George Peat still casting shadow

1187

Predicting what is about to happen in Scottish football is a bit of an art.  We all realise that just about everyone has an agenda, so the first thing most of us do is ignore whatever overt line is being promoted by one or two sources of ill-repute, especially when they suggest that Sevco will definitely play football in the SFL First Division next season.

So far around 11 clubs have intimated they will vote against this proposal while only Stenhousmuir, the very club that stepped forward to give former SFA president George Peat a seat of the board after he completed his work with Airdrieoneans, have offered the Loyal support.

Apart from Stenhousmuir, only Stewart Regan and Neil Doncaster seem keen on the idea of allowing Sevco to start their sporting life in two levels up from the bottom.

Ally McCoist spoke some wise words to online channel, Rangers TV (current ownership model unclear).  Having gained some first-hand managerial experience against Falkirk last season, McCoist knows that First Division football would give Sevco no guarantee of promotion.  He complained that he has only six first team players at the moment, although didn’t add “and they are rubbish”.

There is also the suspicion that Sevco are not shifting a lot of season tickets, income levels could be acutely low, and their potential fans appear to have no more appetite for a grubby accommodation than anyone else.  Apart from Stenhousmuir, Regan and Doncaster, of course.

McCoist addressed the prospect of additional punishments to be handed to Sevco for the misdemeanours of Rangers as a further reason to go straight to the bottom of the pile, however, he didn’t touch on the obvious point.

The only way Sevco are going to avoid penalties for Rangers EBT behaviour is if the former club is found to have acted correctly, or if Sevco make no claims to inherit Rangers club licence, name, badge or other unique identifiers.

Anyway, we have Inter Milan, Real Madrid and the Champions League qualifiers to look forward to. Bring them on!

Cowan objectively asking for archies views…..he cannae remember the question

Next week the Greek Phil will be on

  4. To be fair to Archie, wrong though he is in certain opinions, he is facing Two to one odds in going against two presenters.

Obviously Archie is brighter than 4 Tam Cowans but Cosgrove is his equal.

Archie is more in favour of Scottish football continuing as it is rather than pro-Rangers per se, but, in this case, he is finding it difficult to separate these in his mind.

Every word Archie utters is compromised. I think therapy would be more helpful than medication.

The huns power-point presentation to the meeting of the SPL is intriguing to say the least.

One thing I don’t think….is that Charlie Green is stupid.

Handing Celtic a differently bound presentation than everyone one else was obviously calculated….as was the “we were rangers” (ok so I made a slight editorial change) bit at the end but you get the drift.

Charlie knew what the reaction would be….so why did Charlie do it? Hmmmm?

    —-

Because his interest is not in participating in a football competition, nor managing a football club. His interest is to asset strip all that remains of RFC IA for the biggest buck. The failure to obtain top flight football will give him a reason for selling off the assets to the highest bidder (as the alternative is for Sevco to go into administration) and he walks away with a few million quid profit.

What gets me is if football is part of the social fabric of the nation why are Sky allowed by Government to rip the fabric in the northern part to shreds?

Are Cameron and Salmond so afraid of Murdoch they are afraid to pressure Sky to be more socially responsible?

Market forces are great for providing drive but social resonsibilty is required to stop those forces driving us off the cliff.

Erchie is definitely out of touch and he’s probably proud of that. He sees himself as a traditionalist willing to defend old values.

And you’re right, he was a boyhood/ early adulthood bluenose but not a hun. He was willing to admire Celtic’s football in the 60s and not just a Stein admirer.

My father always referred to him as “up Ronnie… up”. Commentating on a Rangers v Falkirk game in the 60’s with the game at 1-1. With only minutes left and Falkirk pressing they got a corner. Rangers had a guy called Ronnie Mackinnon playing for them. My father swore that as the corner came into the rangers’ box, Archie shouted “Up Ronnie…up”.

  23. Interesting snippet from down south.

Tal Ben Haim, who is still contracted to Portsmouth due to play in Div. One (3rd tier) next season, is on a £38k per week contract.

We are long overdue a few English clubs suffering a liquidation event. They deserve it for the Darwinian stupidity of having ‘Arry Redknapp as manager.

  24. ‘Elite’ footballing finance is a bubble waiting to pop. As always, football lags that wee bit behind society in general, and we all know what’s happening in the real world.
