George Peat still casting shadow

1187

Predicting what is about to happen in Scottish football is a bit of an art.  We all realise that just about everyone has an agenda, so the first thing most of us do is ignore whatever overt line is being promoted by one or two sources of ill-repute, especially when they suggest that Sevco will definitely play football in the SFL First Division next season.

So far around 11 clubs have intimated they will vote against this proposal while only Stenhousmuir, the very club that stepped forward to give former SFA president George Peat a seat of the board after he completed his work with Airdrieoneans, have offered the Loyal support.

Apart from Stenhousmuir, only Stewart Regan and Neil Doncaster seem keen on the idea of allowing Sevco to start their sporting life in two levels up from the bottom.

Ally McCoist spoke some wise words to online channel, Rangers TV (current ownership model unclear).  Having gained some first-hand managerial experience against Falkirk last season, McCoist knows that First Division football would give Sevco no guarantee of promotion.  He complained that he has only six first team players at the moment, although didn’t add “and they are rubbish”.

There is also the suspicion that Sevco are not shifting a lot of season tickets, income levels could be acutely low, and their potential fans appear to have no more appetite for a grubby accommodation than anyone else.  Apart from Stenhousmuir, Regan and Doncaster, of course.

McCoist addressed the prospect of additional punishments to be handed to Sevco for the misdemeanours of Rangers as a further reason to go straight to the bottom of the pile, however, he didn’t touch on the obvious point.

The only way Sevco are going to avoid penalties for Rangers EBT behaviour is if the former club is found to have acted correctly, or if Sevco make no claims to inherit Rangers club licence, name, badge or other unique identifiers.

Anyway, we have Inter Milan, Real Madrid and the Champions League qualifiers to look forward to. Bring them on!

Pity you’ve got a sore foot!!

  5. An SPL chairman who was present at the meeting said last night: “The brochure was very unimpressive and even more so because the wee diddy clubs got copies that were stapled together, but Celtic’s was spiral bound.

“It was also more than unfortunate that they were open at the page which referred to the voluntary transfer embargo when somebody got an alert on their Blackberry to say that Ian Black had announced he would sign for Rangers if they were accepted into the SPL.”

  6. Thank you for your contributions to CQN over the years Lurgan 53 and may you rest in peace. Thoughts to family and friends.

I was wetting myself when I saw their presentation document. I get the pee ripped from me at work for poor IT skills, but I would never have shown that to the works cat, let alone use it a bullwark for a presentation. If someone at KDS had created a spoof document they could not have topped it, the back page summed it up.

Now , my suspicions are as to why an uber-Hun like Forsyth would want it out in the public domain?

  9. Gordon Smith on 5 live said “if they’re going to be in league 1 in order to try and help everyone out but they’re going to be hit with a lot of sanctions on that basis then they’re believing they should go to division three.”

So rangers, not this new club we hear about are actually going to help everyone out.

Why are all the clubs being so mean to them?

Who is this ‘Rang#rs’ that still feature on the iShortbread SPL web page?

  15. Why are people still talking about the ‘punishment’ that has been dished out to Rangers?

We hear about 10 point deductions, a 3 year ban from European football etc etc

These are NOT punishments!!! Rangers were docked 10 points in accordance with the rules of the SPL – rules that they themselves voted in.

There is no 3 year ban from European competition. The Newco has not been around long enough to qualify for European football because they cannot present 3 years worth of audited accounts to show that they are financially sound.

    There has been NO punishment!!!

  16. Why don’t we start the Intergrity Cup a closed season event which would see invited lower league clubs (apart from Tecso FC) play an SPL host with a large portion of the funds going back to the non SPL teams.

We could make it an annual event or play them during international breaks.

gordybhoy64 – I usually feel a wee bit sorry for Michael Kelly. He comes across as a rather melancholy character.

My sense of pity does evaporate rather quickly when he says things like the current Celtic squad is “substandard” and that Celtic “needs” Rangers. (thumbsup)

  18. l scottish football will never have any credability until it rids itself of. Regan. Doncaster .and most of all ogilvie . The only reason I can think of that they are still. in office is that operation save rangers is still some way to go . I also cant understand why eufa .and the other boys in blue havent gotten involved .
