Forrest Feedback Club, Nir ruffling

913

The James Forrest Feedback Club were quiet last night.  I’ve no idea if James will rediscover his form on a sustained basis, or if his limbs will allow him to attain his potential, but it was good to see him running at defenders with confidence again.

He got the measure of John Rankin early on.  Thereafter the United marker could do little more than block James whenever they faced-off.

I’ve been impressed with Dundee United during this series of games.  Fojut held things together remarkably well at Hampden, you can see why we signed him subject to a medical, while Ryan McGowan was clearly their best player at Celtic Park, notwithstanding his late lunge at Liam Henderson.  Well done to McGowan for coming onto Twitter to share apologies and congratulations.

Nadir Ciftci’s swagger reminded me of Jackie Dziekanowski in his latter days as a Celtic player.  He’s probably found his level at United, where he can turn it on at will, but the modern game is looking for something different.

Loved the moment when a fouled Nir Bitton ruffled the hair of his assailant, Aiden Connolly.  Nir is growing by the week, I’m working hard to avoid comparisons.  We’ve not seen much of an edge from him since that, mistimed, tackle against Ajax, but he could do with some of that in-your-face attitude others in the midfield have.

Not been online much since the game, what suspension have the SFA offered Paul Paton after his altercation with Anthony Stokes?

Keep your eyes peeled for a nomad.  They can hide in bins and outhouses.  Check your shed.  Any will do.

    I’m with you re: Sky.

Almost signed up for it when the salesgirl told me the Sky dish was ‘on the house’ – till I discovered they wanted circa £50 per month!

I agree, it looks that way to me too. He did himself no favours going to the Dutch press with a come-and-get-me plea to Feyenoord.

But IMO Ronny has performed a minor miracle this season in modernising the culture and style of play at the club while not losing any part of the dressing room.

There were a fair few I was expecting to be away in January, who are still here and are improved players.

I just hope Guidetti smells the coffee! I think when his head and his future is clear, he could be a real player for us.

But if he wants to go, then wrong call John but it’s up to you, thanks and cheerio.

    I disagree

I think Everton would beat us comfortably

Leaving aside my anti Ronny bias I have to admit he has done well recently but the Scottish league is poor and our only real test comes in Europe.

Its easy to laugh when English teams get dumped out of Europe (I enjoy it myself) and I fully accept that the whole EPL thing is madly overhyped but….generally speaking the quality of player playing in the EPL is much better than anything we can afford

Hello again all you young rebels.

Another great result and scintillating football from the bhoys on Wed.

but that D.U. boy Mcgowan’s family need to have a word with him

that tackle on Liam could have been a John Kennedy moment and

Leeds UTD, Liverpool , Man UTD and Blackburn probably thought the same.

Our record against English teams I thinks disproves your thinking.

    But only my opinion mate

  10. The EPL has been found wanting this season in Europe.

The only thing it may cause to happen is people become more aware of the hype and the product loses its appeal for now.

I English team s do well next season all is forgotten.

Sky pay huge sums to that league so it’s in their interest to big up the EPL and denigrate other leagues even when the evidence is to the contrary.

It has monetary value to English teams but the way it is distributed has created an uneven balance.

The games tend to be cautious and fear driven for the bottom 10 teams as the ramifications of relegation are huge.

The thing that strikes me most is how outdated a lot of the coaching is but perhaps the need for instant success makes it harder even for good coaches to implement the necessary changes in tactics and player habits.

I like what Rd’s doing at my beloved Celtic and think this is the way for modern European success but we have to realize our environment though not perfect allows him to get it right.

We are on the verge of great things.

    ****Last Man Standing 4 update*****

We proudly stand at 52 entrants, motoring ever closer to that magic 67 number

Remember tomorrow (Friday) is the last day to register your interest to take part. So thanks to 2 kind CQNers and to tempt you latecomers to join us, we are delighted to announce:

    (1) that any monies raised through LMS4 for Wee Shay Bhoy (not the prize money) will be matched and donated to Shay by a kind CQNer.

    (2) Another CQNer has donated £50 to Shay on the basis that it is used as a buy back for 5 CQNers in the competition. So we are introducing a Joker (quite appropriate really for this blog :-) ) in round 4 and/or round 5, where up to 5 CQNers (cumulatively) that get knocked out in these rounds will be able to claim this joker and qualify for the next round. If more than 5 are disqualified in these rounds, then lots will be drawn to see who are the true jokers :-)

So to get this chance of an extra life you just need to reach round 4. Easy I hear you say :-)

So get yourself registered by sending us an email to cqnlastmanstanding@gmail.com

Thanks again for the wonderful support

I am surprised that Anto was as restrained as he was. Let us see if there is any action taken against the Utd player for assault.

George Connelly? Pure class. In my best ever Celtic team. Also need to consider that we were still a good European team at that point and George was part of that. Big loss to the Scottish World Cup squad when he broke his leg… was it 78?

*1974 against Basle, I was in the Jungle that night and it happened over at that side. a slack pass from Jinky, big George stretches for it and you could hear the crack all over the ground.

BTW it was a brilliant game which we won in extra time.

Best players don’t always equate to best team.

The overpriced best player filled English teams haven’t been the best teams.

Coaching is where teams should spend more to maximize the talent at their disposal.

I think the reason big Nir looks so good this season i splaying with the benefit of a system that suits.

Last year was more difficult for a guy like him as the team had less movement off the ball due to Neils more cautious style so ball retention more difficult.

  33. I would wager we would beat Legia at this point in the season.

    And also Maribor

And people would be foolish to bet against. Both teams’ players have less than twice the market value of Celtic’s.

Then again, they both beat us.

Ronny has failed on every test that actually means anything (i.e. he hasn’t beaten anyone with superior or similar resources).

Celtic vs SPL opposition is akin to Super Ally vs a pie – no competition.

If we do well in Europe next season I’ll take my hat off to Ronny, but all this talk of his detractors eating their words, now that he’s beaten the likes of Dundee Utd (after our much-loved board gave him a leg-up by stripping them of their two remaining stellar talents), is just fan loyalty gone overboard.
