Fastest, fittest, Celtic, what Ashley has left

669

A little over two months ago Celtic lost at Tannadice and dropped two points at home to Ross County.  After our disastrous August, and home defeat to Hamilton in October, this December blow put Celtic on the canvas one more time.  I was getting calls from Norway “Are you still backing Ronny?” The transformation since has been enormous.

For much of the first half yesterday Celtic were disjointed, not untypical of a team returning from a European disappointment, but despite this, the support knew – actually knew – not to be too concerned.  Things would come together, and even if they didn’t yesterday, they would next time out, and for the rest of the season.

We have purpose and direction.  The first goal arrived courtesy of Aberdeen’s adherence to the oft-discredited man-for-man marking system, but thereafter, the goals, in fact, pretty much all attacks, came courtesy of the fastest, fittest, Celtic team you have ever seen.

Who do you want standing behind an opponent? One of the wealthiest people in the land, or a “glib and shameless liar”? I’d rather the latter, thank you.

As well as being a tax convict, Dave King sat on the Rangers board for a decade as it spiraled towards liquidation. He sat on the board which failed to make provisions for the HMRC tax case – and it was this specific failure, not the tax case, which led to the club being sold to a liquidation specialist for £1.

He campaigned relentlessly against newco, oft repeating his vision of ‘competing with Celtic’, while many of us considered the club should prioritise paying its bills and living within its means.

It seems certain that at some point between now and Friday he will be in de facto control, although his eligibility as a director appears doomed, should rules be applied.

Some will celebrate whenever Mike Ashley’s men depart the scene, but this is in keeping with their many earlier celebrations. Here’s a prediction for you: go back and read what the LibDems said after their people got into cabinet. ‘Once we saw what was under the bonnet, it became clear we couldn’t do what we wanted to do’. I reckon you’re going to hear a version of that in the months to come. Even today, Dave King has no idea what Mike Ashley has left him. All we really know is that the representatives of one very wealthy man are about to leave the scene.

Thanks to everyone who has bought a ticket to the CQN11 St Patrick’s Dinner at the Kerrydale Suite on Friday 13th March. If you would like details, let me know, celticquicknews@gmail.com

  1. Regardless of the SFA decision on the GSL (c. SA judge), is there a way to get up a petition on change.org to remove Ogilivie, Reagan and Doncaster as “not fit for purpose”? If sufficient numbers of Scottish football fans signify that their positions are untenable, surely to goodness they would have to go?

Anyone know how to start this off?

    Re the Roman Catholic topic.

I always thought the Roman part was to differentiate from the Orthodox rites of the Greek and Russian Churches.

I think it only became a pejorative term due to the rantings of Paisley, who made every word that came out of his mouth sound offensive.

Perhaps my Ulster neighbours can confirm or not.

We all know they are corrupt mate , every decision they have made in this debacle has been made to favour the Old Club and after it was formed in 2012 , the New Club .

Not once have they done what is best for Scottish football.

“Good article about the speech by Michael Sheen on the NHS.

Stupendous speech, first time I’ve seen it – thanks.

Ironic really but the fact that no major politician is capable of making that kind of speech, nor as MS says – state what they mean without hidden agendas is the reason politics doesn’t interest me.

Still at least I still believe.

Interesting article on Mike Ashley’s future at Ibrox….

Of course Dave King has to be the best option for Rangers from our perspective, if the extant remains revert back to quintessential leadership it ensures we can continue to move forward unabated.

However the question has to be asked why Mike Ashley pulled his punches, he gave back the naming rights to Ibrox when surly SPORTS DIRECT ARENA could be lighting up the Glasgow night sky in Red White & Blue Neon.

Also he had a chance to obtain security over Ibrox Park, he choose Murray Park and the Car park.

Now these decisions may have been conciliatory to appease the bears as spun, however my guess is the Club he loaned the money to was not in a position to give any rights or security over Ibrox.

Sounds like some other entity has a sound claim on Ibrox.

No telling what remnants are left for Dave King and the true Rangers men.

They have their History, the Football Team and Coaching staff… And a compostarium of liabilities (and I’m not just talking about the gardener)

As a wiser man than I once said, rip it up and start again.

