George Peat still casting shadow

1187

Predicting what is about to happen in Scottish football is a bit of an art.  We all realise that just about everyone has an agenda, so the first thing most of us do is ignore whatever overt line is being promoted by one or two sources of ill-repute, especially when they suggest that Sevco will definitely play football in the SFL First Division next season.

So far around 11 clubs have intimated they will vote against this proposal while only Stenhousmuir, the very club that stepped forward to give former SFA president George Peat a seat of the board after he completed his work with Airdrieoneans, have offered the Loyal support.

Apart from Stenhousmuir, only Stewart Regan and Neil Doncaster seem keen on the idea of allowing Sevco to start their sporting life in two levels up from the bottom.

Ally McCoist spoke some wise words to online channel, Rangers TV (current ownership model unclear).  Having gained some first-hand managerial experience against Falkirk last season, McCoist knows that First Division football would give Sevco no guarantee of promotion.  He complained that he has only six first team players at the moment, although didn’t add “and they are rubbish”.

There is also the suspicion that Sevco are not shifting a lot of season tickets, income levels could be acutely low, and their potential fans appear to have no more appetite for a grubby accommodation than anyone else.  Apart from Stenhousmuir, Regan and Doncaster, of course.

McCoist addressed the prospect of additional punishments to be handed to Sevco for the misdemeanours of Rangers as a further reason to go straight to the bottom of the pile, however, he didn’t touch on the obvious point.

The only way Sevco are going to avoid penalties for Rangers EBT behaviour is if the former club is found to have acted correctly, or if Sevco make no claims to inherit Rangers club licence, name, badge or other unique identifiers.

Anyway, we have Inter Milan, Real Madrid and the Champions League qualifiers to look forward to. Bring them on!

  2. Moonbeams @13.25,

    Thanks for your comment.

I’ve been around too long to be upset, even by obscene language, but I was disgusted that someone on this blog used it to a fellow-Celt: IMO that was like sticking up 2 fingers to the whol CQN communinty. The offender should have been rebuked at the time: it’s too late to do anything effective now.

I wasn’t getting at Paul, who does a magnificent job: I’m well aware that he can’t monitor every comment

.I take your point that you’ve asked for some of your own comments, made in anger, to be deleted. I don’t see any danger of that happening in this case, but then the offender is a hun at heart (we don’t do apologising). However, there’s always hope.

Of course, the sad passing of Lurgan 53 – RIP- puts my little grievance into perspective.

  3. Another Friday, close of business, and Olgivie,Dungcaster, and Raygun escape into another weekend to think on how they can bring the game further into disrepute.

OK but did they want to move quickly or were they passing through cheering crowds?

Funny you should mention Airdrie United as I was lying awake last night and this crossed my mind, I believe their new stadium is called New Broomfield, another link.

They will be called rankers something, play in blue but have to find a new badge and lose the stars as well.

As for liqidation for the old club what’s happening there

Cadizzy startles easily, but he’ll be back, and in greater numbers! (thumbsup)

Cadizzy -‘Johnny and Mary’ astonishingly recorded in 1980. Sounds too good for the dismal decade.

Very sad to hear of the passing of Lurgan 53,

I always found him to be a level headed tolerant fellow who respected other posters opinions even if he disagreed with them.

Ard Macha, did you know him well, were you very close,Perhaps it would be fitting to let us have a brief bio of him,if you think it appropriate ,just as a final salute from all on here.

Have a good weekend lads, dont be getting to upset about trivial issues like the possible future league status of non existent football clubs

A glass of rioja will be raised to Lurgan 53 tonight

A new team trying to join Football leagues should start at the start.

The new Charly Grant inspired Blantyre Celtic have started where they should have in a Lanarksire park league, the carcass of rfc should do the same.

    Its that simple.

Seriously anything less than that and Scottish Football is knakked, its the basics, fundamental buckin basics, anything else is corrupt.

Just in to read the sad news of Lurgen 53′ s passing. R.I.P. Lurgen, god bless your family.

Jobo local forecasters suggest average temp of 35c and sun for the next ten days here in Leros. Reports confirm sighting of a cloud in April with the strong likelihood of some more developing in late October.

Paul67 Excellent CQN tv. Would not be nice to unmask some of our regular contributors on your new venture?

Imagine DBBIA reporting from outside the ole Burns Howff.

BSR from the Glee Club, and BlantyreKev and Taggsybhoy giving live updates from Aberdour.

I’d pay to see that. Must be time for a CQN subscription rather than donation given how much you have given to the Celtic family in the past few months in particular.

Don’t you miss the old Special Branch though.

My old mum was stopped by the Brits this night. They were giving the car a right good searching – boot, inside the car, spare wheel – the whole monty. When they opened the bonnet she asked – not unreasonably she thought, -”Would you mind checking the oil when you’re in there?”

Delayed her a further half hour – but it gave us a right laugh at the time.

    Still does.

  21. Ghuys,

Just seen the NewCo powerpoint presentation to the SPL clubs, it is actually worse than the previous SFA-SPL-SFL document last week, and that is not easy task.

Did Charlie boy not really bother as the vote was lost? You would think that they would put everything into this and put their best foot forward.

Imagine coming all the way down to Glasgow from Aberdeen or Inverness and be handed 5 pages (less title and back page), make that 3 pages of poorly formatted MS Powerpoint , for the most momentous decision ever to be taken in Scottish football!

You would either fall off your seat laughing or just sit there in dumbfounded apoplexy at the incompetence of it all.

Speaking of incompetence, most ‘un-usual’ or ‘difficult to explain’ things that I come across certainly in work could be put down to a ‘conspiracy’. However , virtually on all ocassions it is down to partial availability of information, the dreaded mis-understanding due to a fixed mindset ….. which taken in the round is good old incompetence. With Regan and Doncaster, like many modern managers they do not see much wrong with the inexoriable pursuit of the money, they do not have a feel for the sport, just the cash!

So in my book , fan power has scuppered their plans but they will be in denial and faced with a similar crisis they would robotically follow the same course of action. This is a problem across a wide of range of industries where the customer are just seen as piles of potential money to be stiffed at every opportunity..

A method / forum for keeping this “united” fan base together would be a good move , although it would be fraught with disagreements, judging by the sh1t presentations we have seen over the last few weeks , a properly structured fan group can only add much needed intellectual weight to Scottish football.

Short term we will be lumbered with Regan, Doncaster and Longmuir but in 18 months, they will all be gone …….. pressure of work, new challenge etc, etc.

Div3 will NOT happen for NewCo , it can’t based on the open investigations , which if found guilty means it curtains for them…….the SFA cannot save them, even though they want to.
