Fog of stress begins to lift from Lennon

980

A line has hopefully been drawn under the stress Neil Lennon has lived under during the last two years with the conviction of two men found guilty of sending bombs in the post.  In a statement, Neil said: This has been a very stressful and difficult time for myself and my family and clearly I am glad that it is over”, before adding, “I will forever be thankful to the Police for the way in which they have handled this matter.”

Celtic chief executive, Peter Lawwell, added: “No one could imagine the pressure [Neil Lennon] has been under during the past two years.  He has coped with this particular episode, last year’s assault and the, at times, seemingly unrelenting attacks from many quarters.

“In my opinion, no-one in Scottish footballing history has had to contend with this level of pressure whilst trying to do their job.  Neil Lennon is someone who has shown tremendous character and resilience, and we will continue to support Neil in any way we can.”

This month has been made all the more difficult for Neil Lennon by the sudden death of Paul McBride, also a target of the bombing campaign.  Neil Lennon said, “Finally, I would like to mention my good friend Paul McBride.   His sad passing remains very raw to those close to him, we continue to miss him dearly and my thoughts remain very much with Paul’s family.”

The SFA have written to Neil Lennon three times since the start of the trial earlier this month to capitalise on perceived transgressions by the Celtic manager while yesterday a former referee used his newspaper column to undermine Neil’s position at Celtic.

These people really do need to get a grip.

Within minutes of the verdict being announced yesterday news of Stilian Petrov’s serious illness was made public.  Stilian will received the very best medical attention and all our prayers.

I agree, these administrators really need to be checked, after all the assurances that they’d survive the season and the non-redundancies, they’ve raised more questions about themselves than there is about Rangers.

I sit in south stand very close to dugout and the abuse not only the players but Neil Lennon has taken at times is disgusting . That was the reason for my comment, too many criticise n moan n abuse week in week out then are happy to celebrate what this young team and manager are about to achieve. With constant media and opposition hatred to deal with it saddens me when it comes from our own although it is a minority. I understand most will disagree and that’s completely fine, the main is we WILL be champions.

  9. Tomorrow will be another step closer to GLORY for Neil Francis Lennon, his bhoys & us, It may take a few more steps than we had hoped for but GLORY it will be for sure.

The day he hoists the league trophy above his proud, unbowed & unbroken body will be one of the best days of my life.

So enjoy EVERY step and be patient we have waited this long a few more steps aint much, IN the meantime we have the slow painful death of the Orcs to watch & help us pass the time.

  10. I don’t recall ANY of the Scottish succulent lamb brigade putting together such a damning indictement of Rankers as Alex Thomson did in 5 minutes to last night.

Yes,I want ‘them’ dead & gone,buried,incognito,forgotten…..not in a footballing sense- they’ve never played football anyway, just ‘murderball’- but because they have long been a fascist criminal organisation. Well, they can no longer claim The Nuremberg Defence, and they should not have threatened A.T. They may get away with that kind of guff on their own turf,i.e. parts of Scotland.

These days Rankers represent the worst of the Loyalist tendency. They have spread their bigoted Shankhill Butcher ethos to a whole new generation of Orange illiterates in Scotland, where they think they have fertile ground to perpetuate their thuggery.

It’s evident in every aspect of Rankers, from the boardroom to their ill-educated shock troops–-their twisted version of fans.

And,like many of us,I won’t be content until I can look upon their remains and feel safe that they won’t rise again.

I can’t apologise for repeating myself because I feel SO strongly about the above.

Why are espn saying the fat one is ‘dignified’?

Is there another way a football manager usually acts if a club has ran themselves into administration and under several investigations and court cases?

Is there a precedent in how to act?

Does his dignity single him out from the club given the undignified way the club has ran its affairs?

Will the dignified McCoist publicly apologise to the taxpayers of the UK if his club lose their precarious appeal given how dignified he is?

Has he publicly apologized for his club bringing the game into disrepute?

Is Ally McCoist setting the benchmark for managers whom are part of clubs who fall foul of the taxman with his behaviour?

Perhaps an award for dignity should be established especially if you’ve not won anything else.

A very powerful post, and one obviously from the heart. I don’t necessarily want thme to disappear, but if it happens due to their own negligence fair enough.

What I do want is them punished to the full extent of the rules for their wrongdoing, but I think even this is too much to hope for given the self interest that will rule the minds of most SPL boards. The only hope is (if they liquidate and have to reapply to the SPL as a Newco) that Romanov will vote against them getting back into the SPL, and their Fighting Fund seem to have almightily p!ssed off Dundee United.

  16. NatKnow - "We welcome the paper-chase..." on

    Jam67 –

Agree. This is why publishing of their reports of the key decisions they make in each game is important. Right now all we have is the occasional comment if they choose to do so. Mandatory reporting would mean that they would have to explain their decision-making. Over a period of time, these decisions can be analysed and some assessment made as to how consistent or otherwise they have been. Without published reports this is not possible – it’s all heresay.

I wouldn’t expect mandatory reporting will lead to every decision being correct – there will always be human error. But it would at least allow some kind of analysis to be applied after enough data had been collected.

