Celtic await ratification of Guidetti’s transfer by the SFA. The player travelled to Glasgow yesterday afternoon and quickly concluded a deal with Celtic, but it took until late in the evening before paperwork arrived from Manchester.
Aware of the delay, Celtic applied to the SFA for an extension. The SFA authorised the extension and subsequently received all relevant paperwork, Celtic believed they were over the line, but I understand we are in new territory with respect to extensions, so the SFA have asked Fifa for guidance.
Paperwork was submitted considerably before Manchester United completed the 2am signing of Radamel Falcao, so there is reason for hope, but it’s not clear in Glasgow what discretion the FA used to register Falcao. The same may or may not be available to the SFA.
There are also time constraints, player lists for Uefa group stage competitions need to be completed by 23:00 tonight, and we can’t add the player until Fifa issue guidance to the SFA.
If Celtic wanted a more complicated transfer than Guidetti they surely found it with our Serbian striker, Stefan Scepovic. Transfers involving influences across multiple countries are often difficult……
One thing Celtic are clear about is the endurance of the player, who had to sit through difficult hours in order to make the deal happen. He kept his nerve as others tried to sell him to Getafe – who were under no Financial Fair Play restrictions.
We’ll do a wrap-up of the window tomorrow.

Would Celtic still sign him if he could not play in the EL, I wonder.

Deadline missed? Don’t know why FIFA would allow it.
This is new news is it not?

No there isn’t.
There’s a definitive answer in Hansard in response to a question from Roseanna Cunningham about which elected offices Catholics are barred from. The answer is none.

First lord of treasury is pm is it no?
ernie lynch:
I believe I offered one very good reason why I think this is the case.
I didn’t get these opinions out of a comic book. See my reply to SFTB.
My friends in Celtic,
An observation : We keep stating that the Tory party in Scotland are irrelevant. That may well be true and largely self inflicted.
However, their core vote remains about 16%.
The amount of Catholics in Scotland is about 16%.
Will we be an irrelevance also ?
HH.
Mind this time yesterday we were signing Niall McGinn, Peter Pawlett and Connor Sammon!

I was referring to habitual SNP voters not members.

I was a member of the Labour Party briefly some 30 years ago but I have always voted Labour, apart from in a few elections after the invasion of Iraq as a protest vote against Blair.
But, as with above, I was referring to voting habits not party membership.
Off oot to the hedge now

The report implied it was so he can sign for us. Also had pictures of him outside CP yesterday afternoon.
Thanks for that.

James,
First Lord of the Treasury is the official title Prime Minister. Its on the door of No10.
Thanks for that lionsroars67 think guidetti couls do well if he finds the right home. He has a charity so sounds like good lad who has lost his way a bit but was very hot property a few years ago. He will appreciate what he might have at celtic im sure. The serb lokks like he knows the route to goal from his youtube montage but then so do you :-)
Anyone who genuinely cares about the religious make up of the Scottish government can go ahead and join the voting q with the OO to vote no,you know it makes sectarian sense.
Go on get in that q!!

This has quickly become a dialogue of the deaf. Hedge-trimming has become a much more attractive proposition
BUT…..
“How do I feel about my opposition to the Iraq war putting me on the same side as the BNP?
Is that what you’ve got? Really?”
No, it is the mirror image of the argument visited upon me and other No voters. It is feeding back the logic, or lack of, of that position in all its idiocy. That was the point.
Oh! and you went passive aggressive again.
I’m away to talk to the hedge.

An appeal is being made to FIFA to have his transfer ratified, no idea how long that will take. These governing bodies like to drag their heels.
He must be registered with UEFA as a Celtic player by midnight tonight to be eligible for the Europa League. Don`t know if FIFA will have made their decision by then.
Isnt it strange, that people who work in administration, cant get the required paperwork done on time.
Odd to say the least.
SFA chicanery?
Its not as if they don’t have previous.
Cant see Guidetti coming now….its too late.
We should have known there would be a last minute hitch.
Dearie me….Administrators who cant do paperwork.
Farcical.

It may be Alaister Lamont not accurately portraying the situation, it seems Celtic will stay quiet till they hear officially on whether Guidetti becomes a Celtic player, leaves those who like to speculate time to fill their boots
setting free the bears for Res. 12 & Oscar Knox but saying no to CQN racists:
This “debate” is at an end until you stop misrepresenting my position.
I know EXACTLY what you are referring to, and I know the context in which I said it.
You are not interested in a debate, so have fun cutting your hedge.

Who s that
So if there’s nowt stopping RC’S becoming PM why do you have to change your religion to become pm?
Confused dot com
Silly me, never thought he’d be coming on for the same thing – doh!
if the guidetti deal is not ratified by fifa and uefa, I could see a whole can of worms (ala Bosman 2) being opened up regarding restrictions of working practice in the European courts for football players. Due to the restrictions the transfer window imposes on players who have no club but have been released or excluded from squad lists due to limited places. (25 I think)
I don’t imagine they want a full blown case against them and will just stamp their ok on it just like falcao’s move not being cleared until near 2am.
A player does not have to be a free agent at the time of the window closing for him to sign for another club.
There have been cases of players having their contracts cancelled in September, October, February etc. At no time have they had to wait till the next window to be allowed to sign a contract with a new club.
The rule says a player who is out of contract is free to sign for a club at any time.
Geordie Munro:
I assume that’s a reference to Blair mate?
That slippery war criminal had no principles whatsoever. He could have declared his change of religion whilst in office, but he had an eye ever fixed on the voters and the legacy.
Ironic considering what the legacy is, and the way he whores himself around the world to dictators and arms companies etc.
If any man alive has a special room made up for him in Hell …

100% right Tom. Another fact STV got wrong this morning.
A Catholic can be PM.
They’ve just never had one.

I was just about to say exactly the same. He has previous with this. I wouldn;t trust anything he said to be honest. I believe he misrepresents regularly.
The Catholic PM issue is more to do with the role the PM plays in appointing Anglican bishops.Clearly as a Catholic this he could not do.

=====================
At one point potential Prime Ministers were Charles Kennedy, Ian Duncan Smith and of cours Tony Blair who was………the first two were Catholics at the time, all 3 are now.
Bizarrely Blair is staying just down the road from me at the moment
Jamesf,
No. Disraeli ;)
KiddingbeforeI’mpouncedon. Csc
I think Guidetti willl be a brilliant player for us
Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease hurry up and get it sorted
The reasons why they have never had a Catholic or Jewish PM are varied.
Disraeli could only be PM because he converted from Judaism at a time when the religion of those in public office was far more relevant than it is now.
Blair’s conversion to Catholicism after leaving office suggests to me that it does matter.
It would appear a Catholic or a Jew cannot advise the Monarch on certain matters and it would create a problem for the UK.
