Forster, Samaras and Perth

1353

When I researched yesterday’s article (yes, research does happen sometimes) I was far from encouraged.  Udinese had an impeccable home record and Snr Di Natale is one of Europe’s irresistible strikers at the moment.

We didn’t manage to resist Di Natale but he will remember Fraser Forster for a few years.  We have been fortunate to see a few great goalkeeping performances in Europe in the last decade but last night Fraser was second perhaps only to David Marshall that night in Barcelona.  That last minute penalty save against Hearts on Saturday has moved the player onto a new platform.

Udinese had a good 20 minute spell when they looked every inch the team joint top of the Italian league but they were on the rack in the closing stages of the game.  Cha DuRi has had an eventful Europa League on the road this season.  He was a bit unfortunate at the Udinese goal but completely out of luck when he twisted his body mid-air to volley off the post.

Watching Georgios Samaras last night was a lesson in how complex a game football can be.  This is a player who could not hold down a place in the SPL last season, yet playing in a different position he had top-flight defenders throwing themselves at him in order to inhibit progress.

There is still work to be done, but the return of three first choice defenders will enhance the team considerably.  The most pleasing thing about last night came after the game; Fraser Forster’s focus was immediately on St Johnstone.  It’s all about Perth now.

Issue 5 of CQN Magazine will be out soon.  Hard copies will be available direct, at a considerably reduced cost from our current Magcloud arrangement and with a fast delivery turnaround.  Details soon.

I’m a very worried man! Mrs Prestonpans wants me to take her up to Perth, drop her off in the centre, and let her do some shopping while I’m at the footie.

Tomorrow could be a very expensive day :(

  2. Apropos of our PR, wasn’t it said on here some time ago that it was run by a Hearts fan? It most certainly is in need of a thorough overhaul. For a start, I would NOT let any of our players in front of the LL. They will twist their words to suit their own agenda; I would simply provide them with a prepared statement from the CEO and leave it at that, if or until the LL tried to give a proper rendition of what was said. Kenny Dalglish had the right idea; he, like everybody at Celtic Park, must realise we will not get a fair deal as things stand now.

You can buy the album containing that song in HMV or online in any of the main websites like Amazon.

You can advertise the album on television (UTV)

You can advertise a Wolfetones concert in local and national newspapers.

That song is perfectly legal in the free world as things stood up until the point of the investigation.

Had UEFA given Celtic and Celtic fans a warning about that particular song because it contained a chant of 5 words – then ok.

However – we were found guilty of singing a perfectly legal song without warning, without caution and without any consideration of a ‘first offence’

Up to this point there is still no clarification on what can and can not be sung

I mean Celtic play ‘Let the people sing their stories and their song, and the music of their native land. Their lullabies and battle cries and songs of hope and joy’.

That song is merely one of those.

So there was plenty for the board to have appealed about.

Normally you can only be found guilty of something if it has been proved beyond reasonable doubt.

That case couldnt have been more grey – because no one knows what you can and can not sing!?!?

  4. Celtic First ——

    Grazie ! —–

First time I’ve been at a Celtic game since Moscow.

Good day . No hassle . No bother .

An enjoyable game of football. —— being allowed to play football makes all the difference.. Oh -how we need to escape that Spl Hell

Samaras was fabulous for 45 minutes— thereafter they denied him the space. He gave 2 top class Serie A defenders the run around before Udinese twigged how to nullify him..

Catania tomorrow for Catania – Palermo —– big Sicilian Derby —- no away support allowed —-

There will be no shortage of politics , offensive banners, offensive chants or illicit songs . There will be significantly more than 1 firework ———

  5. Our Club could have Tim Bell as their PR man and we’d still get it tight from the LL.

It all boils down to who you support, and who you don’t. Plain and simple

  7. In real news. Kayal to Man U was an absolute no brainer headline. If I was a journo I would have made that one up as well. Thing is James Forrest is the name on every European scouts lips. If only he could stop throwing his arms up when he loses the ball we could get another few million for him in the summer.

