Fastest, fittest, Celtic, what Ashley has left

669

A little over two months ago Celtic lost at Tannadice and dropped two points at home to Ross County.  After our disastrous August, and home defeat to Hamilton in October, this December blow put Celtic on the canvas one more time.  I was getting calls from Norway “Are you still backing Ronny?” The transformation since has been enormous.

For much of the first half yesterday Celtic were disjointed, not untypical of a team returning from a European disappointment, but despite this, the support knew – actually knew – not to be too concerned.  Things would come together, and even if they didn’t yesterday, they would next time out, and for the rest of the season.

We have purpose and direction.  The first goal arrived courtesy of Aberdeen’s adherence to the oft-discredited man-for-man marking system, but thereafter, the goals, in fact, pretty much all attacks, came courtesy of the fastest, fittest, Celtic team you have ever seen.

Who do you want standing behind an opponent? One of the wealthiest people in the land, or a “glib and shameless liar”? I’d rather the latter, thank you.

As well as being a tax convict, Dave King sat on the Rangers board for a decade as it spiraled towards liquidation. He sat on the board which failed to make provisions for the HMRC tax case – and it was this specific failure, not the tax case, which led to the club being sold to a liquidation specialist for £1.

He campaigned relentlessly against newco, oft repeating his vision of ‘competing with Celtic’, while many of us considered the club should prioritise paying its bills and living within its means.

It seems certain that at some point between now and Friday he will be in de facto control, although his eligibility as a director appears doomed, should rules be applied.

Some will celebrate whenever Mike Ashley’s men depart the scene, but this is in keeping with their many earlier celebrations. Here’s a prediction for you: go back and read what the LibDems said after their people got into cabinet. ‘Once we saw what was under the bonnet, it became clear we couldn’t do what we wanted to do’. I reckon you’re going to hear a version of that in the months to come. Even today, Dave King has no idea what Mike Ashley has left him. All we really know is that the representatives of one very wealthy man are about to leave the scene.

Thanks to everyone who has bought a ticket to the CQN11 St Patrick’s Dinner at the Kerrydale Suite on Friday 13th March. If you would like details, let me know, celticquicknews@gmail.com

  4. Alfie noakes. Dearie me. You seem to think that holding PL and others to account for their actions or inactions is some sort of betrayal. I don’t particularly care about the hun and what they do. But just dos you try and excuse bad decisions doesn’t mewn they won’t be questiomned. We have all heard the all the money from transfers will be spent on the team before. Hilariously it changed to the club (including presumably peters bonus).

Celtic did well in the transfer window this winter.mfor the first time in an age they showed a little ambition. Let’s hope they keep it up.

For the sake of everyone’s sanity I won’t mention PL and dos collaboration with the hun nor their treatment of the support.

The team are doing well so let’s enjoy the ride for a while. But please don’t insult our intelligence in pretending that everything is perfect at CP. It’s very far from that.

Better Celtic teams than the current one have played worse teams than the current Dundee Utd team in LCF’s and lost…only saying…some Celtic managers from the last 20 year period have gone into LCF’s trying to play football the ‘Glasgow Celtic Way’…without ‘Glasgow Celtic Players’…in fact…even when we’ve had ‘Glasgow Celtic Players’…who played football the ‘Glasgow Celtic Way’…and we still got cuffed?!?!?…maybe it’s a LCF thing?…who knows?…Ronny seems to have turned the tables on PL and JP with his signing of GMS and, SA…two players who have the stuff to fill a Celtic jersey…some bargains can be found through the foreign-agent route….but…how many frogs do they have to kiss etc…an over-load of ‘chancer-signings’ has contributed hugely to the empty seats at CP…hopefully they days are over…anyway…Jimmy Nichol said in 1994 that Raith Rovers wouldn’t be going out to entertain the crowd by playing football…we’ll leave that to Celtic as, they’ve got better players…he said…bushy-tail or what…anyway…RD hizny won anything yet so…he has to be cute…his naivety…in the San Siro when he took our best player(GMS) off…makes me feel the need for the jury to stay oot!

CELTIC FEYENOORDOver my 45 years following Celtic, I’ve seen some strange bedfellows congregate together in order bad mouth anything to do with Celtic fans, but last week put the tin hat on it. An unholy trinity comprising of Police Scotland, The Scottish press and the vilest group of uneducated idiots came together to slander friendly foreign visitors.

Where to start with this nonsense ? Well the truth, the actual reality of the situation. Last year there was a fundraising night held in MaCulis in Glasgow. The event was organised and attended by Celtic and a group of Feyenoord fans. It was a great night, the Feyenoord group also attended a Celtic game. THERE WAS NO TROUBLE, and a couple of charities were delighted to receive the monies raised. Following this a group of Celtic fans made a visit to Rotterdam, again THERE WAS NO TROUBLE.

