Giakoumakis , Juranovic and some old lies

273

Those of you who were not around in the 90s, when the Fergus McCann regime was in place, might be unfamiliar with the stories around Giorgos Giakoumakis and Josip Juranovic.  We are told by the ‘popular’ media that both players are disappointed that unwritten agreements to significantly improve their contracts have not been met.

Peddling this line was an industry back in Fergus’ day.  Players and agents were figuratively battering journalists’ doors down with the fine print in unwritten contracts.  We had no new media then, so all we could do is complain to each other, while a significant portion of the support took everything said about the board hook, line and sinker, backed the players and opposed Fergus.

Now, as then, these players have expensive agents and lawyers.  Nothing is agreed that is not in the contract.  Contracts can contain clauses with bonuses or uplifts based on appearances, goals, club success or pretty much any metric you can think of.  If it remains unwritten, it is not an agreement.

As far as Josip (27) and Giorgos (28 next week), honestly, you don’t even need to ask.  Those of us who have ambitions to kick on, move beyond our European cannon fodder status, will want to Asset Manage both of them.  The recruitment operation that brought them to the club in 2021 has only grown in resource; throw the dice without a moment’s hesitation.  Greatness was never achieved by being conservative.

    Japan’s defensive organization was superb.

Why can’t Celtic defend this well away in Europe?

Nobody in the world has seen the Japan allowed goal

Nick Walsh gave it cos the team in blue confused him

  3. Maeda smiling. Now that’s a change.

I noticed when he was subbed he turned round to the field and bowed.

Does he do that at Celtic Park?

cos the japanese players are better than ours ?

  5. Germany put out by a bad var decision, the ball was well over the line ,also the referee should have went over to the monitor, were I’m sure he would have said no goal, just shows you that var isn’t the answer?

  6. I reckon Japan can definitely beat Croatia (Josip is going methinks – he has had excellent games) and if the USA start with CCV they have a great chance against Holland. :)

I cannae see Australia getting by Argentina howevaaaah.

Bada Bing. 1 million? Explain please.

FIFA pay for those away on WC duty. I don’t know the details but it is quite lucrative, they must have been sued before. :))

Souness and his mates missing the point.

The VAR has to show the whole ball had crossed the line. The decision shouldn’t be given unless they are clear that the whole ball was over the line. If there is no clear evidence the whole ball was out, the goal should be given.

  9. With the best VAR technology available and 7 refs watching it, surely to goodness they can give definitive proof that the ball was not out as soon as the decision is made?

  10. someone posted a couple of weeks ago that FIFA pay clubs around £9k per day that each player is on WC duty.

    A nice wee bonus.

  11. Club get 10,000 Dollars a day per player involved starting 10 days prior to commencement of World Cup,

So,Celtic have been earning 40,000 Dollars a day since 10th November, so 888,000 up to today with another couple of 40, 000’s guaranteed, so a million bucks is about right.

  12. GARYGILLESPIESHAMSTRING – the ref said it was out. The best camera angle offered so far showed it was out. VAR say it wasn’t and ref changed his decision. So VAR panel saw something that no one else has seen, no?

Apparently former players can earn us similar income if the played for us less than two years ago.

Delighted for our Japanese contingent, regardless. Their team was completely outclassed in the first half but showed you are never out of It at 0-1.

They actually should have made It 3-1 a few minutes after taking the lead.

Doubly delighted that Spain are still in It too. Been living here for 20 years and my son was born here so Spain definitely my team at the World Cup.

  15. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

CCV, Maeda, Mooy, Juranovic all likely out of contention for first game back.

  16. Well the Maeda detractors will maybe be a bit challenged tonight. 2 games he played they won v Spain and Germany. The one he didn’t they lost.

The USA won when CCV played his only game.

JJ has been solid for unbeaten Croatia and Mooy simply imense.

For 2 fringe Celtic players and 1 who has played about 50% of the games at RB since arriving they are doing well. All 4 through.

  17. All 4 also in weaker side of the draw now too.

Argies and maybe Holland & Portugal as strong teams in top half

Spain Brazil Brazil and Engerland all in bottom half.

  18. Denia

Spain will have a huge task with Morrocco and then Brazil followed by Engerland or France before the final.

Losing tonight will really cost them I fear.

Croatia, Portugal and Argentina would have been a bit easier