Not just them , obviously – there will be staff as well but the children are responsible for the welfare of their ‘charge’ for the duration of the pilgrimage – it’s a lot of work for young people to commit to and I’m proud of him and his classmates .

OB act genesis was given life in various meetings between Hun groups and Strathclyde Police, the argument that the evening up process was required was taken on board by Strathclyde Police, the so called shame game gave SMSM a licence for extraordinary hyperbole and a populist policy on the back of nonsense tabloid headlines

    ………………………….

I don’t know about meetings between “Hun groups” & cops but I do know that at the JAG meetings following the so called shame game the OB Bill was wheeled out as a TV chef does in a “here’s one we prepared earlier” manner.

To Celtic’s shame they attended JAG, and showed no dissent to the Bill when it was discussed and only toke objection with their submission to the Justice Committee some months later, when the dogs in the street knew that this Bill was aimed at one team only.

I have never understood how Celtic bought into FoCUS which was their idea or the OB Bill which was obviously something that was going to be used for “evening up”.

Cup Final tickets arrived this morning, hopefully first of many trophies under Ronny.

When NL left I didn’t know who I wanted as the new Celtic manager, I remember reading a few people saying that Celtic should think outside the box. Well Ronny was an outside the box signing and I was excited by it, although a little apprehensive.

His first couple of months weren’t great by any stretch and I couldn’t see much if any progress, but this was a huge task for him to get to grips with. I’m glad we stuck by him and he wins the treble in his first year. Every year is going to be a challenge with the transfers in and out. VVD & JD might be away this summer, hopefully he’s scouting their replacements. This will be his challenge every year with the doubters lining up to take a pop.

On the Wee Jay abuse, I read was what written on Twitter, either a very drunk daft boy who hopefully regrets it when he sobered up or a sick mind….

I can’t add much to my post of yesterday. Others have provided some background, but my dislike of the term is rooted in how the phrase was used by some here in the north, mostly stemming from the guy you mentioned.

It’s interesting though that the terms is also used in Scotland.

I firmly believe that there are still ‘conviction’ politicians out there, doing their best to serve and to help their constituents.

One of them posted on here, regularly, until his tragically early death.

Part of the problem,IMO,is that at Westmnster/Hollyrood/Brussels level, they are in hock to the party whip. Neutered and shackled, frequently to policies and soundbites in which they have little confidence and less, there’s that word again, conviction.

The alternative is to join the ranks of ‘the Mavericks’ like Galloway,Skinner,Canavan. Political oblivion in other words.

The UK needs politicians with the balls displayed by Michael Sheen on The NHS. And on railways, living wage, utilities,so many things.

Yet with a looming election,I hardly know anyone prepared to walk into a poll booth without a clothes peg on their nose.

It was amazing the physical resemblance of the actors – not just MLK, but people like his wife and Andrew Young.

It also intrigued me that 4 of the main protagonists were played by English actors – MLK, his wife, LBJ and George Wallace.

  23. Just had an email exchange with the Celtic Ticket Office. Anyone else experience similar?

“Thank you for informing me that there are no tickets left for the Dundee Utd game on Sunday 08/03/15. None of which follows is directed at you personally – please pass on to whomever you feel appropriate.

I have to say that I am very disappointed with the response of the Ticket Office to my request, which was made last Saturday, 01 March. The initial reply indicated that there were tickets available (see email below at 0939 on Saturday, but that I should check the website again on Monday and again today. I did check the website constantly, but no information was available and I sent another email yesterday (Monday) to enquire on the situation – also below. So, in summary, there were tickets available as of Saturday and I as a season ticket holder wanted to buy 2 from Celtic – and now I am informed on Tuesday that none are available. This is very poor customer service in my opinion and does little to meet the needs of faithful supporters, indeed I have had 2 season tickets since 1997 as well as being a shareholder. It seems quite bizarre that in the year 2015 with all the technology now available (computerised sales etc), and knowing that tickets were available 3 days ago, the said tickets could not be sold there and then. I suggest that this needs to be looked at as a matter of urgency.

Incidentally, on receipt of your email, I phoned Dundee Utd immediately and got 2 tickets direct from them. This is not unusual, as I have always had excellent service from them during the last 10 years I have been living in Dundee. Food for thought perhaps?”