It would also make them acutely aware that their performance would be scrutinised. We’re not exactly setting a high bar here – in what is a multi-million pounds industry, this kind of performance management is the MINIMUM we should expect from those who have such a responsibility.

Hooper and Samaras don’t have as good a record as Stokes and Hooper, but they’ve been played in the more difficult games. The midfield performance v Dunfermline at CP of Brown, Ki and Ledley, with Commons given a free role, remains the best I’ve seen under Neil Lennon, while Izzy surely deserves a start after last weekend. The SPL accepted the proposal. To be fair, Ross County’s ground will meet the minimum requirement in time for the start of the new season, so they won’t be groundsharing at all, but they needed to demonstrate that they had a compliant ground to play in for their SPL license application by the 31st March deadline, hence the ‘groundshare’ is effectively simply an expedient to fulfil the license requirements rather than a practical suggestion.

The reason Glasgow Rangers are still “fighting” is that they have connections. This short excerpt from a 62 page report into Sectarianism is helpful as it shows that Glasgow Rangers were connected to the Freemasons in 1912 by John Ure Primrose, and along with Bill Struth Rangers scouted the area of people who were ‘more than Protestants.’ That association has served Rangers well but has been to the utter detriment to Scottish Football and the antithesis of Glasgow Celtic.

As Celtic fans, we know this, and while following the cash and the receipts one might catch normal corruption, this brand of corruption is much harder to prove, because this corruption is done on the shake of a hand. To many it is too simplistic, but my expertise is on the history and background of this group since the days of Adam, when they were known by a different name.

Please take a few minutes to read and understand, that THIS is a key factual account of why Rangers have this impenetrable factor around them. Silence is the key. If no-one speaks, no-one knows.

Glasgow Rangers Football Club and Sectarianism in Scottish Football

    _______________________________________________________

Glasgow Rangers Football Club was formed in 1872. Their name came from an English rugby club and is devoid of political and religious connotations. For Esplin, the team was Protestant but only in the sense that, like many Scottish clubs of the time, they were made up of Protestant players, as well as having strong links to the world of shipbuilding. As Bill Murray1 points out, the geographical proximity to the shipyards of the Clyde makes it a reasonable assumption that the club attracted a large number of shipyard workers as supporters. This adds to the Protestant ethic at the club as Protestant workers mainly occupied the docks at that time.

After the formation of their great rivals, Glasgow Celtic, in 1888, Rangers found themselves lagging behind the new side as Celtic took the Scottish footballing world by storm and for Esplin:

“Given the anti-Catholic feeling at the time, it is no surprise that Celtic’s success was not well received. Scottish society demanded a Protestant team to redress the balance and it was Rangers who emerged as suitable candidates.”2

At the time, the local nature of Rangers Protestantism was supplemented by wider religious tension that increasingly permeated Scottish society. The issue of Irish Home Rule across the Irish Sea brought many Scottish-based Ulster Protestants to the streets to protest, the Irish Catholic community leading counter protests.

    *********************************************************************************************************************

The arrival of the Belfast shipbuilders, Harland and Wolff and their notoriously sectarian employment policy in Glasgow, compounded political agendas.

    *********************************************************************************************************************

1912 was to prove to be a very significant year for Protestants both in Scotland and Ulster. In 1912 James Craig and Edward Carson established the Ulster Volunteer Force in Ulster3. Willie Malley, in ‘The Story of Celtic,’ reports of there being no serious trouble between

    ————————————————————————————————————-

Rangers and Celtic prior to 1912, suggesting that the arrival of the shipbuilders had a

    ——————————————

significant effect on social relations in Glasgow.

It was also the year John Ure Primrose became president of Rangers.

    —————————————————————————————

Primrose was an outspoken anti-Catholic and publicly pledged Rangers to the Masonic cause

    **********************************************************************************************************************

    ———————————————————–***********************************************************

His predecessor, James Henderson, had been respected in the Catholic communities, but Primrose became an active West of Scotland Unionist, publicly voicing anti-Catholic sentiments. He recognised that a rivalry with Celtic would bring financial returns and through clearer religious lines, that rivalry could be sharpened and all this could be done under significant moral justification.

For Finn4, the Unionist sympathies of Rangers did not begin with the formation of Celtic, citing the involvement of Rangers in the formation of Clydebank as support for this point. As Rangers were formed at a time when anti-Catholic feelings were strong in Scotland, it is a reasonable assumption that they were indeed a Protestant club, but it is a little unfair to label them Unionist at this early stage.

It was not until the 1960’s that the burning issue of sectarianism reared its ugly head at Ibrox. A former player, Ralph Brand, made the sectarian policy at Rangers public knowledge and around this time the behaviour of Rangers fans was a real problem for the club. In 1963, Rangers fans jeered during the minute’s silence for assassinated Catholic U.S. President John F. Kennedy. Then, in 1967, then vice Chairman Matt Taylor was questioned about Rangers no Catholics policy and he stated that he felt that they policy was

“part of our tradition….we were formed in 1873 as a Protestant boys club. To change now would lose us considerable support.”5
