Guidetti and Scepovic complete Celtic line-up

999

Things looked touch and go earlier today but Celtic pulled a late double swoop to sign John Guidetti on loan from Manchester City, and Stefan Scepovic on a four year deal from Sporting Gijon.  Guidetti has been a Celtic transfer rumour since his 20 goals in 23 games stint at Feyenoord as a teenager in 2011-12.  Now he’s on board, I’m holding out for news of Georgi Kinkladze.

Stefan Scepovic could have played his hand better over the last 24 hours; footballers are seldom accused of over-intellectualising their plans.  Late interest from La Liga looked to have dealt Celtic a body-blow, but he’s ours now, and I’m pleased we got someone who was wanted by Spanish scouts.

That’s us finished for the summer window.  Welcome to Celtic, John, Stefan.

I am not sure I like that last suggestion.

I would have to change my name to Brogan Rogan Trevino and Ephraim …… and that just doesn’t sound right.

    Celtic Champs Elect:

I’m underwhelmed, to be honest mate. Overall I think we’ve screwed up this window to a fare-thee-well, and we’re still weak in the middle of the park, shockingly weak at left back and could have problems at central defence.

I’m still asking why these two strikers, who’ve been available for months, were left until the last kick of the ball. I am angry because they’d have made a difference when it really counted, in the Champions League.

If you think I’m dancing in the streets over this, guess again.

But yes, Giudeti is a great footballer and I am pleased we’ll finally see him in the Hoops. I know nothing about Scepovic, but I was more angry with our dithering over the deal than his swithering earlier and he appears to have paid, financially, for his “mistake” so all good on that front.

We needed strikers. We got strikers. Two out and two in in that area, and we have definitely got the better of the deal. We’ve got cover out wide which we needed and wanted, and that’s all good.

I’m pleased we covered the most important bases, but BIG questions remain unanswered.

  10. Good window at the end – moved on some players who were not up to playing for Celtic and some exciting new guys in

  11. It’s down to Ronny now to get us playing, loans or not he’s been backed in this window.

Got a feeling this could be a really good season playing great attacking football and hammering a few teams along the way HH

  15. I wonder how we’ll cope with four strikers fighting for one spot.

Not sure if he’d like it, but I think Stokes could play in Commons’ role. Grithiths might adapt to playing on the wing.

  16. At the close of this window I am still of the opinion that our transfer strategy is correct, it’s just badly executed. If one of the strikers signed on the last hours of the window were signed before the competitive games had begun, and if the wingers the manager highlighted he wanted during the pre season had been signed earlier, we may not have been KO’d from the CL twice.

But, better late than never and with the exception of left back, and being really greedy attacking midfield, we have a strong enough squad of players to give us a fair shot at a treble and qualification from EL group if the coach is up to getting the best out of what he now has at his disposal.
