Forrest Feedback Club, Nir ruffling

913

The James Forrest Feedback Club were quiet last night.  I’ve no idea if James will rediscover his form on a sustained basis, or if his limbs will allow him to attain his potential, but it was good to see him running at defenders with confidence again.

He got the measure of John Rankin early on.  Thereafter the United marker could do little more than block James whenever they faced-off.

I’ve been impressed with Dundee United during this series of games.  Fojut held things together remarkably well at Hampden, you can see why we signed him subject to a medical, while Ryan McGowan was clearly their best player at Celtic Park, notwithstanding his late lunge at Liam Henderson.  Well done to McGowan for coming onto Twitter to share apologies and congratulations.

Nadir Ciftci’s swagger reminded me of Jackie Dziekanowski in his latter days as a Celtic player.  He’s probably found his level at United, where he can turn it on at will, but the modern game is looking for something different.

Loved the moment when a fouled Nir Bitton ruffled the hair of his assailant, Aiden Connolly.  Nir is growing by the week, I’m working hard to avoid comparisons.  We’ve not seen much of an edge from him since that, mistimed, tackle against Ajax, but he could do with some of that in-your-face attitude others in the midfield have.

Not been online much since the game, what suspension have the SFA offered Paul Paton after his altercation with Anthony Stokes?

Keep your eyes peeled for a nomad.  They can hide in bins and outhouses.  Check your shed.  Any will do.

  1. EPL now “concentrating” on domestic matters. Overpaid primadonnas.

Think in a lot of ways Saturday’s game will be the most difficult of the fixtures against wee many Jackie’s team.

The cup games are out the road and, perhaps of the four matches this has the least focus.

“In short, EPL is an overpriced, over rated, bloated ego fest….”

    Roberttressell,

Correct. And like games involving the huns we are drawn like moths to the flame.

  5. Evening CQN really enjoying our football just now. The team is growing with each game. Agree with Paul , Nir is playing well and is a first pick, think Efe has played himself into form last few games.

Ronnie will have a difficult selection this weekend with the return of the utd 2 and Stefan

Looking forward to a sat 3pm kick off

    Big cup,

    Ordinarily I’d agree with you.

But after 6 reds, a bit of needle and the utd guys back, I don’t think the bhoys will need much motivating

Thankfully, not according to Ronny, who repeated on the news tonight that the league is always the priority.

However, someone posted earlier that DU don’t need to win, unlike in the cup, so might play differently, and be harder to break down.

Not sure, but I understand all the British clubs are out :-)

Was laughing at the 5 live commentary at 4-1 when Everton hit the bar, when they said “you know Everton aren’t out of this yet!”

Last night the wee man went to his first game with a friend, lots of worrying until he got home. When he phoned, I asked him who was the MOTM, he said Efe Ambrose, when he said that, it was worth all the worrying about him. Delighted for Efe Bhoy.

Looking forward to Saturday, although the wee man may well be going to sit with his pal near the Green Brigade.

  13. I think you’re all missing the point.

It is because the EPL is the greatest league in the world that all the EPL teams are out of Europe’s competitions.

The demands of playing in it have drained the teams of their ability to beat sides who have easy, uncompetitive games to play every week in Spain, Italy, Germany, France, Turkey and Russia.

    Bleedin’ obvious, mate!

  14. Geordie – I’m not. Bores the keech out of me. Must confess I’m more interested in watching the morbidly fascinating decline of Sevco than the EPL. Celtic, Spanish and German clubs for a proper football fix…..

It is a false economy. they are being paid like princes to be mediocre.

It is hard to imagine, given the ungodly amounts of money thrown around in the English game, but if their players/teams were any good, they would stand to make even more money!

Thanks for the links – first time I have seen the goals and the blood.

That Commons – Guidetti 1-2 was a thing of beauty.

    ——————-

I really hope we keep big John. Off form recently, but suspect that has to do with uncertainties regarding his future playing in his head. He strikes me as a heart on the sleeve type of player.

If he commits to us and gets it all settled, I can see him being a huge player for us.

I thought he was a bit selfish when he joined us at first, but now I see that as desperation to make his mark after over a year of no first team football.

Recently, his willingness and ability to hold the ball up and put others through, unselfishly, have really impressed me.

Love his attitude – getting right into McGowan after that scythe of a tackle on Henderson last night.

And no, I am not his agent. Just think he has the makings of a great Celt.

He’ll make a load more money elsewhere but he will never play for a bigger or better club, and I hope he gets that and signs for us.
