Fine-tuning Tommy Burns methods

Almost exactly 10 years after Celtic fans alleged Porto’s adherence to the rules was less than faithful, when they won the Uefa Cup after extra time, their creative genius, Deco, failed a drugs test a substance used to mask performance-enhancing substances were found in his blood.

Is anyone surprised?

Congratulations to the Celtic under-20 team on securing league and cup double, the fourth consecutive season Celtic youths have recorded this achievement.  John Kennedy and Stevie Frail’s operation is years ahead of what was previously known as their domestic competition.

Celtic have been fine-tuning youth development since Tommy Burns returned from Amsterdam all those years ago with new strategies, some of which are still being used.  The cream graduate as Champions League players, but Celtic are pretty much running elite-level youth development in Scotland, a fact made clear when you look at the enormous number of Celtic training academy graduates earning a living across the rest of the league.

It used to be the case that Celtic wasted young talent.  Perceived wisdom was “Go to Aberdeen or Dundee United, they’ll turn you into a player”.  The opposite is now true.

Happy to report an injury free (but certainly not pain) free night of Thursday CQN 5s. Very competitive game tonight with 1 goal in it, at the end!!

We have a few on the injury list, including Captain Moonlight, Hamilton “Ali baba” Tim and Estoril Bhoy (long term) and one retiree in Bjmac ( knee injury) as old age takes the toll on the body whilst the mind remains immature.

  8. I was at the game on Monday, I posted on Tuesday I think, I was there to lend support to a family member and not really bothered about the football but wanting to see the hoops win obviously and a decent game of football. This is what I saw from when I arrived till I went for a few beers in the west end, once the huns had went, well, wherever they go.

    My first ever report.

Arrived in taxi 5 minutes late and turned the corner into the street where the Main Stand is to find three “meat wagons” large vehicles, carriers of Glasgows finest and one youth with a Celtic scarf lying on the grass while surrounded by six of said finest, oh, and two on his back, one on his neck. For some reason the taxi driver decided it was better to let us out where we were, we thanked him and went on our way. On approaching the main stand where we were to pick up our tickets we heard more sirens and more flashing lights as two fire engines stopped outside the main door and entered. We hung back and let them get on with it, the fire service left almost as soon as they arrived. The game was played and it was not a bad game with the orcs winning 3-2, there were kids who looked nervous and two standouts, 1 on each team, read the real match reports. The last twenty minutes of the game saw about two minutes of football played and 18 minutes of time wasting. What surprised me was the crowd, Celtic fans set off flares and a couple of bangers, I do not condone that. The Sevco kids fans continuously set off bangers and flares and there was a crowd behind the goals of about three hundered who sang some tunes with lyrics I guess you have heard before. I was in the main stand accross from the main body of Celtic fans who I did not here sing any sectarian songs at all. During the game there were 18 police behind the goal where the new clubs fans were setting off smoke bombs and throwing bangers at their goalkeeper. At the Celtic end there was one policeman and four to six stewards who had a quiter evening. At the end of the game I left immediately to persue one of my other great loves, that of Mrs Artios and a warm establishment where to pertake in her excellence. I duly found a fine establishment just in time as hordes of black clothed neanderthalls appeared over the horizon at the botom of Maryhill Road, most with there faces covered and shouting at Celtic stragglers who were not quick enough to get into the town before them. The Police actually did not bad at this time and stopped this mob from moving further down the street, moving them into the Liddll (spelling?) car park. What did I do, well I had another pint and we left twenty minutes later to have a fine evening with more Stella.

Someone posted earlier that if ever this mob were to gain a position in the SPL like the club that used to play in the same stadium, that these fans may be even worse than the previous Ipox deed holders. Going by this showing they were absolutely correct, and that is what we are all missing in Scottish football apparently.
