Guidetti, life without the death-wish opponent

845

I see the story that Feyenoord are chasing John Guidetti has lasted more days than I expected.  John Guidetti is a likeable guy and seems to have enjoyed his time at Celtic, but he desperately needs to show some form before the end of the season if he is to attract the attention of Feyenoord or any team of that calibre.

One aspect often overlooked about Guidetti is his inexperience.  The player is still only 22 and had started only 30 games before arriving at Celtic Park last season, there’s a good chance that by the end of the season he will have played more games for Celtic than anyone else.  On paper, a season at Celtic was a chance to sort his career out, grab first team football at a prestigious club who were short of a centre forward.  Conversely, being kept out of the team by Leigh Griffiths will damage his reputation.

Barcabhoy sent me an interesting summary of Celtic’s material loss since the liquidation of Rangers.  The figures below compare the three years before Rangers liquidation with the two and a half years since.

As you see, even though we are comparing a shorter time period after liquidation, Celtic’s turnover and profitability is still miles better than when we had to compete with Rangers.

This should end any nonsense about Celtic needing or in any way missing Rangers.  We lost some revenue streams: domestic commercial and ticket income, but the slipstream to European revenues have more than made up for the gap.  More importantly, we are also no longer caught in an arms race with a death-risk opponent, allowing us to bring costs below income and plan longer than the current season.

  2. Morning all. I saw a post on here yesterday asking if the John Guidetti disciplinary case with the SFA last week actually went ahead. Did anyone provide clarification?

I consider myself first and foremost a very proud Scotsman. However, I’m also a fully papered up citizen of the ROI. That wee ROI passport has gotten me out of one or two dodgy moments in the past. In some places it really is a ‘get out of jail’ card.

I also love my history, especially of Scotland and Ireland but I do, of late, find myself forgetting so much of it. Hence, when I get the opportunity, I quite enjoy going back over it.

Anyway, all of mankind is enslaved today – not by other nations, but by international Freemasonry.

In saying that – the human mind can never be conquered, there are no barriers, boundaries or borders in the mind of the individual, regardless.

As for John Guidetti – In all fairness, he ignited the title charge when he first arrived at the club – at a time when the team was labouring.

If we do win this league title – JG played his part, and he will have earned his league medal. His contribution deserves to be recognised.

    I am grateful for that.

“In June, in my seventeenth year, I had decided to see what this Great War was like. I cannot plead I went on the advice of John Redmond or any other politician, that if we fought for the British we would secure Home Rule for Ireland, nor can I say I understood what Home Rule meant. I was not influenced by the lurid appeal to fight to save Belgium or small nations. I knew nothing about nations, large or small. I went to the war for no other reason than that I wanted to see what war was like, to get a gun, to see new countries and to feel a grown man. Above all I went because I knew no Irish history and had no national consciousness.” – Commandant General Tom Barry.

MOSCOW (Reuters) – Spartak Moscow have been fined a total 650,000 roubles (£8,549) by the Russian Football Union after racist slogans were displayed on a banner in a violence-marred league match against Arsenal Tula this month.

The match, won 1-0 by Tula, was also marred by violence in the stands with Spartak fans climbing on to the roof of the stadium and throwing flares and other objects at rival supporters.

“Due to the public display by their supporters of a banner, which included racist symbols (a Celtic cross), Spartak have been fined 200,000 roubles,” the Russian Football Union’s website stated.

“The club will also be banned from having supporters attend their next two away games (this will not include women and children up to the age of 12) in the Russian Premier League.”

Speaking to reporters, the head of the Disciplinary Committee, Artur Grigoryants, said: “Russia has signed up to all the necessary documents supporting the fight against racism and discrimination.

“A swastika and a Celtic cross are two of the main symbols, which are absolutely necessary to banish from the walls within a stadium along with banners with these emblems,” he added.

Arsenal Tula were also fined 840,000 roubles with the bulk of that sum for failing to provide adequate safety measures, leading to a supporter falling off the roof of the stadium and breaking both his arms.

Arsenal will also be forced to play their next Russian Premier League home match at a neutral venue.

Spartak are currently in seventh place on 36 points, while Arsenal are in 13th on 20 points.

  18. Good morning CQNers,

The evidence of Sandy Bryson, the SFA’s Head of Registrations, held the key as to why stronger punitive action was not taken by the tribunal.

Under questioning, he explained that a player, once registered with the ruling body, remained registered with them until such time as his contract ended or that player left their club’s employment.

Consequently, even though the complete details of his contract had been wilfully withheld or any other breach had occurred, that registration, once accepted, would stand.

As a result of that policy, it was not possible for Nimmo Smith and his learned friends to state that the players who had benefited from side letters detailing the amounts to be paid into Employee Benefit Trusts, should not have been fielded during the decade under dispute.

