Green/Whyte enablers, racism and Ibrox security

1089

Have you ever seen a ‘Rangers’ director pushed by a journalist on a question he dodged before yesterday?  It’s never happened.  STV’s Peter Smith did something no journalist in the history of Scottish football has done before, pressed a question when the man in charge at Ibrox dodged the initial inquiry.  Smith dismissed the deserved praise that came his way last night by suggesting it’s what a journalist does.  True, but refreshing nonetheless.

I was reminded last night that Green’s examination by the old media has come earlier in his journey to the bottom that Craig Whyte’s did last season.  Whyte was being backed by some, let’s call them enablers, right up until the week before Rangers went into administration.  Unfortunately for Green some in the media, and perhaps a few in the support, were embarrassed by their backing of Whyte last year and will not repeat the mistake.

Apart from the aforementioned Green, I have only ever known one person to use the word “darkie” (I missed 1970s ‘comedians’).  He was born in the first years of the 20th century, too young for the first war and too old to be conscripted for the second.  Well into his 90s, I heard him say “there are a lot of darkies on TV these days”.  He was reprimanded and immediately realised what he had done.  An apology and a period of over-compensation followed.

It falls to SFA president Campbell Ogilvie to ensure that such language has no place in Scottish football.  Disciplinary proceedings should be issued, unless, of course, the SFA view the matter in a different light.  Any future appearance of a Charles Green image on a banner or effigy at Celtic Park, or use of the words ‘Our New Hero’ to describe him, should not be regarded as an endorsement of his views, only his work in football.

Celtic minstrels will write songs about him, I have heard the words “man-love” being used this week.

Will Newco stay active long enough for Craig Whyte’s security over Ibrox, crystallised by yesterday’s ruling that he owes Ticketus circa £17m and therefore had a piece of the action at Rangers after all, to have an effect?  There are so many icebergs around Newco probably not.

It was interesting to hear Manchester United’s endorsement of Newco as a potential English Premier League club being debated on STV.  Now out of Europe, Manchester United were asked if they would play a fundraiser at Ibrox later this month.  I hope Green’s comments on the interview don’t spoil relations.

I was pleased to hear we were drawn at home for the next game but for pity’s sake, sending Motherwell to Tannadice the day before defeats the point. This is a complete failure.

Add this to the fact that Fraser Forster’s biggest fan is making his First Holy Communion when we are at home to St Johnstone on 11 May and you get a taste of the frustration in our house last night.

He realises the importance of his First Communion but thought we could cancel the party afterwards and have an alternative celebration at Celtic Park. We’ll distract him on the day…..

As many of you are already aware, the Celtic Trust have arranged a process whereby, if you live in Scotland, you can easily contact your MSP to back the FAC call for an inquiry into policing at the Gallowgate last month.  You can find the information and template here, go do it.

Conscience is but a word that cowards use, devised at first to keep the strong in awe.

  3. If a club was to emerge completely debt free from this appalling mess. How long do you think they’d stay debt free?

Do you think they’d get the backing of the crowds again, while fielding an affordable team? No, by the time they got anywhere near the top flight they’d be in the mire again. Unless they move to a smaller stadium with lower maintenance costs.

No expert but I would imagine once the police are involved then nothing will happen quickly. If as some seem to think that this is all some Machiavellian plan to get a debt free hun team back then I don’t think we should worry too much as this looks like it could drag through the courts with everyone claiming ownership on assets and the Dementors claiming ownership of their history.

Forgive me I may have picked this up wrong but is Der Huns link up wae the Dallas Cowboys on a player and manager swap basis or is Chuckles taking them to play in the NFL if they don’t get back into the SPL immediately. I canny work this one out and my heids nipping…

Mongo Graham: “Think recent issues with Green should remind people how important it is to have people like Super and Walter involved at RFC.”

  7. !!Bada Bing!!

I keep forgetting about all that punishment (lol)

cant see how they can turn this around to be honest. if BDO void sale of assets all assets belonging to oldco need to be resold

the licence for oldco is gone

the licence for sevco is gone (it cant be transferred, hence associate membership etc…)

so if the buyer of assets wants to operate a football club they will have to apply for a new licence, no mean feet, given what has gone before.

    investors will run a mile

can someone switch those lights off on the way out please

rangers, sevco, 5088, the rangers, ranger international bla bla bla, just gonna die

  8. I said last week Bomber asked the most pertinent question of all in the whole fiasco and a couple of posters agreed with me, no churnalist has ever asked the question. My next post in a wee second will be off topic but I will respectfully ask fans of our great club from doing something.

I’ve got it the Dallas Cowboys are their new feeder club over the pond to go with their conveyor belt of world beaters pouring out of Murray Park! Naw wait a minute that’s not it either and my heids banging noo…

  11. Plays.

    I mean, come on.

That Timposter let the old mask slip with that one, but it’s an absolute belter.

250,000 Sevconians going to an open-air theatre festival. Just when you thought this couldn’t get any funnier.

  12. Dallas Cowboys heard there were good Wide Receiver’s in Scatland and were looking for people to fill that position, then found out that it was sevco fans.

  13. Not getting this concept of a new debt free hun being delivered back to those who really want them and competing again in Scottish Football.

Dodgy Dave cannot take them back. He no longer has the wonga – in fact we already know that he never did – he built rangers on borrowed money and he took out millions. That was his business model for them and he can’t go there again.

If it went belly up tomorrow and BDO recalled the assets someone would need to buy them. They would be more than £5 Million this time. They still have to work their way through the leagues to make any money to pay for this and running costs. They still have huge structural problems. They’ve just had a share issue. Could they get away with another one so soon? In short – NO. Could they get a line of credit? Unlikely? It is also likely that they will have to start from scratch and still be at least 3 years from European football money, at least. Their best possible outcome would be a business model that gets them through the divisions with a much reduced squad of players prepared to play for journeymen scottish football wages, hope that they can put a team together to get in to and progress in a european competition within a year or two of promotion to the SPL. It’s a herculean task. How much would they need to spend to guarantee this? We know the answer is simple – you cannot guarantee it. And therein lies just one major major problem for anyone wanting to rebuild the carcass of rangers.

Short of some crazy billionaire buying them and spending stupid money (which of course causes problems with the new FFP rules) I cannot see anything better than a long slow rise through the leagues to a long period of mediocrity in the SPL. Oh, and we know from last year – there are no billionaires out there willing to do it.

At this point there is a genuine possibility that there won’t even be a tribute act operating out of Ibrox within the next few years.

It is almost unbelievable. But it is true. I understand people’s fears about conspiracy to save what’s left of them, or to launder them, but look at the the facts. Look at what would be left after everything is played out. It is an unholy mess. No one knows who is going to own what when it’s all done, what involvement the police will have, BDO will have, the outcome of HMRC appeal, the outworkings of LNS. It’s crazy. No one can ‘save’ or recreate what it is they want to save or recreate.

    They are done.

  19. Would Chuck chance selling off Ibrox and rent it back in a bid to bring in cash. Paul had a story along that line many months ago. To me that would be genuine progress (for us) seperate them from their fixed assets, they would really be the untouchables then for any rich investor.
