Guidetti awaits Fifa, Scepovic held nerve

1862

Celtic await ratification of Guidetti’s transfer by the SFA.  The player travelled to Glasgow yesterday afternoon and quickly concluded a deal with Celtic, but it took until late in the evening before paperwork arrived from Manchester.

Aware of the delay, Celtic applied to the SFA for an extension.  The SFA authorised the extension and subsequently received all relevant paperwork, Celtic believed they were over the line, but I understand we are in new territory with respect to extensions, so the SFA have asked Fifa for guidance.

Paperwork was submitted considerably before Manchester United completed the 2am signing of Radamel Falcao, so there is reason for hope, but it’s not clear in Glasgow what discretion the FA used to register Falcao.  The same may or may not be available to the SFA.

There are also time constraints, player lists for Uefa group stage competitions need to be completed by 23:00 tonight, and we can’t add the player until Fifa issue guidance to the SFA.

If Celtic wanted a more complicated transfer than Guidetti they surely found it with our Serbian striker, Stefan Scepovic.  Transfers involving influences across multiple countries are often difficult……

One thing Celtic are clear about is the endurance of the player, who had to sit through difficult hours in order to make the deal happen.  He kept his nerve as others tried to sell him to Getafe – who were under no Financial Fair Play restrictions.

We’ll do a wrap-up of the window tomorrow.

  3. Fotbal Club Astra Giurgiu is a Romanian professional football club from Giurgiu, Romania.

Giurgiu (Romanian pronunciation: [ˈd͡ʒjurd͡ʒju]) is the capital city of Giurgiu County, Romania, in the Greater Wallachia. It is situated amid mud-flats and marshes on the left bank of the Danube facing the Bulgarian city of Ruse on the opposite bank. Three small islands face the city, and a larger one shelters its port, Smarda. The rich grain-growing land to the north is traversed by a railway to Bucharest, the first line opened in Romania, which was built in 1869 and afterwards extended to Smarda. Giurgiu exports timber, grain, salt and petroleum, and imports coal, iron, and textiles.

Manchester City striker John Guidetti remains hopeful that FIFA will duly approve his loan move to Celtic, as he bids to follow in the footsteps of fellow Swede Henrik Larsson.

The 22-year-old was rushed to Glasgow on Monday night in the hopes of sealing a last-minute switch before the 11pm transfer deadline, but there are doubts over whether the paperwork was completed in time.

‘It was chaos yesterday. I don’t think I ate all day,’ he told newspaper Sportbladet while on national team duty with the Swedish under-21 side.

‘It was just wait, wait, wait. Hundreds of fans stood outside the stadium and waited in the middle of the night.’

Things have progressed positively so far, with the Scottish FA accepting the transfer paperwork, but it now remains up to the world governing body to declare whether the move can be approved.

‘I hope that it sorts itself out with Celtic, otherwise I’ll have to stay at City and that’s not the worst thing that could happen,’ he added. ‘Unfortunately, the papers weren’t finished in time and now it’s up to FIFA to decide.’

Guidetti has struggled to make his mark at City since arriving from local club IK Brommapojkarna in 2008, but did enjoy a successful loan spell with Dutch side Feyenoord during the 2011-12 campaign, scoring 20 goals in 23 league games.

However, after spending the second-half of last season at Stoke, where he made just six substitute appearances under former manager Mark Hughes, the promising front man find himself behind the likes of Sergio Aguero, Edin Dzeko and Stefan Jovetic in the pecking order, with Manuel Pellegrini deeming him surplus to requirements.

Told to find a new club during the closing stages of the transfer window, Parkhead would pose an ideal destination for Guidetti to reignite his career, and the former Eredivisie star is hoping to emulate compatriot and Hoops legend Larsson.

‘We did actually talk about the number seven [Larsson’s old shirt] last night,’ he added. ‘They’re big shoes to fill, but it would have been fun.’
