Forster, Samaras and Perth

1353

When I researched yesterday’s article (yes, research does happen sometimes) I was far from encouraged.  Udinese had an impeccable home record and Snr Di Natale is one of Europe’s irresistible strikers at the moment.

We didn’t manage to resist Di Natale but he will remember Fraser Forster for a few years.  We have been fortunate to see a few great goalkeeping performances in Europe in the last decade but last night Fraser was second perhaps only to David Marshall that night in Barcelona.  That last minute penalty save against Hearts on Saturday has moved the player onto a new platform.

Udinese had a good 20 minute spell when they looked every inch the team joint top of the Italian league but they were on the rack in the closing stages of the game.  Cha DuRi has had an eventful Europa League on the road this season.  He was a bit unfortunate at the Udinese goal but completely out of luck when he twisted his body mid-air to volley off the post.

Watching Georgios Samaras last night was a lesson in how complex a game football can be.  This is a player who could not hold down a place in the SPL last season, yet playing in a different position he had top-flight defenders throwing themselves at him in order to inhibit progress.

There is still work to be done, but the return of three first choice defenders will enhance the team considerably.  The most pleasing thing about last night came after the game; Fraser Forster’s focus was immediately on St Johnstone.  It’s all about Perth now.

Issue 5 of CQN Magazine will be out soon.  Hard copies will be available direct, at a considerably reduced cost from our current Magcloud arrangement and with a fast delivery turnaround.  Details soon.

    Banners and flares.

Main point on the news last night!

4 pages of negative slurs on the teletext Celtic news . No match report.

Probably worth speaking to local CSC’s mate – because the game is not on television, I’d expect Celtic’s allocation to be sold out.

And I understand your frustrations. But as you correctly say: “they will make up their own ammunition.”

And for that reason attack has no chance of working. Where do we shame them? They have control of the media and Celtic supporters have no outlet at all. So, any valid points that are made by our supporters will be ignored by the very people who have an agenda against Celtic and set the tone of their reporting.

think it was a 6pm game

were a good few tickets on sale from St J office direct

maybe a few less this time as it is 3pm

but then again, just afore Christmas, maybe a few left

i did go along 2hrs before kick-off tho

hope you get what you’re lookin for

Yes I supportedNeil Lennon when so many were calling for him to go, the boldTom being up there with the loudest of them. Had Celtic stood up for all Celtic Supporters and contested the charge then the numpty would not have ever felt the need to take his fustrations out on UEFA.

  10. Thanks TopCorner,

Think you’re right, will get along early and hope for the best…..my bhoy arrived home a few days earlier than expected from the States hence the last minute rush…..

  14. When have UEFA ever told us what we can and cannot sing although they have said previously that singing about the IRA is no an issue?

When have Celtic PLC ever unequivocally said what we can and cannot sign?

When have Strathclydes finest ever said what we can or cannot sign?

Then the next thingyou know every CelticSupporter around the world is tainted by UEFA’s fine and Celtic PLC do nothing. And they think I’ll be back to give them more of my money?

  15. NegAnon2 Totally agree with your sentiments. Pure scunnered with our manager taking a cheap shot by saying im surprised they got the spelling right.Expect that sort of statement from trayner and his ilk.

    Kitalba,

meant to say thanks for the response yesterday. Didnt get back on to post till later last night.

Dunno if you saw my post too, but for me, Eddie Smith would have been a better “recipient” for the banner than Uefa, but thats just an aside.

As to Lenny’s comments yesterday, I was a bit taken aback at his vehemence to be honest. But I think your are a bit off track if you think he was forced to make those comments.

He may well be singing from the same songsheet (no pun intended!) as the Board, but I cannot see them being able to compel him to make the comments he did. I honestly believe he was seriously angered at the fact that a very good performance from his team was completely overshadowed by the banner and that it could lead to further sanctions against the club…….and has made that anger clear for all to see.

To think otherwise, is to belittle the strength of character of the man.

Good post -you hit the nail on the head a few times there.

Looking forward to the game tomorrow – an opportunity for the GB to do what they are best at -really get behind the team & encourage the whole support focused on 3 points

Three points on Sunday is the big prize….the entire Celtic family must focus…focus…focus….let others will do their level best to distract us they always have and always will.

Remember… we took the top team in Italy to the wire on Thursday nite …and judging by the antics of their coaching staff on the touchline they were rattled

Let’s focus on giving the coaching staff of teams in the spl some serious palpitations over the next few weeks….and their lumpen fans

Focus on the prize – 3 points at a time …3 by 3 by 3 ….that will do for me

  24. There is irrefutable evidence of the media bias against Celtic in this country, therefore why do elements within our support provide them with the ammo to shoot us down. I agree some of the comments from “Corporate Celtic” need to be a bit more measured but the bottom line is without the childish antics of midweek there would have been nothing, nada, but a very good performace to write about.

Neil Lennon would not have had to make any comment if only the club had stood up for the good name of the Celtic Support. They did not, some guy got his wired crossed and took his anger out on UEFA rather than our board. Shame that… shame our board put us all into this situation and Neil Lennon is forced to answer hun questions. All Neil had to say was… no comment. What he said ranks alongside the banners worth.

  27. Tully 57,

I got tickets for Celtic end off St J on wednesday.

    was dark and cold

    we won 5-0

Anyways, a bit worried to see ole GL2 tipping Carlisle to beat Wycombe at home today. Although the chairboys are relegation fodder and it should be an easy 3 points for the Superblues, this is the kind of game Carlisle have struggled with lately.
