“Giant punishments” on Rangers were illusory, you were punished instead

1014

Malcolm Murray, the newly appointed chairman of the Newco club Charles Green hopes to establish, yesterday entertained us with his comments on punishments served on a football team suspected of cheating you for over a decade.  He said:

“We’ve had giant punishments already – a European ban, a 10-point deduction, the emotional trauma everyone has suffered. I think, for the good of Scottish football, it’s much better Rangers in the SPL.”

There has been no European ban.  Newco will not be eligible for European competition because it is a Newco and Uefa requires three years accounts from participating clubs.  They are simply not eligible, they have not and will not achieve the qualification criteria for European football for three years.

The 10-point penalty imposed on Rangers last season for seeking protection from creditors by going into administration is hardly a “giant” punishment.  It changed nothing.  Rangers were second in the league when it was imposed and remained so.  They released no players and went on to defeat Motherwell twice, ensuring they finished the league in second place, earning £900k in additional prize money.

As a punishment, it is the equivalent of banning Ally McCoist from this year’s 100m Olympic competition.  Pointless.

Which leaves us with “the emotional trauma everyone has suffered”.  Compared to the emotional trauma suffered by Dundee, Motherwell, Gretna, Third Lanark fans, recent events have been nothing more than a focus for some robust rallying calls.

Don’t even start me on the emotional cost of losing the league in 2003, 2005, 2009, 2010 and 2011, all to a team of cheats.  How do you measure that?  Think back to each day we lost those titles and tell me how you felt about them then and how you feel now, knowing you were cheated.

TBH we want the few Celtic players involved in the Euros to be out of it asap, so that they can get a proper break before pre-season training!

Well done Greece! Big Sammy played a big part always tried to be available as an out ball. Incredible!

  5. Just and a, like the good wine, I always leave CQN to the last. I have been on Phil MacGiolla Bhain’s site and he is saying he has a good source saying that SFA has plans to accept newco-club into SFL1. I have drafted the following email to send to them and anyone is welcome to use it as a basis for his/her own. I wrote it in anger so I want to go over it to make sure I get it spot on. The last thing I want is to give them any excuse to claim I am just an ‘internet bampot’.

I am disgusted there is even a hint that a newco-club with nothing, not even the qualifications of non-S.F.L. clubs, should be considered for preferential treatment that would install it in any Scottish league without the due process of application. Is there no sense of integrity, no morality and justice, within the walls of any football authority in Scotland? Is there not one single individual with some sense of conscience and decency who will raise an objection to another form of cheating where members in lower leagues are made to simply accept a non-club being promoted immediately to a higher league than them. What of those clubs outside the S.F.L. who over the years have waited for an opportunity to apply to join the S.F.L.? Is it right that these clubs with history and qualifications are made to stand by as a non-club is allowed exemption from applying and is catapulted straight to S.F.L.1? What makes such a move totally unpalatable, is the source of and background to its inception. It is a story of inconceivable malevolence, maladministration, possible fraudulent or even criminal misbehaviour accompanied by disdain and disrespect for authorities, other football clubs and above all other Scottish football supporters. This attitude has been accompanied by a total disregard of rules and regulations which, though sadly lacking, are all that Scottish football can rely on for fair play. It is also extremely evident that those who perpetrated these repulsive deeds have absolutely no sense of shame, no conception of contrition, not even an apology. These are the foundations of this newco-club that it is suggested should be allowed directly into S.F.L.1.

If the events hinted at should come to pass, I will never attend any kind of football match that involves a Scottish team. How can you expect me to pay money to watch a competitive sport when there are obvious systems in place to accommodate certain teams above all others. I am at a loss to comprehend where ‘sport’ and ‘fair competition’ can ever exist in such circumstances. It has been suspected for many years that such an advantage was provided for a certain team, now in oblivion, and potential current intentions do nothing to alleviate the fear that the status quo will remain in place.

As a Scottish football supporter who contributes to the income, and thus the very existence of Scottish football clubs and consequently the Scottish football ruling bodies such as the S.F.A., I demand that a newco-club be regarded as a completely new entity and that any decisions regarding its future should reflect what is just and fair for every level of Scottish football. Anything else would be to condone extreme misconduct, some of which might at some future date be exposed as cheating. If football is to remain a genuine sport in Scotland, it is essential that some enlightened and intelligent decisions are made by its governing bodies in the near future. I would add that money should not even come into the equation, though much of the financial arguments have been, to say the least, a complete deception.

I will conclude by saying that if the hints are true, I will use every means in my power to expose and condemn every Scottish football authority and any other organisation that supports the suggested proposals regarding a newco-club. It is indecent in the extreme.

Aw Naw – I didn’t even know the wee fecker was the Russian manager when I placed my bet! Hope he gets to meet with Putin before he heads off to PSV!

Zbyszek – yet again, Poland didn’t take what chances they had. Hard lines mate, but you’ll be glad to see the back of the Russians!

  7. The Samster was very influential. He’s a great player and we are lucky to have him.

  8. How can any new club be accepted into the SFA if the owner is still the previous owner of a club still in administration / going into liquidation but still technically a member. Surely Green cannot be associated with two clubs at the same time. Therefore until the old club are 100% obliterated they should not be applying for a place that currently doesn’t exist.

So if tomorrow is like today, worth a wee bet on Germany going home and Holland going through (which, as was established after much debate on Thursday, is still a possibility)

Commiserations but I cannot see that the team did enough to earn a win. They seemed to tire after a good start in all games but the Russia fixture.

Your coach, like many in Scotland & England, will have to reconsider a fairly suicidal attacking style against teams that just love to counter attack. It is admirable to attack but they need to add brains to bravery

A phrase keeps going through my head -Samaras stumbles past 4 defenders before passing to his imaginary friend and the ball goes out.

He has looked ridiculous in this competition but I hope he scores hat tricks so we get money for him

He’s a great shout for the lone striker role away from home in Europe.

    Well done big man.

  18. Thank you all all for Commiserates. We looked well in the first half and awful in the second half. Needed win but played three defensive midfielders. I think there were two coaches on this Eouro ’12 whose first names were Dick.
