George Peat still casting shadow

1187

Predicting what is about to happen in Scottish football is a bit of an art.  We all realise that just about everyone has an agenda, so the first thing most of us do is ignore whatever overt line is being promoted by one or two sources of ill-repute, especially when they suggest that Sevco will definitely play football in the SFL First Division next season.

So far around 11 clubs have intimated they will vote against this proposal while only Stenhousmuir, the very club that stepped forward to give former SFA president George Peat a seat of the board after he completed his work with Airdrieoneans, have offered the Loyal support.

Apart from Stenhousmuir, only Stewart Regan and Neil Doncaster seem keen on the idea of allowing Sevco to start their sporting life in two levels up from the bottom.

Ally McCoist spoke some wise words to online channel, Rangers TV (current ownership model unclear).  Having gained some first-hand managerial experience against Falkirk last season, McCoist knows that First Division football would give Sevco no guarantee of promotion.  He complained that he has only six first team players at the moment, although didn’t add “and they are rubbish”.

There is also the suspicion that Sevco are not shifting a lot of season tickets, income levels could be acutely low, and their potential fans appear to have no more appetite for a grubby accommodation than anyone else.  Apart from Stenhousmuir, Regan and Doncaster, of course.

McCoist addressed the prospect of additional punishments to be handed to Sevco for the misdemeanours of Rangers as a further reason to go straight to the bottom of the pile, however, he didn’t touch on the obvious point.

The only way Sevco are going to avoid penalties for Rangers EBT behaviour is if the former club is found to have acted correctly, or if Sevco make no claims to inherit Rangers club licence, name, badge or other unique identifiers.

Anyway, we have Inter Milan, Real Madrid and the Champions League qualifiers to look forward to. Bring them on!

I was born and brought up in Ayrshire I used to think it was the most bitter anti catholic place in Scotland. Then I moved to Stirlingshire and found it worse places like Plean and Fallin even the rides in the childrens play parks are painted orange and purple we live in a bigoted wee Country.H.H.

  2. 2 elderly Catholic priests are heading for Glasgow on marching day when they get lost and end up in Larkhall. They decide to go to the local hostelry, The Sash and Lily, for a wee refreshment. The pub is empty, as all the regulars are away to the walk. “2 pints of Guinness please”, they ask the barman. He nips through to the lounge and phones the owner telling him about the 2 priests wanting a beer. The owner asks if any of the locals are in, the barman tells him they`re all away at the walk, so the owner tells them to serve them this once. Half an hour later they ask for another 2 pints. Again the barman phones the owner to ask his advice. When hearing the locals are still away the owner tells him to serve them, but charge them double. He does, and the priests pay up no problem. Another half hour passes, another 2 pints asked for, the barman phones the owner and gets the same response. Charges the priests £10 per pint. This goes on all afternoon, every time they ask for 2 pints the barman doubles the price. Later in the afternoon the barman looks out of the window and sees in the distance the locals making their way back. Just then the priests ask for 2 more pints. The barman phones the owner and says, “I keep doubling the price but they`ve just ordered another 2 pints and the lads are coming back.” The owner says “lock the doors and don`t let the Orange B*stards in”

A few bolts of lightning would be welcome as well. I’ve got this mental picture of burst drums, melted flutes and smoke rising from a few charred sashes and bowlers……and nuthin else left!

I posted on here about that 3-1 game a wee while back. Was in the Jungle that night. Unforgettable. Only bettered for me by the 65 Final, Lisbon and Anfield, when Big Bad John scored one of the best goals ever.

Yea great win. I was up the Celtic End that night.

As much as Lisbon stands alone the the 65 Cup Final was the beginning of something truly special and I think we all felt it at the time.

The 2-1 Leeds game at Hampden was another very special night. We were imperious that night and the crowd was massive. I’ve been in huge crowds watching Celtic many times but I can’t remember the Celtic End ever being so packed. It was scary that night. It was a great pity we didn’t finish the job in the final.

    Ah…the memories!

  6. A message of clarification to all the chairmen of the SFL clubs:

Your decision to on who to admit to the SFL should be carried out purely on the merits of the applicants. The repercussions for clubs whose application you reject are not your concern.

This season should not be treated differently to any other season.

If there are repercussions for not choosing one club over another, that should not be your concern.

Assess each application on its own merits – according to the rules.

Scotland expects nothing more, nothing less.

