Further confirmation of where we are

472

The reaction to points dropped yesterday was not on the same level as the disappointment after we similarly rescued a point against Hibs late on the game or went out of the League Cup last week, this one was expected by all and did no more than provide further confirmation of where we are.

This run of two wins in 12 games will eventually end, but by then it will be too late – possibly too late to see off Hearts in the Scottish Cup Final.  In 11 games between now and February, only two are outside Glasgow, short journeys to Hamilton and Paisley, and we have no international fixtures to contend with, but as St Johnstone, Ross County and others have established, that is no comfort.

St Johnstone’s goal was unlike our most in our recent glut.  The defence was briefly in position before breaking into a moment’s disorganisation, Frimpong rushed forward, leaving May unattended, Kane reacted while his marker, Bitton, looked the other way.  Neither Celtic player demonstrated defensive instincts.

Not that the defence is to blame.  The volume of good chances was insufficient to convince anyone a Celtic goal was coming and those that came were missed by our once-prized asset.  The equaliser had more than a touch of good fortune about it.  Whatever ails Celtic, it is not limited to the back line.

Unfair. He had to cut his cloth with a very limited national side but at Stoke this season in a 24 team league, only Norwich and Reading have won more games and only four sides have scored more goals.

Nobody will convince me he isn’t a step up from what we have right now and what we might possibly see in the future.

Mike Bassett would be a step up right now….

  2. Part of the statement “will. Support Neil and HIS back room staff “ it is not his.back room staff As he did not choose them

  3. We’re gonna need bigger pitchforks !

Only people celebrating that statement tonight are the Huns and the Fundamentalist Followers of Lennon’s church of the Sieve.

  4. Does anyone think that our current manager backed with 50 million in the transfer window and double the current wage structure could win the league this season?

    I don’t.

We are sailing into a dark period in our timeline.

Clearly the custodians of our club are not as concerned as we are.

I will be delighted to be proved wrong but all I can see in our future is second place finishes and continued European debacles .

  5. Good wishes to those who will attend the AGM and protest at the current running of the club.

Brendan Rodgers was the logical step for a club enjoying its generation of domination and he in fact took that domination up to the highest level ever in Scotland, however he struggled in Europe. Nobody knows the ins and outs of his departure and we couldn’t worry about it then. Lenny came in. Gerrard’s team were still a bit green and we held onto the hegemony. Performances in Europe were irregular under Lenny and despite beating Lazio he couldn’t reach O’ Neills or even Strachan’s heights. Then came the virus. The club’s initial stance was to offer itself as some kind of charity to bolster the NHS, which I am sure has benefitted many people don’t get me wrong, but it was grandstanding at a time when it might have better to keep your head down. All of us are keeping our heads down, in various stages of lockdown. Solidarity begins at home and we have not been solid in looking after our own. What happened to Boli was disgraceful ; mobbing, bullying call it what you will. When you see him later helping a team qualify for the CL then it’s like a slap on the face. That parochialism is what is ailing Celtic, we have got sucked into the domestic debate and everybody is turned onto “ten in a row”, me included!! The fans who have been around Parkhead live these debates every day and have followed the team home and away. They are not being allowed to protest and frustrations break out. Like Boli, they are now getting slaughtered from all quarters. Has anybody at Sky seen the scale of the riots in Paris last week? Or in recents years? Much ado about nothing with the usual media leeches pontificating. But Celtic continue to come up with their own bad news as Karamoko is considered surplus to requirements. Aye it could be lazy journalism but he should have been given a game months ago. Scunnered I am to be honest.

  6. Go tell the Spartim on

So the theory is that we’ll give those that have wasted a fortune in the summer another chance to buy better.

faults in that theory first one is that it’s too late for that now and secondly he won’t play them and if he does it’ll be out of position.

They go from one clusterf*** to another in a totally patronising manner.

We’re not in this together they bask in a lifestyle from our cash and only ever talk about we, when they want something have you ever heard them stick up for us……………

GEEBEE1978 – so a new manager changes ALL of that??

    ————————————————————————————————

No guarantees and a lot depends on who that new manager is but if you’ve been watching the same Celtic games I’ve been watching, we barely look like beating anyone right now.

  12. I don’t believe for one second, The Board believe that Neil and his Backroom Staff can turn this around. Their ‘ bigging up’ of him is also unconvincing. The cold hard evidence is entirely at odds with that Statement.

This suits both parties to play out this way.

The Board have been caught short and have no plan B and are either unwilling or unable to source and support a new Manager and Neil clings on for his final pay off……….not quite believing in his heart of hearts, The Boards ongoing remarkable support.

  13. Probably the worst statement since Neville Chamberlain stood waving a piece of paper in the air declaring”Peace in our time”.

