Government faux grandstanding a year late

235

There is something demeaning about Celtic putting out daily messages asking fans who have zero interest in attending Celtic Park on Sunday to stay away from the game at the insistence of the Scottish Government.

They have been forced into this by Government muscle flexing.  The Government have zero intention of cancelling the fixture but cannot control that information from leaking through their ranks.  This pantomime will continue until the First Minister, or perhaps her Justice Minister, will concede that Celtic and the visitors have ‘done enough’ to allow the fixture to go ahead.  Celtic’s messaging has been crystal clear for 12 months; we are not the transgressing party, but we are useful to deflect from the core problem.

If only the Government had been as keen to act last March.  They froze when they should have made a decision, allowing 50,000 fans to attend a Europa League game in Ibrox, including thousands of visitors from Germany.  Despite first hand access to the scientific evidence, they continued to divert their eyes until football took the unilateral decision to call a halt to the sport, two days before another 50,000 were due at Ibrox.  A year on and your Government has matured into faux grandstanding around the most important issue of our lives, mark my words, the game will go ahead, this is all false.

We don’t yet live in a one party state (close though) so what direct action can be taken against Celtic by SG is unclear to me.

    As for the messaging?

Improving but needs to be more rambunctious still.

    “Oh you’re having a summit?”

    “That’s nice. Definitely overdue”

I am not a horsey man but I do enjoy Cheltenham. Not the same this year, of course, but still enjoyable.

I think you are being a bit unfair on Welsh.

Although not the tallest, he is very good in the air and is a proper defender. Which Bitton isn’t.

  9. Mmnn …..some of you must have more faith in the MIB than me , as soon as I see Collums name I know regardless of formation or player selection that the outcome will be dictated by his decisions more than anything else :( If its wasn’t him I would suggest making it as physical and nasty a game as possible because they will surely have an eye on their place in the team for Europe :)

Couple of decent tackles into the marchin bastards and they’d fold. Last chance for our bhoys to show they do have a heart for a jersey and a battle, no matter how late in the season. Fxck them getting through this league campaign unbeaten, never hear the end of it! like their faux 55.

  16. In normal circumstances, this could be the party of all parties – Irish and Croatians getting together (with me in the middle). Pity it will be virtual this year.

ZAGREB, 16 March, 2021 – Nine Croatian cities will participate this year in the 12th edition of the Irish Global Greening tourism initiative to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day on March 17 and show their support for global greening.

The Irish Embassy to Croatia on Tuesday said that a record number of Croatian cities and locations will participate this year by greening public spaces like museums, galleries, fountains, parks and other areas, starting at 7 pm on St. Patrick’s Day.

Green is the colour associated with Ireland and is used to promote Ireland’s tourism, through marketing campaigns and other activities, including the global greening initiative, launched 11 years ago in Australia when the Sydney Opera House was lit up in green on St. Patrick’s Day in 2010.

The Croatian cities that will participate in this global event this year are Zagreb, Rijeka, Zadar, Split, Pula, Dubrovnik and Varaždin, which have already participated, and this year they are to be joined by Hvar and Oriovac, as the only city from Slavonia.

The head of Ireland’s tourism administration, Niall Gibbons, has said that more than 70 million people around the world have connections with Ireland and by marking St. Patrick’s Day they reconnect with their heritage. This year it will be especially important because many of them who live abroad will not be able to travel home to celebrate.

  17. Gene, I started there – made my Communion there.

Communion breakfast in the old hall sandwiched between the church and the old school.

“ Elyounoussi has scored as many as Griffiths & Ajeti combined. he also has as many assists as them so he is as productive as two of the alternatives combined.‘’

While I don’t always agree with you, your arguments are usually tough to counter. On this occasion, less so I fear, if Griffiths and Ajeti are being used as a benchmark (even a combined one!)

    TT…………………..thanks.

I believe Fr Simcox’s background was a very wealthy family in Cork City,

We now live in the county and I mean to look into his background further.

He was a decent lovely fella with a profound faith. The other priest was a Fr Trainer who was young and progressive, but he left to go to some other Parish.

Never understood the animosity that some Celtic fans have towards Phil. Not saying that he’s the best writer in the world or that everyone should read his articles but in the world of Scottish football journalism he is most definitely one of the good guys.

    ————————–

Well, in my defence, they are the two main alternatives.

Your choice, Paddy Klimala, has even less in the way of assists and goals after 23 appearances, mosly as sub.

I just don’t want to take goals out of the team. Tha’s why I would use one of those 3 alternaties as an impact sub where fitness is not so crucial

  28. !!Bada Bing!! on

Jabba entering the Prodcast market, avoid, Stubbs has signed up for him, hopefully gets dropped from Celtic TV coverage in future.

  29. Weebobbycollins on

Bada Bing…it will be very hun biased. Stephen Kerr is an arrogant …chap. I remember him when he was starting out. Similar to wee bull neck, not very likable. Stubbs lost credibility some time ago.