Do that and no-one can question your integrity.

  8. Raith Rovers Friday 06/07/12 – this one is worth reposting

The club has this evening received the notice of resolutions to be voted on next Friday and we are told to expect an information pack at some time next week. We hope that this pack will present a more balanced report to SFL member clubs than they have so far received.

At last Tuesday’s meeting, financial information provided by Neil Doncaster showed an unrealistic worst case scenario. It showed the impact of potential total loss of 3 TV contracts, all of which had been inexplicably agreed on the basis that the broadcaster could walk away if either Rangers or Celtic were not in the SPL. His information did not, however, set out the potentially positive impact of negotiating replacement contracts with other broadcasters or alternatively the much mentioned possibility of launching SPL TV (which we understand could have been launched within a matter of months).

Mr Doncaster warned SFL members that if these contracts were indeed lost, this would mean the annual payment to the SFL under the Settlement Agreement would either be greatly reduced or not paid at all. Raith Rovers FC believes this not to be the case, and that the SPL would remain both contractually obliged and able to pay the £1.9m – £2m annual sum, even in that worst case scenario. We call upon the SFL Board to clarify its view on this vital point urgently, before club boards finalise their positions on these important votes.

We are also concerned that there has not as yet been an opportunity for clubs to receive legal advice from the SFL and/or debate the potential consequences on the smooth running of our league in the event that the Courts are asked to annull/strike down any of the corporate transactions that have led to the current position of Sevco Scotland Ltd as owners of certain assets of the Rangers oldco. Indeed, the position as regards the potential sanctions to be applied by the Scottish FA via its Appellate Tribunal has also still to be bottomed out. In summary, we remain concerned that the SPL clubs have overwhelmingly voted to pass on this potential time bomb, which may yet explode once passed to the SFL’s jurisdiction, and we are being asked to accept this new company into membership, worse still in our top division.

Without all of this information, and the opportunity for clubs to further discuss these issues on a fully informed basis amongst themselves before the formal SGM, in a similar format to last Tuesday’s meeting, we are concerned that the fairness and transparency of the process itself is at risk of being compromised.

Raith Rovers FC will consider its stance with regard to attendance at this meeting once we receive the information from the SFL.

Ahh perfect day for the marching. At least they are jetting their annual wash free.

  11. The “Who Do You Think You Are” series, recently featured the Scottish actor David Tennant, of Dr Who fame………… The programmed uncovered some murky episodes in what looked like a very decent, upstanding, normal Scots Protestant family’s history.

Apparently one of David’s rellies was in the Oranj ordure and he was whisked over to Belfast to be shown round one of those gothic gargoyle OO halls.

He was met by a lilliputian ‘member’ of the Order who attempted to get David to don one of those “collarettes” that the bowler-hattted brigade wear…………………

………………..the look on Davids face and his perfectly reasonable derision of the sectarian organisation confirmed my opinion of the actor as a decent cove…….despite his Dr Who performances……………..

I love to holiday in July. I cannot remember the last time I had the grave misfortune to have that scum pollute the same air that I breathe.

Tsatsiki, Aubergine salad, Greek yoghurt with peach jam for lunch. 35c in the shade.

RayBans and PizBuin on, back to the beach, afternoon dip in the Aegean, spend the evening with Stamatis and friends, Greek music and dancing.

    Why we work all year.

I dont know why, but despite my determination to get over to more games than I would otherwise have, and possibly more games than I can afford to next season to support Celtic, as I am positive thousands of others will – I still cant buy into this £50 jersey for 1 season lark.

The new home one is a tribute kit – received the wee pack in the post from Celtic advertising them, and they are all 1 year kits.

With as much will as there is in my heart to support Celtic – I just feel this is too tacky and cheap commercialism. I feel sorry for those with 3-4 kids who dont get the fact they will be replaced so quickly – they just demand the latest gear (and then more)

I hope im not alone on this one!?

  19. bournesouprecipe,

Another great statement from Raith. I particularly like the ticking time bomb and the fact that they remind the SPL that they are contractually obliged to make the annual payment. This implies to me a threat of court action if they fail to meet their contractual obligation.

I never had any trouble with my kids in not updating their strips every year. They never demanded it nor expected it and neither did their friends who were Celtic minded, as far as I could see.

I think if kids feel they deserve the best of everything then the root cause of that lies elsewhere than Celtic’s commercial department.