Look out for the following headlines in the run up to the 28th

Forster price to high for Celtic

    Spurs in for Forrest

    McCourt wants a move

    Ki to Liverpool

    Wanyama Chelsea bound

Can Celtic fans behave against rangers

Rangers swoop for (insert Rangers minded player who can be tapped up)

  8. I’ve really got to laugh at the niavity of some on here.

Buy a few players???? Dont make me laugh – we might sell a few mind. Havent any of you being paying attention over the last couple of years?

Meanwhile those of you who are praising Lawwell and Lennon for our so called zero tolerance approach are completely missing the point.

Celtic FC is not the Celtic you know and love – it is simply a corporate entity. Whats more it is a corporate entity which shows utter contempt for its customers.

The schism at Celtic is now wider that the grand canyon – and it will grow and grow. Corporate Celtic will not tolerate customers who dont toe the line – so shut up and give them your money.

meanwhile our zero tolerance approach allows the LL to attack us, make up stories and lies to misrepresent us. A massive own goal – we will never get a fair hearing but Corporate Celtic FC has cut adrift their customers.

    To hell with Corporate Celtic…………

  9. The Honest Mistake on

    Auldheid:

    benchmarkingpresent participle of bench·mark (Verb)

    Verb:

Evaluate or check (something) by comparison with a standard: “we are benchmarking our performance against external criteria”.

Evaluate or check something in this way: “we continue to benchmark against the competition”.

Perhaps I’m not making my point clear but for bankier to suggest that Celtic fans, who are so good at self policing that new laws have been introduced to target them, should somehow use the tartan army as the benchmark for self policing is a huge slap in the face to the Celtic fans. If the tartan army faced the same trial by media that faces Celtic then they would be reported for homophobic Jimmy hill chants, racist anti English chants, disrespecting national anthems of opposing nations, lewd conduct in public and that is before I even get to the anti Irish sectarian crap that comes from the rangers supporting contingent. Bankier can get stuffed for suggesting something so insulting and ridiculous.

  10. So, it is the man’s who kept the banner fault! Where is the responsibility of those who lost a lot of money on gadget players who never smelt the grass at Parkhead? Who lost the fight against weak Rangers team?

The banner was stupid and ill advised but not for life ban.

I’m rather dissapointed that people who made that banner have no good sense of humor, no invention.

  11. I just noticed that 9 fans of Dundee United or Dunfermline were arrested for a rammy in Dunfermline town centre- and yet a banner saying the work F*”k gets front page headlines in the Scottish rags- realistically that says more about the motivations of the LL than it does about the Celtic support. Do what needs done- dont give them the ammunition- and dont buy their papers or listen to their stage managed radio shows. Their attacks will worsen the better our team are doing- this is a softer form of attack than was employed last year. But it is a form of attack

    Glasgow IS green and white

  12. Mr Z.

I dont believe the life ban was for displaying the banner.

Most likely it was for the Bhoy who displayed the banner alledgedly assaulting the Celtic steward.

“CELTIC Football Club today confirmed that it has identified an individual responsible for both the displaying of an offensive banner and the assault of a Celtic steward at last night´s match against Udinese.”

“meanwhile our zero tolerance approach allows the LL to attack us, make up stories and lies to misrepresent us.”

    Not true at all.

The media will attack Celtic regardless of what statements the club do or do not make.

To say the club could counter any of this is simply wrong. The agenda has been set in stone for decades.

  15. People……Celtic are a FOOTBALL club.

We, as a collective, may have our origins in Scotland as a result of London politics of the day but we are still a football club (with a difference admittedly)

If you want a political party then join one FFS

How ANYONE can condone or rationalise the actions of people who are ruining the club is beyond belief-there is no justification whatsoever.

Anyone who is a proper Celtic supporter or Roman Catholic has a MORAL OBLIGATION not to vote for the SNP. They are part of the problem not part of the solution.

The Orcs, as the Scottish institutional and cultural football team of choice are dying on their feet, flaying around and trying to wound and kill as many as they can before they go. How else can such comments as “we are going to smash the GB” or “lets even things up here’ etc be explained???

Scotland is the best little country in the world at being SECTARIAN, BIGOTED, SOCIALLY DIVISIVE AND JUST DOWNRIGHT PAROCHIAL

Why help them look better by behaving like them???

