Formidable task for final preseason test

845

I am sure we will see a full strength Celtic team against Inter Milan tomorrow but that doesn’t mean Celtic will be able to overturn their summer form against what will be the best squad of players they have met since facing the same team in the Dublin Cup almost exactly a year ago.  Inter will be formidable opponents.

The experimentation of recent weeks will be set aside as Neil Lennon prepares for next week’s enormously important Champions League qualifying game against HJK Helsinki.  In particular, we are likely to see a more familiar looking back four and midfield.  What happens up front remains to be seen.  Celtic have struggled to get into scoring form preseason; the manager will be keen to resolve this, if possible.

Most of all we need a 90 minutes free of elbows in the face and other injuries as the real stuff is only five days away.

  1. Markets give able people the oppertunity to gain access to wealth through hard work, not everyone is able. A measure of society is how we treat those who are not able.

Well I’m not as intelligent as guys like Richard Branson and thon Duncan Bannatyne twat…so I’m just not worthy or able…does it never cross the mind of you market worshippers that maybe “normal” and “ordinary” people are not interested in being rich or f***ing people over for money because they have other “deeper” interests and maybe are too busy caring and loving for those people around them they have adjusted meaningful relationships with?

Maybe it is the entrepreneurs who are “abnormal” for wanting more than they need, for spending more time making money than having meaningful relationships, and not the other way around?

Maybe material ambition is actually a sign that you lack something rather than being an uncritically positive value in a monetary materialistic system- but then that is the problem with materialists: they think everyone is like them and so everyone is the same; and if you can’t make as much filthy lucre and have success, like an enormous monument to their fragile ego’s, then you are just plain lazy or stupid to be like them.

Maybe we don’t want to be like you.

You are on £95 pw Income Support and receive £345pm in Housing Benefit that keeps you away from the areas that attract trouble. You have type one diabetes and a mental health issue ranging from paranoid schizophrenia to apergers but only your diabetes is considered.

Under the return to work policy and because of the need to cut back public expenditure your living benefit is cut to £71pw and your HB is cut to £254 pm .

You were never rich to start with but now you are much much poorer.by about 23% on income where every pound is a prisoner. The switchover leads to delays in payment and non payment that create further stress.

I hope you never have to meet conditions like this in your life because if you did I think you would see things a lot differently.

Are there better ways of dealing with the reality of life? Only when the complexities of that reality is accepted by all and that there is no easy one size fits all answer. Plus of course compassion for those in need of help and gratitude that but for the grace of God…

  7. Philvis, where do we start this time? How about Hobbes – surely he’s on your approved list? As I’m sure you are aware, he argues that civil society comes into being when the people, living in a state of nature, agree that an all-powerful Leviathan is necessary in order to prevent the chaos which he describes as a war of every man against every man… You will agree, I’m sure, that he argues that all must obey the despotic government in order to protect the weak from the strong and the wealthy from the poor. The problem today is that the wealthy no longer wish to contribute enough to allow the state to conduct affairs of government in a fair and equitable manner.

You posted a list of freebies earlier from which you argued that the poor benefit. I have yet to find a free hospital, television service or education service. Perhaps you could direct me to one? That way, all those mugs paying licence-fees, tax and NI in order to receive these public services could opt out of the national system and improve their lot as you suggest by benefitting frim the free market.

While we are on the free market, you also mention that monster as the best mechanism to deliver the poor from their fate? I assume that, in whichever guise you wish to portray this miracle, it will amount to the ‘trickle-down economics’ which have so spectacularly failed to deliver to date? As you will be aware, between the old Liberals and their permanent Tory bedfellows, the Capitalist Maters have been in government much more than the nasty Socialists for the last hundred years and more. To what then do you attribute their failure to deliver even a working (as opposed to morally and legally upright) banking system? I know, they were too soft on the plebs…

Proportionately, the richest decile in this country have never paid less in taxes than they do now. Guss what? Ever since dear old Maggie sold off the family silver at a loss and shifted the burden of taxes from direct to indirect taxation, the poor now pay more than ever. That was the stunt that was!

Poverty causes famine? I must be slow on the uptake, so feel free to educate me. In a free market, the person with the most money and desire can buy anything they wish. It therefore matters not how much cash the poor have, the rich always maintain a dominant position within the market due to their control of the means of production and violence, in part through their domination of the political system. Am I wrong?

    Anytime you like.

    (Thumbs up!)

    Happy Friday to everyone.

I have been hopping from Slovakia to Scotland and back so apologies for not meeting up with various CQNers (maybe next time).

I just want to say thank you to everyone on this blog. For the last 8 years of my life I have had a personal nightmare in one area of my life but now thankfully it has reached a resolution which means I am now ready and able to move on with my life for the better.

I have never spoken of this issue on CQN or to other friends and I can assure you all it has been torturous – a living hell at times. I want to thank each and every member of this blog for being there for me in my most difficult times even though you all had no idea and I would once again like to apologize to any posters that I offended or had issues with – I was going through a rough patch (which lasted 8 years) but I want you all to know you have made a huge impression on me and been a huge help and inspiration at times.

I’ve had a rough time but now I look forward to the future. I will not reveal any other details about my situation but I just want to say a huge thank you to this blog. I honestly think it kept me sane and perhaps saved my life.

    Hail Hail

Hopefully we can move on to a good performance tomorrow and a win on Wednesday.

I don`t wast time trying to change their minds. That is futile . I do, however, speak to them about other matters as, as philvis often demonstrates, their conversation is often enjoyable away from the MSN generated/drip fed opinions.

  23. The Scottish FA are on the verge of granting a temporary membership to allow Rangers to play this weekend.

STV understands the governing body will allow the club to fulfil its Ramsdens Cup game with Brechin City, if holding company Sevco Scotland Limited agrees to meet certain conditions.

These include signing off on the transfer of the old company’s member share in the Scottish Premier League to Dundee, which Duff and Phelps have retained despite being compelled to hand it over to the Dark Blues.

Sevco Scotland Limited must also legally accept previous sanctions imposed by the Scottish FA, which will see the club banned from signing new players for one year from September 1.

The company must also sign to accept the full repayment of all football debt to other clubs. They have already verbally agreed to honour these conditions.

A source close to the discussions has told STV that the deal would allow Rangers to participate in matches until Friday, August 3. The transfer of the SPL share must be completed by this date.

Lawyers for the Scottish FA and Sevco Scotland are currently thrashing out the finer details of the agreement to grant temporary membership in time for Sunday’s fixture.

An outstanding dispute between Charles Green and SPL chief executive Neil Doncaster has held up the permanent transfer of the club’s Scottish FA membership to the new company.

The pair remain locked in discussions on Friday night to reach a compromise over the SPL’s investigation into alleged non-contractual payments made by Rangers last decade.

Green wants the probe to be dropped, while the league wants to be able to conclude the case and potentially strip titles from the club if found guilty.

If a settlement between Charles Green and can be reached on Friday night, full membership will instead be conditionally granted and the club will not be required to receive temporary dispensation to play.
