shudder to think of the reaction on here to a similiar set of results for Gordon Strachan, then again I support every Celtic manager until the end.

  5. jude2005 is Neil Lennon \o/ on

I spoke to Keevins this morning re the G B debacle on Saturday. He thinks the G B should approach the CSA and then send details of everything that went on to Peter Lawwell. Maybe Paul could start the ball rollin?

I choose to believe that Neil is to blame for our current situation and Alan and Johan have blame to share.

But I also believe that the only solution is to support Neil, his coaches and ALL the players (wee dig at Mark Wilson was in jest).

I was totally against Neil getting the job in the first place, but I was impressed by his first full season and expected him to build on that this season. Given the amount of r garbage that he has had to endure in the past few months, peaking at the shocking and totally outrages not proven verdict over in Birmingham, Alabama.

If we do not support him through this, as far as I’m concerned, the bigots have won.

The Celtic board and the support need to find a solution that casts blame aside, wipes the slate and refinds the potential we all know this team has.

I have no idea what’s going on at Celtic Park at the moment and I could speculate until the cows come home, but we need a fix and quick.

Some serious pride swallowing required all round perhaps and everyone gets to air their grievances.

And the support need to start doing what it says on the tin: Supporting!!!

    All the best

    Zybzsek.

Look at the comments in the second half of area Hans last season. I believe he was treated better than Lenny. Mind you the hunterlopers didn’t really have it in for strachan.

  9. The Honest Mistake (Sickened), Disagree with that statement and I am sure Zybzsek would as well.

Strachan was called many a thing on here. No one is saying anything remotely close to what Gordon Strachan got.

At games you should always support your team and manager so we can agree there.

However on a fans forum (which I am sure Neil or the team don’t read or care about) we are merely discussing the best way forward for our team on which myself and others are simply stating our opinion that the managment has to change.

I don’t believe blind faith and loyalty is productive and if Neil was called Tony, John, Lou or Gordon he would already be gone.

  11. The Honest Mistake @ 22:40

Yep. Some still can’t see how they are being manipulated by the meeja. Hunterlopers or not, comments such as “Lennon outing the players”, “slagging the players”, “Lennon this, Lennon that”. Sickening. They’re easy to spot and very different from the more constructive criticisms which can be found.

  12. Auldheid,

I love reading your posts and have the greatest respect for you…..

but I’m afraid Mark Wilson’s commitment to our club off the field means little when he does nothing on it. He was captain in name only on Saturday. By that, i mean he merely donned the armband. He contributed nothing. No drive, no passion and certainly no ability.

He may indeed drive all over Scotland for the cause but this is the SPL not Formula 1.

I’m afraid it’s playing desperately limited guys like him that are the reason that we are where we are.

    Sorry, mate!

Been out with the grand weans, had a magic time, halloween is wasted on us oldies.

Had a beer or two tonight with a ex footballer, lives in the village, Andres Terron, played for Granada in the 70’s, well over 6 feet, big bloke he was a striker, scored goals for fun for a year or two when they were in the 1st div, and sad to say the drink got the better of him, tonight I nearly ran over him when he was directing the traffic in the village, he was sitting at a junction waving the ocassional car on it’s way, a gem of a bloke, his traffic control was not the best :>))

He calls me Celtic Glasgow, and it’s a honour to be known as that in the village, spreading the word wherever we go.

Bit sad though, two more sleeps and the kids have to go home :<((

  15. Would be a good opportunity to go and get Ole Gunnar Solskjær as manager. He has just led Molde to their first Norwegian title in 100 years. Previous to that he coached Man Utd reserves for 3 seasons. Experience, a winning mentality as player & manager, known globally in Football and would fit the board criteria of young and working with a small budget. Maybe throw in Brian McClair as his assistant

  16. Players’ performance report – Season to date

Below is a full summary, player by player, of how results have gone when each player has played this season (domestic fixtures only). The appearances include any game where the player spent time on the pitch, whether they played the full 90 minutes or came on with a minute to go. The list is sorted in descending % order (i.e. % of available points won) irrespective of how many games were played by each player (hence Paul George being near the top… because we won in his only game).

