Fine-tuning Tommy Burns methods

Almost exactly 10 years after Celtic fans alleged Porto’s adherence to the rules was less than faithful, when they won the Uefa Cup after extra time, their creative genius, Deco, failed a drugs test a substance used to mask performance-enhancing substances were found in his blood.

Is anyone surprised?

Congratulations to the Celtic under-20 team on securing league and cup double, the fourth consecutive season Celtic youths have recorded this achievement.  John Kennedy and Stevie Frail’s operation is years ahead of what was previously known as their domestic competition.

Celtic have been fine-tuning youth development since Tommy Burns returned from Amsterdam all those years ago with new strategies, some of which are still being used.  The cream graduate as Champions League players, but Celtic are pretty much running elite-level youth development in Scotland, a fact made clear when you look at the enormous number of Celtic training academy graduates earning a living across the rest of the league.

It used to be the case that Celtic wasted young talent.  Perceived wisdom was “Go to Aberdeen or Dundee United, they’ll turn you into a player”.  The opposite is now true.

  4. A galoot of 55,000 Orcs will hump into Mordor on Saturday to prove the grimy, bitter soul of Scotland is undead and festering.

Through the songs of their unknown fathers they will soil the air of the 21st Centrury with putrid vitriol from centuries past.

The event will reinforce the MSM mantra that the huns in any shape or spectral form are a Scottish ‘institution’, and therefore worthy of saving grace.

The Ku Klux Klan are an American institution. Those who would miss it should it meet its end are not worthy of any grace.

It’s a simple enough parallel to draw. And an eerily truthful one.

  5. NFL is bang on giving players a holiday just now, the CL qualifiers will again be the most important games of our season and the squad needs to be up and at it by mid July.

I have a feeling we will loose none of our top players and a couple of early additions will add some competition to the squad.

Hope Lenny has got John Park working overtime at the moment.

What is it with you people? One would expect contributors to a Celtic site to spell Irish sounding names in a proper way. Snake you are the latest culprit. There is no Terry O Neill. There is Terry O’Neill. Why can people not spell our names properly? MON? What does that mean? You may as well call him Martin O Something. Our apostrophe is there for a reason.

    John O’Neil!

The Ó in Irish surnames is was originally spelled “Ua”, which means “descendent in the line”. The English mistook the fada (the stroke over the O which affects the pronunciation) as an apostrophe.

You should become a member of The Apostrophe Protection Society. Does an explanation mark in your surname affect the pronunciation?

pedrocaravanachio67, don’t like how the owner made his money. Don’t like some parts of their fan base. Incidentally, unless my mind is playing tricks on me, I seem to recall hearing some of them shouting loyalist slogans; during a silence for the death of Pope John Paul II. It never merited a mention in the press. They are a plastic club. No soul. The complete opposite to our beloved institution.

  13. So who didn’t know, MSM their in built agenda, their phoney baloney Celtic callers, and all the unrepentant phone in barstewards, that allegedly are missing Sevco, a the case for the laughable ‘fast tracking’ wouldn’t continue, or mythologically exist.

Did anyone believe they’d accept anything else, why would Sevconians have any

reason otherwise, to get out of bed in the morning if they didn’t have hope that there was life after Ramsden scale failure?

There would be no MSM without the need to perpetuate Sevconian misbelief.

You could have forecast Celtic’s rationale with realignment on season tickets sales, long ago, and has been coming on this Blog for at least six seasons, including lead articles from Paul67, along with posts that outlined, the size of Celtic Park in relation the league we play in, and the lack of finance for our football, out of kilter with league sponsorship and TV revenue.

If we’re serious about dominating with continual CL participation ad infinatum, Celtic mustn’t only look at season ticket price reduction, but continue much further beyond, ST’s where even at present, our base, in comparison with the upper echelons of European football, is still creditable, proving we’re exceptionally well run and financially healthy, despite the obvious handicaps.

  14. I think Sammi’s goal was the best MOVE of the season. Prunty’s and Carey’s were a bit of that and individual skill. Griffiths was simply his own skill.

  17. Laughing at the nonsense about Nonuts, Miller and Boyd going back to Sevco when they are losing £1M a month.

Season ticket renewals with a price increase being posted this week I take it?

I went to the youth game last night and for the first half the Bhoys struggled against what seems to be the eternal Dunfermline tactic of playing only giants- their long ball tactic and massive striker terrorised our centre backs. Our passing was woeful as well which didnt help. The second half saw some improvement as our passing started reaching those in hoops and the winger- George I think, started putting in some decent crosses. Nothing I saw last night suggests anyone who should be in the first team now- though I’m sure that nerves played a part in this.

The smoke bombs that went off near me didnt seem to cause any deaths or even strained breathing- and I have asthma- I even managed to walk unaided for a pee- I mention this because of the heavy police cordon with sniffer dogs- all for a youth cup game not involving Sevco- a good use of tax money?

  19. John O Neil on

pedrocaravanachio67, nice to agree with someone tonight. I should say that my recollection stemmed from listening to radio 5 live. To be fair to Chelsea’s support, it seemed to be only a few voices shouting nonsense like “no surrender”.

” Sevco- a good use of tax money?”

That’s the question Hector wants answered as well mate.