Following on from that success it was decided that another fund raiser would be held in Glasgow. This site was asked to help promote the event and we were delighted to help out. Now please bare that in mind as you read on, this site does not support or promote bigoted or racist groups. Everything appeared to be going well, the promotion of the event was very public, no hidden agenda, just football fans coming together, having a good time and raising money for charities. What could possibly go wrong ? Well in any other city or country, nothing. However this is Glasgow, Scotland and unfortunately we have an underclass of uneducated idiots, liars, fantasists, a dodgy media and a power crazed Police force. Between them this unholy trinity smeared and basically slandered a decent bunch of football supporters and in the end diminished the amount of money that could have been raised for three charities.

Things took a bizarre turn when the one vilest collection of lowlife bigots on the internet the ‘Vanguard Bears’ (the KKK without the hoods) decided to become the social and moral guardians of all that is good, told you it was bizarre. They ran an article that can only be described as a intolerant pack of lies. There was not one grain of truth contained in their rant. They also managed gave out information on a minor, because of selective tweets lifted from his fathers timeline. Now that’s a line no one should cross. They never even got the info on the father right. He is not and has never been a member of the Green Brigade, in fact the GB had nothing to do with the organisation of the fundraiser. That all I have to say about VB. I’m sure many of you already know of their ‘reputation’.

Now onto Police Scotland, In my opinion an out of control police force bent on keeping people in fear rather than ‘keeping People Safe’. In this I speak as a law abiding citizen with no criminal convictions. They decided that a group of visiting friendly supporters and the Celtic fans who were hosting them were in someway a threat to public order. They had no evidence to believe this, as I said the promotion of this event was never hidden, there was no underlying agenda. In fact the only real evidence they could have was that this group had visited Glasgow before without incident. However they were glad to give the media the impression the situation was being ‘monitored’. The end result was that Police resources that could have been better deployed on a Friday night in Glasgow were parked up all night outside a peaceful venue. The only risk to public order that could have occurred would have been if the KKK without the hoods had found out where that venue was.

The Scottish media, as always went ahead and published utter nonsense on the subject. The usual alarming headlines not backed up with any facts or quotes that might give a different opinion to the narrative they wanted toCELTIC PARK spin. They talked about how the event had been cancelled at two previous venues, without explaining why. They just left it hanging out there. If they had bothered to ask they would have been given the valid reason as to why the event had to eventually be held at a secret venue. Maybe the fact that some of the ‘peepil’ were hell bent on making sure it never went ahead for small minded reasons would not play out well in ‘One Scotland’. The saddest thing of all is that some in the Celtic support swallowed the lies hook, line and sinker. After the usual silence from the press and others in authority over the Cup semi final, you would think that some of our support would realise that the Scottish media are not the most even handed.

ayr utdYesterday the fans from Rotterdam were cheering on Celtic as we secured an important win. The day before they attended Ayr Utd’s win against Forfar. You probably didn’t know about the ties between Feyenoord and Ayr Utd, neither did I. However both games passed off with absolutely no trouble from the visiting Dutch supporters, just like there was no trouble from them in Glasgow or indeed Edinburgh on Thursday. They are a credit to their club, I’m only sorry that the unholy trinity made their visit less than welcome.

Everything that happened over the weekend was positive. The Feyenoord fans had a great time and three charities benefited from the fund raiser. I also hope we have another fundraiser in Glasgow in the near future, with a better response from the Celtic support. The weekend showed everything that is good about football supporters. Everyone involved should be proud. As for the rest, the unholy trinity and others, they should hang their heads.

  14. Good morning CQNers,

I was less than enthusiastic about the appointment of Ronny Deila as I felt he was a cheap option who had been parachuted into a position he wasn’t equipped to handle.

Early season I found some of his tactics and substitutions unfathomable and his baptism of fire in the early European qualifiers bordered on shambolic. However, I did acknowledge his late introduction in the close season meant he was a hostage to fortune regarding the club’s acquisitions. In saying that I also believed he was being too dogmatic and wasn’t making the best use of the talent he had at his disposal.

He spoke about progression but I didn’t see much progression by the team.

I’m not one swayed by cliques or going with the flow and I’m more than capable of making up my own mind and I call it as I see it.

I’m now more than happy to hold my hand up and acknowledge the team’s progression under Ronny Deila’s guidance. The introduction of Mackay-Steven and Armstrong have been a revelation, both for them and the team, if these two guys are an indication of Ronny’s future then I’m increasingly open to what he’s trying to do.

Being the cantankerous sort I’ll wait until a few months after the next transfer before deciding if Ronny has the credentials to take the club forward.

As always I wish Ronny the best of luck in his venture and I honestly hope he makes it.
