Guidetti awaits Fifa, Scepovic held nerve

1862

Celtic await ratification of Guidetti’s transfer by the SFA.  The player travelled to Glasgow yesterday afternoon and quickly concluded a deal with Celtic, but it took until late in the evening before paperwork arrived from Manchester.

Aware of the delay, Celtic applied to the SFA for an extension.  The SFA authorised the extension and subsequently received all relevant paperwork, Celtic believed they were over the line, but I understand we are in new territory with respect to extensions, so the SFA have asked Fifa for guidance.

Paperwork was submitted considerably before Manchester United completed the 2am signing of Radamel Falcao, so there is reason for hope, but it’s not clear in Glasgow what discretion the FA used to register Falcao.  The same may or may not be available to the SFA.

There are also time constraints, player lists for Uefa group stage competitions need to be completed by 23:00 tonight, and we can’t add the player until Fifa issue guidance to the SFA.

If Celtic wanted a more complicated transfer than Guidetti they surely found it with our Serbian striker, Stefan Scepovic.  Transfers involving influences across multiple countries are often difficult……

One thing Celtic are clear about is the endurance of the player, who had to sit through difficult hours in order to make the deal happen.  He kept his nerve as others tried to sell him to Getafe – who were under no Financial Fair Play restrictions.

We’ll do a wrap-up of the window tomorrow.

  8. I for one will not vote Labour ,not one of them are just not up to it, one big mistake was when the party elected Gordon Brown as Prime Minister. that finished it for me, and the other loser Ed Milliband, at least with the tories you know were you stand,

  9. I hope the Mubarak signing will get the best from Izzy,I’m a huge fan of Izzy but his form has shaded of late and in my opinion its due to who is playing in front of him.Get him some cover and he’ll be back to his best.Personally I think a 4 3 3 would suit our squad better than the 4 2 3 1 when Brown is fit.

Not surprising that the SMSM give the impression Celtic somehow missed the deadline, despite having applied for an extension.

SFA pass the buck, hoping it’s rejected no doubt so as to embarrass celibacy having agreed an extension. They don’t need fifa approval, they register players

  17. Seems to me you don’t really have to be a SNP voter to support independence.

Seems to me a catholic in support of the SNP 40 years ago would have been very hard to find, not now.

Seems to me Scotland has moved on somewhat since I was in my teens and mostly for the better.

PS – not that long ago Her Majesty’s Loyal Opposition and the 3rd largest party were headed up by Catholics…IDS and Chas Kennedy. The fact they didn’t have a snowball in hells chance of beating TB the neo-catholic (now Catholic) PM doesn’t alter the facts!

    In politics never say never.

Who could have dreamed pre 1997 that a Labour Candidate with a name like James Francis Murphy would be elected in Eastwood.

Murphy himself probably couldn’t believe it.

  19. James Forrest/SFTB –

At the risk of scorn from both of you (!)…..this should be relatively easy to resolve :

SFTB points out that a common criticism made of No voters is that by supporting the union, they are voting the same way as the BNP/DUP/Orange Order etc. The implication is that they are in bed with a bunch of fascists and looneys.

This is clearly true. However it is not a good argument given that, when the vote on the Iraq war was made in Parliament, the SNP were happy to support the same position as BNP/National Front/DUP etc…etc. in voting against the war.

That is – it is possible to find yourself in the unusual circumstances of sharing political ground with parties who would otherwise give you the “dry boak”.

It is not a knock-down argument or good reason upon which to base a decision either way (Yes or No).

Ukip are set to win their first Commons seat with a landslide 64 per cent of the vote following the biggest swing in modern political history.

Turncoat MP Douglas Carswell is set to humiliate David Cameron at the Clacton by-election sparked by his defection, a Survation poll for The Mail on Sunday has revealed.

The figures – the first test of public opinion since the politician rocked Westminster by defecting to Nigel Farage’s party – predict a record 48 point swing towards Ukip.

I am not a nat Ernie, neither do i make bulshit predictions

However Clegg got to be deputy prime minister on a smaller percentage of the votes cast at the last election than the UKIP are presently polling, so a possible hung parliament in the 2015 election with a Tory/UKIP government with Cameron and Farage as Prime minister and deputy prime minister is not such an outlandish possibility

Press conference at 6.30 might bring more news than Scepovic signing.

  27. Apparently Celtic received documents from City in plenty of time and faxed all the papers before 10pm. The SFA came back and said the player was still registered on loan to Stoke City. They needed a document from Man City confirming that the loan had been cancelled.

Despite several telephone calls and faxes, the missing document didn’t arrive until 11:15pm. In the meantime Celtic had applied for and been granted an extension by the SFA.

The SFA and UEFA have registered Guidetti as a Celtic player. The SFA and Celtic are simply waiting for final clarification from FIFA as it is their online registration system.

Both Celtic and the SFA are completely blameless and have done everything above board.

‘Ernie, do you believe in Jesus Christ or the Great Architect in the Sky?’

    Doesn’t everyone?

‘Do you believe The North of Ireland should remain part of the UK?’

That’s a tricky one. I always though that the war council of the IRA were the legitimate government of Ireland but they apparently no longer exist and I don’t know if they left a going away note or anything dealing with the issue. I’m maybe a bit old fashioned but I don’t agree with partition and I think Ireland should be reunited. It seems though that the Ulster Scots aren’t happy with that notion and most folk seem to think that they should be able to veto any such idea. I rather think that’s the SNP’s position too, though I stand to be corrected.

‘What is your opinion of Irish Nats?’

Bit of a mixed bag really. I’d differentiate them from Scot nats though, in so much as Ireland was a colony and the Irish were subjugated and discriminated against on account of their nationality, not least by the Scots. To that extent their nationalism was positive and progressive.

  32. James Forrest is praying for The Unconquerable Oscar Knox on

    NatKnow:

I understand his point, except that he claims to be making it as a counterpoint to mine.

I made no such point in the first place.

Someone said that by voting for independence I am, therefore, casting a vote in support of the SNP. I said that was a nonsense, and to prove it I offered the counter that the logic of that position was that a vote for the union was also a vote for the BNP, Orange Order etc.

The logic of a stupid position is stupidity. I never claimed to be stupid, or to hold such a stupid view. There are people in the Yes camp I want no part of, and at the risk of prompting all-out-war on this site (oh yes, that’s in the post) an example of one of them would be Tommy Sheridan.

(As I don my tin hat, and prepare for what’s clearly on its way.)

We all have to tolerate people on our side we would not normally wish. One of the posts my article on the flags got on Facebook was a sectarian, racist rant about Muslims. From a fellow Celtic fan.

I have very good, very clear, reasons for wanting independence. Some may appear frivolous to some people and indeed if they were the only reason I was thinking of voting that way then my vote could well be called frivolous and wasted.

I wish both sides respected each other more, but it’s become that kind of campaign. I was in politics long enough to realise it would turn out like this, but it makes it no less disappointing.
