CELTIC winger James Forrest has been ruled out for several weeks after sustaining another injury.

The 31-year-old evergreen Hoops star’s hopes have been scuppered of getting a Scotland recall to Steve Clarke’s Euro 2024 squad for the qualifiers against Cyprus and Spain at Hampden this month.

Ange Postecoglou, preparing for the double-header with Hearts which kicks off with a Premiership meeting at Parkhead tomorrow night, said: “James Forrest got a bit of a muscle strain in training, so he is going to be out for a little while, which is unfortunate for him.

“He will miss the next period of games probably beyond the international break.”

Postecoglou, speaking to Celtic TV, added: “Everyone else was okay from the game against St Mirren at the weekend, but I will assess everyone who played on Sunday.

“It’s three games in six days, so we are definitely going to make some changes, whether that’s Wednesday or Saturday, I will see how the squad is.”

After tomorrow night, the Hoops lock horns with Robbie Neilson’s side again at Tynecastle in the 12.15pm start at Tynecastle on Saturday.

Postecoglou has stand-by players such as Sead Haksabanovic, Oh Hyeon-gyu, Tomoki Iwata, David Turnbull and Yuki Kobayashi all ready for a call-up.