  16. Auld Neil Lennon heid:

In 2006 UEFA sasid they had no problem with Celtic fans singing about the IRA, they body swerved and declined to prosecute a similar charge in 2008. When did their (UEFA’s) benchmark drop?

  17. The Crimes of the Celtic Supports ‘Lunatic Fringe’ in the Green Brigade?

Jumping up and down and moving sideways while chanting in support of the team

Singing Irish Rebel Songs (although I am pretty sure other non GBers were at it too and it was happening long before the GB were there)

    Political chanting (kind of)

    em, lighting a flair? Dunno

Writing the F word on a banner about UEFA.

Making and displaying a banner about British War crimes and associated Poppy glorification (misguided in my opinion but I agreed with the sentiment)

    Am I missing anything?

    Things they have not done:

    Commited acts of violence

    Committed acts of REligious bigotry

Been Racist (in fact they have been the opposite – openly anti racist)

    Been Homophobic

Rioted, Rampaged, threatened, bullied, harried or harrassed anyone.

In fact all of the things the GB and the Celtic support in general have NOT done are the exact things that Rangers supporters DID do for many many years. The worst football violence at a

European match for years (including a stabbing INSIDE the stadium where the final was played) was greeted with hand wringing from UEFA who claimed they could do nothing and Rangers got away scot free. This is the same UEFA who might well be offended enough by the F word on a banner to punish Celtic!

Well, to be fair F^&% UEFA if that is indeed the case.

A young, vibrant, progressively minded group of football supporters modelled on similar groups of anti Fascist left leaning football supporters across Europe – of course they were going to be victimised, demonised and vilified. Neil Lennon, while claiming to prefer to talk about football could well have done just that and said ‘ask someone else those questions’. He has made a mistake in even mentioning it.

  18. KitAlba – what is the name of the Scottish guy seconded to UEFA from the SFA? He of course wouldn’t have anything to do with changing the way UEFA approach Celtic would he…………………………………

  19. Marrakesh Express on

    Parkheadcumsalford.

Ive been saying for years that dalglish had the right idea as did mon and wgs. The LL have only one agenda and that is to sell papers to the majority. This is usually done at our expense. Cut them off and treat them as they treat us, with contempt.

    Hh

  20. MWD:

I think it should be black with a white coffin wrapped in barbed wire on it. And a dead white dove below.

  21. Stein – you are correct – but the people who run corporate celtic are allowing the lies to be said and arent challenging or fighting back – the worst example of that was the BBC during the scottish cup final – to allow that to go unchallenged is utterly contemptable.

The differences in how Rangers and Celtic get treated by the media, SFA, Police etc is now incredible – and yet the corporate monkeys say nothing.

They are cutting the support adrift.

We should now sing our sings and protest against all of this – to hell with Lawwell – he is a coward and a failure on every level. To hell with Lennon – we fought for him during last season against all the bigotry and he hasnt got the guts to fight back against it either.

So lets get the banners out there and the songs and bring it on – lets get a proper debate going.

  22. Summa:

Let’s wait and see how much we obstruct newco huns getting straight back into the league and whether we inaugurate them (the newco huns) into the newco old firm in the States.

  23. Incidentally if you are a policeman and want to arrest me for me views please let me know and I will give you my address

  24. RobertTressell:

I know who you are reffering to but you would expect none the less from him. What we should not forget in all of this is the fact that the huns were lauded for their celebration of culture at the League Cup Final. Where was Eddie the Eagle then?

  25. I support The Green Brigade, I support the right of anyone to sing a historical ballad in fact to sing any ballad. However I am a pragmatist any campaign needs to be well thought out and planned. The lads who displayed the banner and brought in the flares were totally out of order it was a stupid ill conceived idea. I hate to see any lad who supports Celtic get in trouble and I hate to see lads banned for life, also some of the stuff coming out of the Club would make you cringe. We badly need someone or some supporters body to step in as mediators, to try & mend fences. We need atmosphere at Celtic Park, we are entitled to give expression to our traditions, we deserve a board and a team that appreciates us and all we give to the Club. We need to stop attacking each other, confront the situation that we are faced with and emerge stronger and more determined then ever.
