Getting a good manager job

351

When Gordon Strachan left Celtic in 2009 the overwhelming calls on CQN were for the club to go for broke and appoint Davie Moyes as manager. Again last year, when we were replacing Ronny Deila, Davie and Brendan Rodgers were Celtic’s top choices for the job.

This week Davie, one of the most awful central defenders to have played for Celtic in my time, underwhelmed West Ham fans when given the job of rescuing them from relegation.

Davie did well in his first managerial job at Preston, then rescued Everton from the failing hands of Walter Smith, taking the club on an 11-year run of what is regarded as success around those parts. Throughout his Everton era he was a hot prospect. The Manchester United job was his four years ago, but little has gone his way since. He left Old Trafford, Real Sociedad and Sunderland under a cloud in quick succession.

We could have had him before Sunderland last year and we would have been delighted at the appointment too. It may even have worked out well. Despite that, I don’t expect him to inspire West Ham to midfield mediocrity. The West Ham job is one of many wonderfully well-paid bad jobs in England. They may avoid relegation, but Davie will never be liked.

Brendan Rodgers will receive regular calls from representatives of West Ham-like clubs, with plenty of money but little hope of success. The Celtic job is far from perfect, but there are few better gigs.

VFR, I don’t know why you engage with this individual. He is nothing more than an attention seeking troll and feeds off the oxygen gifted to him on this site.

He claims to be a socialist but can’t understand why young men and women from poorer backgrounds would try to better themselves and avoid drug use and gang membership by joining the Forces.

He comes on here castigating these people for joining the army but posts using the moniker of a South American war monger, judge and executioner.

I bought a Poppy but I haven’t worn it yet, no pin (Health &Safety?) and I stood at the Cenotaph last November to remember the War dead especially my great uncle William. William was the son of an Irishman and Irishwoman, my great grandparents, who was killed in France near Loos on 25th September 1915 – Private 615 HLI. They never found his body. Nobody will force me to wear a Poppy and I stood at the Cenotaph under my own volition. I also respect those who chose not to wear the Poppy – freedom of choice is a God given gift.

It’s been a while since I have welded anything, was swithering whether to buy a brazing set, always the need for it when people know.

Decision on which game to watch tonight swayed by the news our own Kieran Tierney is captain.

A proud achievement for the lad.

  4. I see Andy McLuskey of OMD fame was interviewed in The Celtic View, he’s delighted with The Stu Armstrong song to the tune of Enola Gay, although he says typical Glaswegians making their own interpretation of songs. He said it also happened at an OMD gig in the 80s in Glasgow. He thought the band’s synthesizers were not working properly, then he worked out that it was the audience who were out of tune.

    I can understand it.

Doesn’t mean I have to agree with or support their decision.

  6. There was a headline on the bbc scotland website yesterday where it said advocaat was saying McInnes fits the bill for sevco – anyway tonight advocaat being interviewed said he didn’t know mcinnes as a manager and couldn’t comment on his link with sevco.

My post at 7.48 was mainly for your benefit. After your previous posts on Ebola Gay.

Do you know anything about motorbikes?

  8. That horrible moment when you realize Lichtensteiner is playing for the Swiss and the Norn Iron support is singing the Bouncy song, is it wrong to hope a falling meteorite wipes out everybody in the ground?

  9. Ryan Christie, Tom Rogic with legs and stamina but without the physic and wee bit of magic.

  10. Commentators talking about Steven Davis being their best player.

One guy ask if he is underrated and the other says no he’s unsung because he has never played for a high profile team then cites Fulham,Southampton and the huns as examples.

  13. Just got into pub to hear commentators whine about referee not waving Johnny Evans straight back on to the field after treatment, I thought the rule was that you couldn’t re-enter the game whilst the play was going on in that particular players area of the pitch I.e. Forward whilst Ball is in opposition penalty box or defender whilst it’s in your own box.

  14. Gerry Armstrong (soup taker extraordinaire) must be in with a shout of being absolutely the worst commentator ever, even though he is in exalted company such as Ian Crockashite, Andy Walker and the EBTers.

Too busy watching the Red Honda Ulster on Tv to help but to be honest Yamahaswell be asking me to explain how to split the atom for all I know about them

  16. Proof that the Sky Sports brainwashing app is functioning perfectly in cork. “See that Johnny Evans he would be Norn Iron’s only world class player, who does he play for in the premiership again” said one cork genius to his mate beside me.

It’s gonna be a long night, more beer and a cattle prod needed methinks.

Calmac will be getting the blame for that.

The Dutch don’t deserve to be in the lead.

Goalscorer ran past McGinn 50 yards from goal, for some reason he didnt track the run. Said goalscorer then runs past McLean who see’s him and inexplicably did nothing. As for Ryan Jack, he must have left the field as i didn’t see him in any of the camera angles.