  14. onenightinlisbon on

A Sevco supporting friend just text me saying this “there must be masons on that board”……

  15. what genius of a manager could have prevented the following?

Manage players who don’t want to be there

Fixed Players not available for selection due to COVID – Boli , Biton, El Hamed, Christie, Turnbull and EDUARD!

Injuries to key players – Forrest, Jullien, Grifiths,

Refs allowing players to kick us off the park – how many karate kicks got only yellow so far?

Made Duffy , Ajeti and Barkas better players?

Meanwhile rangers get penalties galore, play against teams weakened due to covid , play against teams who get the customary yellows early to soften their game etc..

They are better and we have been a combination of unlucky as well as had an awful preseason in terms of player planning.

Sometimes factors beyond your control have a significant affect on the outcome – Anyone see the lad who won the F1 yesterday?

  16. When the CEO briefed against the previous incumbent manager so his narrative would triumph ( he should have been sacked ). From that day he never looked back with his shower appointment of someone not capable on doing the job on a permanent basis. He has destroyed the club with his dual CEO / DOF role.

His support to the SFA on RES12 while lying to Celtic fans in his office with kid on letters to the SFA shows what a snake he is. His support to sevco and SPFL meant he wanted the return of the bigot pound and the missing 10mil which would help secure bonus and LTIP payout ( with acquiescence of Tom Allison and Remcom) with a low bar. Lawwell has used Celtic as his personal ATM looting 20mil out of club.

He has continued since that briefing day against Rodgers to exploit every situation to his personal advantage rather than the club who employs him. Celtic are in a negative spiral until the parasite is removed. Lennon going will change nothing.

Desmond equally culpable and he would better sticking to the golf and selling up.

Getting rid of Lawwell will have the Jock Brown effect. Would do it on Hogmanay.

  17. GEEBEE – YES SIR! Thats why I wanted Lennon replaced weeks ago – to give the team a lift and freshness and hope it worked.

but the issues are much much deeper than just coaching – I personally don’t think we have the personnel – we are the softest quietest I can recall

  18. STEBHOY on 7TH DECEMBER 2020 8:45 PM

You’re right. What am I thinking? All the players are desperate to sweat blood for Lennon, he’s an absolute tactical genius and if it wasn’t for Covid and a couple of injuries to the most expensive squad in the country (by far), Real Madrid would be in touch with his people.

He had virtually a first team to pick from (bar one or two) and lost comfortably at home to Ross Co, couldn’t beat St Johnstone and was thumped twice by a bang average Sparta team who had their own (worse) Covid and injury problems.

Time to take the blinkers off and see what everyone else sees – he needs to go.

Bri Sou game is good. Watch the passing from both sides. Not to feet. Both teams passing in front of the player to run on to or into space for a tam mate to run on to

  21. A towering header by the centre back at the corner for a great goal. When’s the last time……..?

  22. No Bobby Does It Petta on

“The Board continues to work closely with Neil and his team to support them as they seek to do so and progress will be reviewed in the new year.”

So, NL will be in place regardless of results in the remaining games in December?

    Absolutely mental.

  23. Notwithstanding a few tankings from Europe’s elite, 2 CL group stages and 2 last 32 Europa is not struggling those are the glory days. Record bank balances.

Now 2 tankings of Sparta and most conceded goals in all groups, that’s not struggling either, that’s a crisis and an embarrassment.

Apologies for the tone of my last post.

That statement today has left me fuming and what was supposed to be a glorious season of celebration is turning into a disaster.

But no need to take it out on other posters…apologies.

  25. This is beyond incompetence. It almost looks like the Celtic board are deliberately laying waste to any flickering chance of winning the 10.

  26. Is our new manager currently with a team still in the EL or CL and won’t come until Groups are concluded? Wishful thinking?

  27. SOUTHSIDE on 7TH DECEMBER 2020 8:59 PM

I’ve given up on the ten. I fear now for the treble. A couple of my Hearts supporting mates are desperately hoping Lennon stays in charge for the final. Speaks volumes.

Anyone on here think it’s a given?

  28. Stebhoy

Excuses, excuses, excuses, where your argument falls down is that record breaking players, serial winners, are all simultaneously shadows of the players they are.

Wake up the player’s have lost all confidence they have chucked it.

Its nothing to do with entitlement its knowing that without change of manager and staff the pain will only continue, probably even worsen.

A decent manager will get an improvement out of these same players overnight, I’m willing to bet you whatever you choose.

I mentioned it on Sunday, dont know if anyone else did, what kind of state is our pitch in.Horrendous.3 million quid, and its never been right.Gonna be a lot of lifting again close season. The pitch, and around 6 players by Taxis to Glasgow airport. All driven free, into the bargain,if Twitter is to be believed.
