Formidable task for final preseason test

845

I am sure we will see a full strength Celtic team against Inter Milan tomorrow but that doesn’t mean Celtic will be able to overturn their summer form against what will be the best squad of players they have met since facing the same team in the Dublin Cup almost exactly a year ago.  Inter will be formidable opponents.

The experimentation of recent weeks will be set aside as Neil Lennon prepares for next week’s enormously important Champions League qualifying game against HJK Helsinki.  In particular, we are likely to see a more familiar looking back four and midfield.  What happens up front remains to be seen.  Celtic have struggled to get into scoring form preseason; the manager will be keen to resolve this, if possible.

Most of all we need a 90 minutes free of elbows in the face and other injuries as the real stuff is only five days away.

part of my point is that I prefer guys who want to be in the team and at the Club..which is why you need to constantly refresh – we have a unique opportunity to get Dylan, Tony Watt, etc in ..and cash in on guys who feel they can do better in the EPL.

I know its a deeply unpopular opinion but I’d love Barton in the Hoops for a season – nasty horrible past but an opportunity for him to shine in Champions League and a player who has a great ‘winning’ mentality. Scott Brown is a very diluted version IMO and unlikely to take us much further as captain.

There is certainly deadwood in the squad.

I think you may be targeting some of the wrong players, though.

Broadly,we agree. The squad needs a clear-out. It is not good for player or club at the moment on far too many occasions.

And for the avoidance of doubt, the famine in The Yemen has been caused by the shift of available produce to available money.

It took me a long time to see any value in having Brown in a Celtic jersey, however, I do feel he has attributes that are needed in the modern game.

Having coached Dylan for a short time, many years ago, I have a soft spot for him and would love to see him make an impact this year.

    Barton?

No thanks. I’d stop going if we signed him, he’s the very antithesis of what we’re about.

    Nope.

People buying food don’t cause famines.

People not having enough money to buy food is what causes famine.

There’s more than enough agricultural capacity in the world to feed everybody. (thumbsup)

when wealth creation is designed to look after only the few then wealth creation is responsible for poverty and the consequences of poverty as there is only so much wealth/ resources within any given society. if one group takes 90% of the wealth then it only leaves 10% for all other groups, hence the creation of a lack of resources for the given group which creates and maintains poverty. to argue that poverty is no a social construct is plain stupid, simply look at the amount of food in the world and compare with the amount of children dying of starvation, tell me is there enough food to feed everyone?, so why is it not being used to feed everyone? thats right some have the resources to buy it and others dont.

Howevah,as one more learned than myself may say, there are eerie echoes from the past in the situation in The Yemen, and I’m surprised that you cannot see them.

I believe there have been famines in other countries in the past where the problem really boiled down to affordability.

Anyway, wealth creation doesn’t just “look after the few”.

What’s happened in our society over the last 100 years is that the rich have gotten richer… and the poor have gotten richer. It’s not a zero sum game.

If we want to eliminate starvation, we need to create more wealth across the world. (thumbsup)

the reason some people have and some have not is because of the distribution of money/wealth/ resources. we cant say one groups excess does not have an impact on the other group when it so clearly does. afterall, all the groups are taking out of the same pot.

You are far too intelligent to be SERIOUS in your justification of those who want more than they can possibly need, to the detriment of others.

Can’t we simply distribute resources more effectively to those who need it most?

That would appear, to me anyway, an easier solution?

  18. The poverty of our century is unlike that of any other. It is not, as poverty was before, the result of natural scarcity, but of a set of priorities imposed upon the rest of the world by the rich. Consequently, the modern poor are not pitied…but written off as trash. The twentieth-century consumer economy has produced the first culture for which a beggar is a reminder of nothing. ~John Berger

Auldheid whats your take on the rumours regarding Rangers name etc- HMRC to go after them if they play in the same strip and call themselves after a soon to be liquidated outfit? Focus of the licence ‘negotiations’ should be to emphasise in no uncertain terms the requirement to distance themselves as much as possible from oldco, even if they do play in the same stadium?

    ====================

If I were HMRC I would be following events very closely and if there was a prime facie case this was the same business entity as before that used the insolvency laws to avoid paying tax, I’d be after them if only to disuade others. A long game mind you but HMRC have time on their side.

Yes, because our “poor” in the West aren’t in danger of starving to death in a ditch.

They have free education, free healthcare, and many enjoy free housing the like of which would seem palatial to most people in the Third World.

They’re quite likely to have Sky TV and mobile phones and X-Boxes.

And when they riot, they don’t riot to steal food or medicine. They steal big screen TV’s and expensive trainers.
