Financial Fair Play, Winding Up Orders, new CQN Magazine

868

Scottish clubs are now subject to Uefa Licensing and Financial Fair Play Regulations which insist club’s pay creditors in a timely manner or become subject to sanctions.  These pesky rules should prevent debts reaching a maturity of more than six months old and becoming subject of a Winding-up Order.  I am sure old Heavily Conflicted, also known as the SFA president, will have sprung into action on hearing recent news.

The Rangers yesterday issued a short statement following Channel 4’s story that Orlit Enterprise threatened a Winding-Up Order, insisting, “Rangers Football Club is capable of meeting any debts presented legitimately and we would like to stress to our supporters there is no threat to the Club whatsoever”.  They really need to stay on-message… football clubs are never threatened; it’s only the Company which can be liquidated!  Apparently.

I hear Charles Green is on an international bucket collection, Dubai and then onto Australia.  Meanwhile, it is crucial no one disturbs his important work.  When you think of the people who could have taken ownership of Ibrox last year, he has been absolutely perfect.

On other matters……..

The new edition of CQN Magazine is out and available for your consumption.  Written by and for Celtic fans, it is another Celtic joy!

I’m also delighted to report we have been seriously diss’ed by the Italians ahead of Tuesday’s Champions League game. Notes for the dressing room wall coming up soon!

I’m sure FIFA and UEFA will have a lot to say on how high Celtic float to the top of the world as much as the SFA did in the past.

  2. Margaret McGill,

If you can commit to the date of June 15th over here, I’d love to gibber some crap with you at the Stone Roses concert.

Off to catch up with a few zzzs as I probably will not get much tomorrow night.

The 6 inches we are supposed to have while minor in relation to Boston and New England is not to be sniffed at or taken lightly.

I just hope we have no power outages as I hate missing Celtic TV.

    Good night and God bless.

  4. The latest press releases from Traynor raise a number of questions, however the one that intrigues me is where is Malcolm Murray, Rangers Chairman , in all of this.

He along with Ian Hart and Walter Smith are 3 of 5 independent voices of the Plc .The other two non executive directors are Phillip Cartmel and Bryan Smart .However whilst Cartmel and Smart have the same legal responsibilities, they are not as exposed to Rangers daily activities and behaviours as Murray , Smith and Hart.

All non execs are there to monitor executive performance and to ensure that risk is properly monitored and to ensure the integrity of financial information. They have other responsibilities, however lets concentrate on these two for the moment.

    Executive Performance

The two executive Directors are Green and Stockbridge. However by any definition Traynor is also a key and senior management member. Green and Traynor must surely have raised concerns amongst the Non Execs.

Green is a walking talking exercise in contradiction and misinformation. A CEO of a Plc should not make the type of claims Green does on a regular basis. The more outrageous ,and based on all evidence, fictitious claims could very easily be construed as an attempt to encourage naive and unsophisticated individuals to invest in Rangers

The non execs are there , in part, to ensure that shareholders and potential shareholders are protected from outrageous claims of get rich quick. There is a moral and ethical responsibility on Malcolm Murray to ensure that when Green claims to potential investors that deals with Adidas and The Dallas Cowboys are a strong possibility that this is in fact the case , and not just a figment of Greens imagination and silver tongue

There is a serious element to this. The non execs on David Murray’s board did absolutely nothing to temper his bluster and behavior . The result was that many thousands of shareholders lost their entire investment and many hundreds of suppliers lost £10’s of millions .

Traynor equally has in very short order started to issue press releases that would be more appropriate for the Chief information officer of a Banana Republic. He has moved on from abusing the media, to suggesting that some of Rangers critics that he disagrees with should be handed down jail sentences . The irony that he himself was saying exactly and precisely the same only a few short months ago is apparently of no concern or embarrassment to him.

Traynor has also started to less than subtlety implicate that Celtic are the cause of Rangers woes at the same time as suggesting that Celtic are completely paranoid.

Malcolm Murray and his fellow non execs have made no public attempt to distance themselves from any of the claims and comments of Green and Traynor. The conclusion therefore is that they are aligned in their thinking and actions. In my view that puts Murray and his fellow non execs in dangerous territory

    Risk

The Rangers prospectus , presumably agreed and endorsed by Murray and his fellow non execs, painted a rosy picture. Opportunity abounded at every corner, and whilst it acknowledged the risks attendant on any start up, it also confirmed the business was off to a flyer.

