George Peat still casting shadow

1187

Predicting what is about to happen in Scottish football is a bit of an art.  We all realise that just about everyone has an agenda, so the first thing most of us do is ignore whatever overt line is being promoted by one or two sources of ill-repute, especially when they suggest that Sevco will definitely play football in the SFL First Division next season.

So far around 11 clubs have intimated they will vote against this proposal while only Stenhousmuir, the very club that stepped forward to give former SFA president George Peat a seat of the board after he completed his work with Airdrieoneans, have offered the Loyal support.

Apart from Stenhousmuir, only Stewart Regan and Neil Doncaster seem keen on the idea of allowing Sevco to start their sporting life in two levels up from the bottom.

Ally McCoist spoke some wise words to online channel, Rangers TV (current ownership model unclear).  Having gained some first-hand managerial experience against Falkirk last season, McCoist knows that First Division football would give Sevco no guarantee of promotion.  He complained that he has only six first team players at the moment, although didn’t add “and they are rubbish”.

There is also the suspicion that Sevco are not shifting a lot of season tickets, income levels could be acutely low, and their potential fans appear to have no more appetite for a grubby accommodation than anyone else.  Apart from Stenhousmuir, Regan and Doncaster, of course.

McCoist addressed the prospect of additional punishments to be handed to Sevco for the misdemeanours of Rangers as a further reason to go straight to the bottom of the pile, however, he didn’t touch on the obvious point.

The only way Sevco are going to avoid penalties for Rangers EBT behaviour is if the former club is found to have acted correctly, or if Sevco make no claims to inherit Rangers club licence, name, badge or other unique identifiers.

Anyway, we have Inter Milan, Real Madrid and the Champions League qualifiers to look forward to. Bring them on!

  1. Only correction to the article I’d suggest is that Div 1 isn’t 2 up from the bottom. Ask the highland league clubs, South of Scotland league clubs and the East of Scotland league clubs.

all of which are entitled to make an application to join SFL in div 3.

Why newco are even being entered in div 3 when others have played by the rules and have 3 years of accounts for auditing is beyond me.

In fact, it’s not beyond me….I know exactly why it’s happening!

I hope my post from last blog didn’t sounds like I was picking you up for conflating Sevco with Rangers! Not my intention at all mate. I am frustrated that the MSM do not make this distinction clearly though. Listened to real radio the other night and almost every point of discussion failed to make the distinction which simply led to utter confusion and no small lack of clarity.

Over at Leggoland, everybody’s favourite urea-soaked Harpic-guzzling scribbler thinks the rest of Scottish football is full of hate-filled bigots out to get poor “Rangers”.

Coincidentally, paranoia can be a symptom of chronic alcoholism. (thumbsup)

So far we have 11 clubs against 2 abstaining and 1 for newco into division 1. We need to let SFL chairmen know we don’t want this #DeadDuck

They’re owed cash by Rangers FC.

Don’t go expecting Sevco to pay Rangers FC’s bills, nothing to do with them. The “We Are Rangers” bit only applies when they’re begging for handouts and special favours, it doesn’t apply to meeting Rangers’ obligations. (thumbsup)

  15. Whislt out on lunch i spotted the following ET billboard

“Top Ref: I will miss Old Firm games”

There is so much wrong with that headline, i don’t know where to start

  19. Zbyszek @ 13.05,

I realise that Paul can’t monitor every posting: it did occur to me that that might be why the bad language rule ISN’T applied consistently.

I wasn’t getting at Paul, just exchanging experiences with hen1!rik: the notion that there are a privileged few on here wasn’t mine, but it did appear to make some sense.

BTW you posted some days ago about Madrid (I’m sure you meant Madrid) needing a 10-lane highway through the middle: I’m all in favour of 10-lane highways, but Madrid has an excellent & extensive Underground – or did have 11 years ago.

  20. From FIFAs rule book

9.1. – A clubs entitlement to take part in a domestic league championship shall depend principally on sporting merit. A club shall qualify for a domestic league championship by remaining in a certain division or by being promoted or relegated to another at the end of a season.

    9.3.

Altering the legal form or company structure of a club to facilite its qualification on sporting merit and/or its receipt of a licence for a domestic league championship, TO THE DETRIMENT OF THE INTEGRITY OF A SPORTS COMPETITION IS PROHIBITED. This includes, for example changing the headquarters, CHANGING THE NAME OR TRANSFERRING STAKEHOLDINGS BETWEEN DIFFERENT MEMBER CLUBS. Prohibitive decisions must be able to be examined by the Members body of appeal.
