Malcolm Murray, the newly appointed chairman of the Newco club Charles Green hopes to establish, yesterday entertained us with his comments on punishments served on a football team suspected of cheating you for over a decade. He said:
“We’ve had giant punishments already – a European ban, a 10-point deduction, the emotional trauma everyone has suffered. I think, for the good of Scottish football, it’s much better Rangers in the SPL.”
There has been no European ban. Newco will not be eligible for European competition because it is a Newco and Uefa requires three years accounts from participating clubs. They are simply not eligible, they have not and will not achieve the qualification criteria for European football for three years.
The 10-point penalty imposed on Rangers last season for seeking protection from creditors by going into administration is hardly a “giant” punishment. It changed nothing. Rangers were second in the league when it was imposed and remained so. They released no players and went on to defeat Motherwell twice, ensuring they finished the league in second place, earning £900k in additional prize money.
As a punishment, it is the equivalent of banning Ally McCoist from this year’s 100m Olympic competition. Pointless.
Which leaves us with “the emotional trauma everyone has suffered”. Compared to the emotional trauma suffered by Dundee, Motherwell, Gretna, Third Lanark fans, recent events have been nothing more than a focus for some robust rallying calls.
Don’t even start me on the emotional cost of losing the league in 2003, 2005, 2009, 2010 and 2011, all to a team of cheats. How do you measure that? Think back to each day we lost those titles and tell me how you felt about them then and how you feel now, knowing you were cheated.

Can’t agree with your point to ernie.
We should not be helping to finance any individual or company who fund the huns, old or new.

I don’t give out lines as a punishment, get with it eh! :-)
So the SFA want to scrap the SPL and save rangers. Nothing to do with Ogilvie of course…

Bom dia,
Been awhile since I gave you some tips to waste your money on here in Brasil (I’m more or less even this season so far).
Anyway, three games in the Serie “A” here today
Cruzeiro(5th) v Friburgense (9th)
Cruzeiro had a rotten season last year and have made a better start this time around. They’re still an unsetlled squad whpo rely heavily on Argentinian midfielder, Montillo who is a poor man’s Xavi (which always makes me wonder why he doesn’t get called up more). Today see’s them back at home in Belo Horizonte after a season in forced exile due to World Cup preparations, so they should be playing to an enthusiastic full house.
Friburgense are nobody’s mugs, but have struggled a bit this season so far. A draw today would be a good result for them.
Prediction : HOME WIN
Inter RS (4th) v Botafogo (6th)
Inter are back to full strength after last weeks internationals. Key player here is Oscar who makes it all happen for them (and played well last Saturday against Argentina). I also like the look of keeper, Muriel (who’s a bloke, honest) and can see them scoring but not conceding.
Botafogo started like a train this season – then the wheels flew off. Varoius injuries and transfer gossip sees them very unsetlled. Can’t see them doing much here, but that’s usually when they play best.
Prediction : HOME WIN
Fluminense (10th) v Portugesa (12th)
‘mense are back to full strength. A special day for striker Fred as he’ll have played 127 games. The most he’s played for any team (apparently he played 126 for Lyon).
Portugesa have the hallmarks of relegation candidates already (sadly, as I like the whole ethos of the club). Can’t see them getting much outta this one.
Prediction : HOME WIN
So there you go a nice wee (7/4) treble for you. Boa sorte !!
Oh before I go. An interesting game in the Argentinian Clasura “B” today between Patronato who entertain River Plate (ko 19:00 UK time). River need a win to return to the big boys league, but have bottled things these past few games. Should be interesting.
Murray – I can rebuild rangers.

Just speaking to a mate there, who was telling me that a fellow Tim in his local last night constantly referred to a certain club in Glasgow as Servco.
This did not go down too well with followers of the recently liquidated club, and one of them really lost it by the end of the night.
Seems that refusal to recognise them by the name they want to call themselves touches a raw nerve.
I’ll have to try it … let’s all laugh at Servco does have a ring about it…

Have you all seen Phil Macs latest?
He is claiming that SebCoe FC are in talks about entering SFL1.
SFL1 indeed.
Newco seems to have transferred the arrogance from Oldco. It may yet sink them before they get a team on the park.
