Forrest Feedback Club, Nir ruffling

913

The James Forrest Feedback Club were quiet last night.  I’ve no idea if James will rediscover his form on a sustained basis, or if his limbs will allow him to attain his potential, but it was good to see him running at defenders with confidence again.

He got the measure of John Rankin early on.  Thereafter the United marker could do little more than block James whenever they faced-off.

I’ve been impressed with Dundee United during this series of games.  Fojut held things together remarkably well at Hampden, you can see why we signed him subject to a medical, while Ryan McGowan was clearly their best player at Celtic Park, notwithstanding his late lunge at Liam Henderson.  Well done to McGowan for coming onto Twitter to share apologies and congratulations.

Nadir Ciftci’s swagger reminded me of Jackie Dziekanowski in his latter days as a Celtic player.  He’s probably found his level at United, where he can turn it on at will, but the modern game is looking for something different.

Loved the moment when a fouled Nir Bitton ruffled the hair of his assailant, Aiden Connolly.  Nir is growing by the week, I’m working hard to avoid comparisons.  We’ve not seen much of an edge from him since that, mistimed, tackle against Ajax, but he could do with some of that in-your-face attitude others in the midfield have.

Not been online much since the game, what suspension have the SFA offered Paul Paton after his altercation with Anthony Stokes?

Keep your eyes peeled for a nomad.  They can hide in bins and outhouses.  Check your shed.  Any will do.

I remember that Clyde 9-1 game and I was 6 year old, on my dad’s shoulders at the back of the Celtic end. Went to all home games from age of 3, but that is a standout in my memory along with 6-1 cup final v Hibs.

*when I was 6, I was done in the front of the Jungle with my da behind me watching Charles Patrick, the Juggler, Wee Barra, big Hooky and probably big Jock although I cannae recall the latter.

I was also at the Hibs 6-1 game, that night I was up at the Duck Bay Marina with Mrs. TT singing “Dixie Deans Super Star how many goals have you scored so far”.

But we are much better now than when we played Legia.

I would wager we would beat Legia at this point in the season.

    And also Maribor

tho not both at the same time!

    There is no alternative

We have to live within our means, thats fair enough

Its nice to laugh at arrogant english teams getting dumped out of europe, but lets not get carried away

We will struggle to qualify for the champions league group stages, that said the two young EX Dundee United players are a step in the right direction

I hope you are wrong re CL qualification and only time will tell but football is a funny old game and its supporters a funny bunch whatever next season brings

C’est la vie as they say and we’ll all be cheering on under or over rated players come what may…………….Celtic (womb to the tomb no matter what)

  6. Good evening my fellow Hoops loving Tim’s…

Anyone know the date of the semi final and when the tickets go on sale?? I take it it’ll de at hamdump? HAIL HAIL.

  7. Up over goal,

The current Celtic manager has done similar or better than every Celtic manager in Europe in the last 30 odd years.

I dunno why it sticks in your craw so much.

  8. BIG-CUP-WINNERS on

A few have posted about Ronny’s insight.

He has learned too, a necessary trait. He referenced his mistakes and change a few times, not in a flamboyant way but stated matter of fact manner.

He has made reference to a couple of things ahead: a vocal centre back targeted and that Scepovic needs to get stronger.

I think he’ll give the Serb a run soon

  9. Delaneys Dunky on

    Tontine

I loved Dixie. My dad would counter that with, “You would have loved Joe McBride more!” :)

  10. Ronny is a student of football, and like a lot of managers has studied top level German teams…

How far away are Celtic from being a Wolfsburg??

  11. Memories of George Connolly have so far failed to highlight his goal in the 1969 cup final.

Just before HT John Greig got a ball from the GK on the edge of the box.

GC dispossessed him, rounded the keeper and virtually tapped the ball into the net right in front of the massed celebrations and bedlam in the Celtic end which had been sparked minutes earlier when Lennox had made it 2-0.

  12. I’d say this far away…….

    ———————C.Gordon——————-

    Lustig. Denayer. Van.Dijk. ?? ? ?

I know you are not being flippant,no need to thread on eggshells,Am I that grumpy ??

Thats the way football fans should be,support through thick and thin

we are doing very well know, treble looks on,but unfortunately its European Football we need, and hopefully will get

    Geordie Munro

    Yes we have improved,thank God

  14. Submitted too early

    ———–Broony. Bitton————-

    ????? Johansen. Armstrong

    ————?????????—————-

For me, a left back, another dynamic midfielder to suppliment Johansen and Armstrong, and a Centre forward.

That’s how far away, I think our team is from being in Wolfsburg position and not out of Europe as we currently are.

  15. I reckon we’d beat Maribor if we played them now.

I’m not convinced that we’d beat Legia.

Without doubt progress has been made.

  16. Add to that, Lustig and Matthews can never stay fit, and Denayer and Van.Dijk almost certainly away.

So I’d also say we are a full defensive line away from having a team to compete at top level… And a centre forward

  17. Geordie Munro

The current Celtic manager has done similar or better than every Celtic manager in Europe in the last 30 odd years.

Not really. O’Neill, Strachan, and Lennon all qualified for the CL, and held their own against/beat teams on vastly superior resources.

Ronny has done none of that.

The two teams he lost to had less than half our wages/transfer market values, while in our Europa League group , only Salzburg had comparable finances to ours (although slightly less) and, yes, they beat us convincingly.

  18. What is the Stars

    grumpy, you never :-))))

my worry is that by the time RD gets his formula right he will lose some influential players through injury , transfer, return from loan or whatever and if his contingencies will be enough to get us through early CL qualifiers

    but I live in hope

    HH

  19. Oh dear.

I think the happy clappers are now overdosing and we are comparing players today with celtic legends and ronny with MON etc.

Calm down guys. It’s going well. But let’s not get too carried away eh?????

  20. What is the Stars on

    Hamiltontim

    I agree with you there

When Ronny started I really thought he was clueless and would be a disaster

Thankfully he has got to grips with the Scottish League and looks like he could do a treble,

Lets face it,with Rangers gone,Celtic should be getting trebles every year…

Easier said than done and it would be churlish to not accept that Ronny needs to be congratulated if he gets the treble that Neil Lennon failed to .

However lets see what happens in europe next year.

He may be the new football guru or he may be a fantasist PE teacher who got lucky

I will tell you next August

  21. Come the summer, if we hit the qualifiers with a back 4 of :

    Matthews. Lustig. Mulgrew. Izzy

I’m not sure that’s going to be strong enough…

Big questions marks over the fitness of the 2 right sided players, and big question marks over the quality of mulgrew and izzy.

  22. Dena29 no that’s not just the way it is. For a club with celtics income we should be doing much better. Stop making excuses.

  27. Ronny Topic

Does it not matter that the team are fun to watch ? Of course we are the best in Scotland……..I love to watch our current team play. It’s football played the exciting way.

  28. “Not really. O’Neill, Strachan, and Lennon all qualified for the CL, and held their own against/beat teams on vastly superior resources.”

    Up over,

Yes really. I said in first season.

Although I did post it a massive 16 seconds after original :)

  29. Dena29

There’s plenty of players in and around the Celtic first team, that are sufficient for us to reign supreme in the Scottish Premiership. Kris Commons being one of them. I’ll reserve judgement on GMS until I’ve seen him more often in Europe.

But u asked the question, and Kris Commons doesn’t have the energy, the pace, to trouble opposition on the Europe level.