It therefore followed that the results of the matches played during that time were valid and that there could not be a case for stripping of titles. Hence the £250,000 fine on the oldco.

Ewing Grahame – Daily Telegraph 28/02/13

Bryson was also an SFA player in the Jorge Cadete and John Guidette registration debacles.

Whilst this placeman and others like him remain in place in the SFA we will not be able to enjoy a level playing field.

Some unbelievably pretentious snapshots of Bryson.

    Bobby,

Speaking from a little experience, that doesn’t surprise me. Unfortunately you may have to boycott most food produced here. Middle class liberals don’t understand that Labour’s disastrous immigration wave has allowed exploitation of foreigners to explode. If an immigrant complains, they just get another. Unlimited supply of cheap labour. Moreover, a lack of English allows further exploitation.

  21. Captain Beefheart on

One last point. Dismal rags such as the Express don’t want to acknowledge what our immigrants can bring to our community.

I first grasped that when those cockle-pickers drowned off Morecambe. It was the first time I had heard the term gangmasters used. People are routinely exploited now the way schoolkids were for ‘tattie-howking’ when I was a kid.

Or worse, since most kids still had a home to go to.

I was being a tad facetious with the opening to my post, but I posted it with serious intent. Correctly you point out the exploitation of immigrant labour.

Mort, congratulations on the new arrival.

  24. Rangers FC will be back in the same league as, Celtic FC next season…cheating…befouling…rioting…whatever it takes to get the huns back to the top will be done…I dont get that…Rangers FC were…liquidated???…if so, why do the huns still play at Ibrox stadium???…BDO are full of – hun-civil-unrest-fearing-pussies – it may say on a bit of paper that Rangers FC were liquidated and are now called – whatever – the ‘fact’ is…Celtic FC played, Rangers FC in the SLCSF at Hampden Park on the 1st of February 2015…and we won 2-0… so…who gives a flying duck what it says on a bit of paper?…thing is…Rangers FC would have been done-away-with-all-together…if, Celtic FC had took them on and, were duty bound to do so coz…limiting the financial ‘theft’ from Celtic FC to a period of…Walters 2nd term of office years….by my reckoning…Celtic FC were ‘done-out-of’…’£60 million’…and, thats not counting the rest of the ‘Murray-years’…the tainted 9 in a row etc…that…Celtic FC should have been in the ring boxing the Celtic supporters-corner…the same Celtic supporters who, queued overnight to buy shares to build their stadium so that, we could ‘compete’ in a corrupt league…having been threatened by Ernie Walker that – if we stayed at Celtic Park instead of ‘borrowing’ Hampden for a year at exorbitant masonic-screw-Celtic-prices…we’d be thrown out of the game and, all that we’d be able to play at Celtic Park was – Gealic football – and yet, the same Celtic hierarchy took a back seat when the huns were being investigated…instead of being in the boxing-ring wi the huns…fighting their cheated supporters and, shareholders corner and making sure that the huns would…NEVER…return for what they did…anyway…the great-Timmy-swindle…went unchallenged coz…Celtic’s hierarchy had no b#lls…and if they did and, put the huns to the sword for real…we’d be the feck out of this place but…thinking again…is it not coz the Celtic supporters are all ‘mainly’ capitalists these days that makes them want leave in the 1st place???….ye know how…the Celtic supporters have all become snobs instead of rebels that…maybe the huns back in the league…cheating…befouling…rioting…whatever it takes to get the huns back to the top again…is karmas answer to all the ‘nodding-dogs’ within the Celtic support and boardroom???…Hmmm?

Outspoken as usual but much truth in what you write. I’d say both us and sevco have lost some fans forever. There will be thems, totally scunnered at their club’s scandal (whilst never admitting it) who won’t go back. Equally, some of our own like yourself and a few others on this site, will not be party to any bent sporting contest which is sadly and effectively endorsed by the club they love.

  29. Kev/Marakesh,

Following or not following Celtic is not an option for me or for most supporters. Its just some thing we do akin to eating & breathing.

I enjoy eating, breathing and following Celtic, I know full well the day will come when all this must come to an end but what I do know is that I will continue to enjoy all 3 until the last day.

I didn’t read Kev’s post, I didn’t have to, he won’t have said anything different from what he has posted thousands of times before. I have no personal problem or dislike for the lad, its a blog and there is free speech but he continues to poison the well and constantly preaches doom & gloom. There is enough real doom & gloom in the world, ask the parents of the young Cork girl missing in Glasgow, that is real trouble & pain.

We are football Supporters, the worse thing that happens to us is we are hurt after losing a game. FFS, People like Kev need to wise up, enjoy following Celtic, enjoy being a Tim, enjoy Life.