£13.8 million profit in the first quarters trading is spectacular by any standards, even though that profit was entirely down to a one off revaluation gain ( where have I heard that before in relation to Rangers ???)

However Green had stated , in an unusually low key manner for him, both before and subsequent to the flotation , that there would be a loss of approximately £3.5 million for the full year. Unless my Maths are completely off that means a loss of £17.3 million in the final 3 quarters of the year.

However what would be more serious, would be if the P&L figures produced for the prospectus for Q1 were subsequently restated and didn’t include the one off gain. To produce an annual loss from a very large Q1 profit could only be achieved by either horrendous trading for the rest of the year or by effectively admitting the prospectus information was wrong.

Either scenario would be worrying for shareholders and should be a concern for the non execs who are legally responsible for the integrity of the financial reporting.

Time for Malcolm Murray to stop being the invisible man and to start to be seen doing his job

Worrying figures if one were a Sevcovian …any idea how they managed to generate such a substantial loss …takes a bit of doing

Also ….will the figures not include two years of ST sales..if so what’s the next year going to look like …particularly when McCoist gets his £10m to spend and those players substantial wages have to be paid

  14. I was always in the group that believed Rangers would never be allowed to “die”……but they are dead. However, a Newco at Ibrox is being treated in the same way and my feeling was that , in terms of being favoured, nothing has changed. The Establishment is still True Blue.

In England, for many years, Arsenal were the Establishment Club (for very different reasons for those which exist in Scotland) and Man U were just seen as a Northern, working class team.

United are now The Establishment team. Ex- Celtic manager Gordon Strachan is the Manager of Scotland. Celtic Captain Scott Brown is Captain of Scotland. Change CAN happen.

Off to golf. Cheerio for now (and I hope change has happened by the time I return!!)

  15. Oh dear, the fans’ chief who boycotted the boycott after he called for the boycott . . .

A RANGERS fans’ chief sneaked in to watch his team play Dundee United just hours after backing a boycott of the match.

Ross Blyth was spotted in the HOME END at Tannadice, despite thousands of fellow Bears agreeing to snub Saturday’s Scottish Cup tie.

He quit last night as vice-president of the Rangers Supporters’ Assembly for defying the ban backed by Ibrox supremo Charles Green.

Last night a source said: “He’s gone behind everyone’s back. It makes a laughing stock of the whole boycott.”

  16. Sandy Jardine is being featured big time in the record today. The following extract will have some people spluttering their breakfast tea over the table:

“I have not been to Ibrox yet but I hear the fans clap on two minutes every week which is very, very humbling. I’m really grateful for things like that because it has given me a real lift.

“When I was in hospital my wife kept all the letters and I have read every one of them.

“There were hundreds and hundreds of them but I just don’t have the energy yet to reply.

“I have had so many inspiring letters and I got a tremendous one from Peter Lawwell at Celtic, which was a really nice touch.”

  17. A Ceiler Gonof Rust on

The DR charm offensive in the name of sandy jardine today is nothing short of disgusting..They and he, use his cancer as a tool to justify his and their behavior during the rangers administration / liquidation phase as acceptable while sneaking the players who left into the situation and blaming them for sevco’s plight.

I wish the man no ill will and hope he recovers from his illness. At the same time though, I hope his bastard new club dies and rots in hell at the earliest opportunity.

The DR should be removed from the shelves and it’s journalists should be thrown on the scrap heap of life. This is nothing short of shameful exploitation of its brainless readers and in the words of the fat communicator, “deserves no further comment”.

    Zimmerman, re bars in Málaga

I live in Málaga but can’t really help as I don’t tend to watch in bars. I will have a wander round the next couple of days and see if anywhere is advertising it though.

BUT – a warning. In my first year here I turned up one Sunday lunchtime to a bar which had been advertising the OF game. I ordered my drink, asked where the football was

    – ‘oh we’re not showing it’

    – ‘ but it says on the window you are’

    – ‘ but we didn’t know we had to pay for it’

So for a while I settled for watching some games via livescore and cqn until I discovered streaming.

If I see anything I will let you know

  23. This is what must drive Jabba, even subconsciously, for I doubt he reads very much at all:

“It is natural for man to indulge in the illusions of hope. We are apt to shut our eyes against a painful truth, and listen to the song of that siren till she transforms us into beasts …..”