For the record, the team’s collective record is:

    P14 W9 D2 L3 Pts29 = 69.0%

    Players:

    Zaluska, Lukasz… Apps 3 Pts 9 = 100.0%

    Izaguirre, Emilio… Apps 2 Pts 6 = 100.0%

    George, Paul… Apps 1 Pts 3 = 100.0%

    Wilson, Kelvin… Apps 7 Pts 18 = 85.7%

    Ledley, Joe… Apps 12 Pts 29 = 80.6%

    Kayal, Beram… Apps 11 Pts 26 = 78.8%

    Cha, Du-Ri… Apps 3 Pts 7 = 77.8%

    Loovens, Glenn… Apps 4 Pts 9 = 75.0%

    Hooper, Gary… Apps 13 Pts 29 = 74.4%

    Majstorovic, Daniel… Apps 10 Pts 22 = 73.3%

    Forrest, James… Apps 14 Pts 29 = 69.0%

    Stokes, Anthony… Apps 14 Pts 29 = 69.0%

    Ki, Sung-Yeung… Apps 13 Pts 26 = 66.7%

    Matthews, Adam… Apps 10 Pts 20 = 66.7%

    Commons, Kris… Apps 6 Pts 12 = 66.7%

    Samaras, Georgios… Apps 5 Pts 10 = 66.7%

    Maloney, Shaun… Apps 3 Pts 6 = 66.7%

    Rogne, Thomas… Apps 2 Pts 4 = 66.7%

    McCourt, Paddy… Apps 7 Pts 13 = 61.9%

    Forster, Fraser… Apps 11 Pts 20 = 60.6%

    Mulgrew, Charlie… Apps 11 Pts 20 = 60.6%

    Wanyama, Victor… Apps 8 Pts 14 = 58.3%

    Bangura, Mohamed… Apps 6 Pts 10 = 55.6%

    El Kaddouri, Badr… Apps 6 Pts 10 = 55.6%

    Brown, Scott… Apps 4 Pts 6 = 50.0%

    Wilson, Mark… Apps 7 Pts 10 = 47.6%

So based on that lot one could perhaps argue that our most successful team might be…

    Zaluska

    Cha

    Wilson, K

    Majstorovic

    Loovens

    Izaguirre

    Kayal

    Ledley

    Forrest

    Hooper

    Stokes

I guess it would be a fairly fluid formation. There would be 5 at the back when defending and 3 when in possession, with Cha and Izzie pushing up the wings. Kayal & Ledley would occupy the central midfield with Jamie Forrest in a roving role just off the front two.

Unfortunately it’s not quite as simple as that!

  18. CultsBhoy hates being 2nd on

Mark Wilson is no world beater – but when he’s fit and rarin’ to go he is the standard required for Celtic, the kind of player who does the steady eddy stuff that allows better players to do the special stuff..unfortunately we don’t have any ‘better’ players..everyone is broadly M Wilson standard …or worse.

  19. my take is that blind faith is it occurs when someone can’t see or refuses to see all the facts and faithfully follows (in this case Lennon) a cause or individual no matter how much information is available that suggests your faith is misplaced

I think we are all hoping for the demise of The Darnel.

BRHT’s post is the way forward to make this happen iMHO.

Fans pressurising boards will have an impotent effect, because the boards will vote to save their own clubs.

The legal route is the way to go.

The SFA are aware that Celtic can defeat them in a court with the correct legal representation. Uefa are about to learn the same lesson with Sion.

The law courts can sort this.

Lets hope this is what Celtic’s board really want.

If the Darnel went out of Business next week ,we would have a 60,000 sell out the very next home game.

  21. The Honest Mistake (Sickened)

I think that owen is right when says that you should support every Celtic manager until the end but don’t think that those who say that want new manager are Huns, like many here call them posters.

I don’t agree that Strachan was treated better than Neil Lennon. I remember how some posters were calling Strachan after bad results or good results but bad play.

I know about Celtic what I learned from here.

I’m just wondering how the blog would look like if it was Gordon Strachan today?

I don’t carry that luggage with what is between Rangers and Celtic and vice versa. These discussions about poppies, songs, referees and media I still find strange. I watch 50 percent of Celtic games and don’t see progress, don’t see signs of good play.

I try to find reasons why some call Huns those who see the need of change? Whatever happens, whatever results Neil Lennon must stay. Just curious.

  22. VargasShampoo,

I posted the same a few pages back. He would be on my list but Lawell and co will be down in Engerlund asking Mick McCarthy, Roy Keane and Brendan Rodgers to come up.

What happens if we drop points to Motherwell or ICT? How long do we back Neil. Im dying a death here watching this season unfold. Can it get nay worse?
