Football in July, the brilliant Dave King

1046

Celtic play their fifth and final preseason friendly tomorrow before Tuesday’s Champions League qualifier in Armenia.  Five games feels light.  Legs will still be tired after each game, the prospect of 90 minutes in extreme heat will not be welcome.

Opponents Alashkert will have played only three preseason games before facing Celtic, each against lower league Russian opponents, so while they will cope better with the heat, their underlying fitness will not be better than Celtic’s.

In theory, Tuesday’s game should be welcomed as an opportunity to increase preparedness before the tougher challenges that lie ahead.  But this is football in July, when normal rules do not apply, as Lincoln Red Imps demonstrated two years ago.

Loved the lack of logic in Dave King’s written response to BBC’s Alasdair Lamont’s question on the Takeover Panel’s Contempt of Court proceedings.  “The [Takeover Panel] know that I live in [South Africa] and that it will require exchange control approval to move the funds to London.  They are just bullying me”.

The Takeover Panel’s rules (which exist for everyone) that an offer has to have proven funds in the UK is not an actual impediment.  If King’s funds were not in the UK, he would be unable to pay for the shares three weeks after the offer is made.

Takeover Panel rules merely bring the date cash is required forward by three weeks.  Still, I am sure this talk of bullying will make the Takeover Panel think twice before crossing King again.

This guy is beyond brilliant.  He is behaving like this openly.  You know how it ends.

  1. I would want an Independent Scotland all things being equal. But, imo, all things are not equal (and sadly won’t be for the forseeable future). Scotland is NOT at heart the country it likes to think itself. It has a deep rooted hatred of Irish Catholicism and won’t face that. Again, imo, the SNP. It has its roots in that.

As for the Labour Party, the far Left, who seem to me to have taken over, have little or no time for any faith, but especially, Judaism. But they did represent the majority of Catholics in Scotland for a long time.

I’ll still vote but it is not an easy decision for me.

‘As for the Labour Party, the far Left, who seem to me to have taken over, have little or no time for any faith, but especially, Judaism.’

Well the Labour Party is led by Corbyn and McDonnel. McDonnell is a former Catholic, who for a while trained for the priesthood. Two of Corbyn’s closest advisers are James Schneider, who describes himself as culturally Jewish and who studied Theology at university, and Jon Lansman who is also Jewish.

The idea that the Labour Party has become anti Semitic since Corbyn and McDonnell came to the fore doesn’t stand up to any degree of scrutiny.

This article strikes the right note regarding the issue.

In the year 451 AD at the Battle of Chalons, the Romans and Visigoths defeated Attila the Hun and his Hun hordes who were wearing orange Hummel tops with holes in the sleeves…

Why don’t we have an annual walk to celebrate the battle? We could wear crimplene suits and drink buckfast and get tattoos of Flavius Aetius on our arms…it would be great fun…

  6. Watched the Simon Ferry interviewing Ian Durrant and Derek Ferguson. They were discussing the dead club signing of Judas.

Apparently Souness wanted to sign Frank McAvennie before Judas – Durrant stated that “Macca widnae dae it.”

    Some legend.

The Marc Wilson interview was excellent as well.

Think that Lenny, Souness and Roy Keane had similar characteristics on the park, bordering on mental.

    HH. ?

  7. Pity McDonnell didn’t complete his training and become a priest – the world needs more politicians like I need a hole in the head as the saying goes.

  8. Of course the Labour Party conducted an investigation into anti semetism in the party.

I’m sure the sfa would approve of this approach

  9. last night with all the footballs coming home chants, ant the st george,s flags, I thought wish I was back in Scotland. but that attack on the priest made me think better of it. at least here in my village the 12th of july doesn’t get mentioned .hh.

Labour sold their soul. Greedy b….. that helped what has transpired in in Scotland.

The only thing I see is the Tories helping along another vote & that will be their undoing.

    Labour then have a chance…but …

Some strong words about that disgusting attack and rightly so.

I have advocated using the blog as a platform for change not just football news.

All replies from the MSP in question should be published.

If he deflects start preparing to replace him and indeed use these pages to suggest and question his prospective replacement.

Ideally it would be a Qner but if not ah well.

Get them on for an online interview about how they will change things and hold them to those words always.

    When are the elections anyone?

Perhaps Catholic places of worship need CCTV now or at least a camera with a street view?

Anyway stay safe and Hail Hail from where its already sweaty and its not even 9am.

  17. And so..that’s how the blog breaks down..

  19. Bankiebhoy………orange parade….orange walk……..STV now saying its an orange procession…..sounds better eh! you would have thought the police would have been given cameras and would have been able to identify the culprit who attacked the Priest……maybe the camera crew are reserved for the track side at the stadium on match days.. cut backs spring to mind….. for the foot tappers .

*Hmmm unless they don the black mass vestments, and I don’t mean hummel training gear, then they are not former Catholics as you can’t unbaptise yourself, they are what we used tae call lapsed Catholics who usually found the Faith again on their death beads.

  21. BIG PACKY 1 on 8TH JULY 2018 5:02 PM

MAHE THE MADMAN .yes they do think they have won it, but maybe Croatia have other ideas

*I have 5 grandweans that have a dida and backa so I’m leaning toward the Croats. However, i hate tae say this but I think the outlanders will beat them.

They have had an easy run tae the semis while Croatia have just come off 2 extra time and penalties games and were struggling on leaving the pitch at the end, also Denmark and Russia were no great shakes couple that with having players who have had a long season including Mordic, Kovacic, Rakatic, Lovren, Vrsaljko etc and there are not too many spring chickens in their squad, plus they are not half as good as the original “Golden Generation”

As for the limeysceissen, maguire, trippier, henderson, young, jones, wellbeck, WTF they’re no European household names but they still have played less games than the Croats.

  22. Well, the BBC reported the attack of Canon Tom on the 5 o’clock news. Very underwhelming the report was too. It stated that the Archdiocese had put it up on social media and that the Police said a man had been attacked near the Barras. The Orange Order had denied any involvement.

Scotland’s utter and total denial of its not so secret shame.

  23. Watched 66 Days again last night, very disturbing. Us of a certain vintage can sing all day long the rebs but we have no idea what it was like in the black north, and yet, they have moved on. While in the “greatest wee country in the world”, what about Croatia and Uruguay with a lesser population, are attacking the clergy in the streets on summers day in the countries biggest city.

  24. My friends in Celtic,

This attack on the priest is not a minor offence, it is a hate crime . If the attack was on any other faith leader the perpetrator and his affiliated organisation would be hunted down and possibly outlawed.

The sentence would be mega and used as a deterrent.

I fear that the relatively recent political divisiveness in Scotland has given this dying , backward, outdated sectarian order a renewed focus and impetus.

They are Scotland’s shame and should never be tolerated in a civilised country. The fact that Police Scotland see this as minor is also very telling.

    HH.

  25. TONTINE TIM. hope you are well, but don’t let the outlanders beat the croats please.hh.
