Fastest, fittest, Celtic, what Ashley has left

669

A little over two months ago Celtic lost at Tannadice and dropped two points at home to Ross County.  After our disastrous August, and home defeat to Hamilton in October, this December blow put Celtic on the canvas one more time.  I was getting calls from Norway “Are you still backing Ronny?” The transformation since has been enormous.

For much of the first half yesterday Celtic were disjointed, not untypical of a team returning from a European disappointment, but despite this, the support knew – actually knew – not to be too concerned.  Things would come together, and even if they didn’t yesterday, they would next time out, and for the rest of the season.

We have purpose and direction.  The first goal arrived courtesy of Aberdeen’s adherence to the oft-discredited man-for-man marking system, but thereafter, the goals, in fact, pretty much all attacks, came courtesy of the fastest, fittest, Celtic team you have ever seen.

Who do you want standing behind an opponent? One of the wealthiest people in the land, or a “glib and shameless liar”? I’d rather the latter, thank you.

As well as being a tax convict, Dave King sat on the Rangers board for a decade as it spiraled towards liquidation. He sat on the board which failed to make provisions for the HMRC tax case – and it was this specific failure, not the tax case, which led to the club being sold to a liquidation specialist for £1.

He campaigned relentlessly against newco, oft repeating his vision of ‘competing with Celtic’, while many of us considered the club should prioritise paying its bills and living within its means.

It seems certain that at some point between now and Friday he will be in de facto control, although his eligibility as a director appears doomed, should rules be applied.

Some will celebrate whenever Mike Ashley’s men depart the scene, but this is in keeping with their many earlier celebrations. Here’s a prediction for you: go back and read what the LibDems said after their people got into cabinet. ‘Once we saw what was under the bonnet, it became clear we couldn’t do what we wanted to do’. I reckon you’re going to hear a version of that in the months to come. Even today, Dave King has no idea what Mike Ashley has left him. All we really know is that the representatives of one very wealthy man are about to leave the scene.

Thanks to everyone who has bought a ticket to the CQN11 St Patrick’s Dinner at the Kerrydale Suite on Friday 13th March. If you would like details, let me know, celticquicknews@gmail.com

Well I can assure you that you are totally mistaken

reading back on the Catholic v Roman Catholic debate.

In my experience very few Catholic people use the ‘Roman’ term and I would agree that any one who call Catholic people ‘Roman Catholics’ invariably either come from the North of Ireland or sympathise with the Unionist cause, and are not Catholics themselves.

However it is not as one sided as that.

I recall Squire jnr coming in one night after a game howling with laughter. His troops had been discussing whatever they do, which on that particular occasion included their commitment to their faith. One of his less theologically-gifted associates had advised the company that, due to him no longer being an attender at Sunday Mass:

“Ah wid say ah’m still a Catholic but ahm no a ROMAN Catholic”.

I think there are some on here banking on you “being over” before the end of the season…..but it ain’t for a football match.

burnley78-i disagree with you on equating an element of scepticism and doubt of a new manager from Norway,a league poorer than our own,to a lack of support for the Club.HH

  6. IM In a Real Hands up mood.. i Ripped Ronny Deila to bits…i was WRONG…i love what he is doing….I dont think we will lose a game till the season ends, and if we do, i still Love the guy…#RonnyConvert…RC…

Are you sure the 2 centre bs is are not going to be with us next season ?

I know it is a possibility but no certainty. Our guy seems to have a good reputation for improving players so maybe Jason D might get another season from Man C ? Maybe VV D might just not get the offer he wants.

More in hope than expectation re the above but we are a more attractive place for clubs to loan to now than a year ago I reckon.

  11. Squire Danaher…I use and have used Roman Catholic when I think it approp…otherwise i use Catholic…

  12. Wits. Did you hear about the Cork man with an inferiority complex. He thought he was the same as everyone else.

  13. Clashcitybhoy on

Re our centre backs next season.

I know we are only 2/3 of the way through this season, but maybe the absence of European football will let the management team do a bit of planning for next year.

I am pretty sure that next season we need at least one, possibly two centre backs, a striker and a back up keeper.

I don’t see Guidetti staying or VVD, and I think they will exit alongside Tonev, Wakaso, Stokes, and hopefully Boerrighter, Pukki and Balde.

The only one we will get decent money for is VVD, but the wages saved should Imho be spent on guys who are ready to step into first team rather than projects, and I would go for the best CH and best striker we can afford, and supplement squad with Fisher, O’Connell, Henderson etc.

On Denayer, I think he will stay another year – it may well be CL dependent, and we may go through qualifiers without him, but , I don’t think he is ready for EPL, and his best bet for progress is another year with us ….IMHO

  14. Almore, Having a few med. probs at the moment. Only for that I’d have gone to Belfast. Won’t be at CQN11 but hopefully meet at CQN corner at some future date.

    Ronny Deila?

Doubts expressed especially – as somebody said earlier – in the wake of Maribor elimination and poor game management displayed that night .

I feared the worst as the early part of season unfolded. However the fact that he was making overweight complacent professionals undertake two training sessions a day in an effort to improve us as a club gave me a glimmer of hope.

Who knows what battles he had to win within the dressing room as the previous manager’s pets – we all know who – in all likelihood mumped and moaned about “Lenny never made us do that”.

A corner has been turned, and the two DU lads have been a revelation coming in, them and Johansen all being Deila men, and a passer and mover like Biton finally getting a run

    in MF

When every one fit, no room for Mulgrew, Stokes or Forrest – taxi to Bolton for all three.

    Go on Ronny son

  16. Just looking back and someone was mentioning that their big Arab pal was dreading playing us in the next three games.

I was trawling on FB last night and was reading comments regarding DU getting beat by PT on Saturday by one of my Arab friends.Arab supporters are not backing their team at the moment.

They were booing and shouting at Cifti and he turned round and told them to f**k off home.

    Also booing big Sean Dillon.

  27. Bada bing

    Yes.

I agree our man PL broke the mould with his bold appointment of the moneyball guy which paul spoke of back in July.

Many did not have the faith in the plan. Largely due to ignorance of his history and credibility and I agree with you he was from a perceived lesser league. Many were preferring the Roy Keane story and abusing a penny pinching board.

Many were more than happy to endorse the pathetic views of sutton, Hartson, Dalziel guidi and the other assorted clowns rather than SUPPORT the team and the project for a reasonable time to give it a chance.

Confidence is a huge thing in football. Confidence in each other and in our coach. Media agendas to undermine this are all to easy to orchestrate as we saw with Dr Jo and similar attempts with Wim and Tony Mowbray. Despite our compliant ‘faithful?’ Ronny has proved to be made of sterner stuff.
