Guidetti, life without the death-wish opponent

845

I see the story that Feyenoord are chasing John Guidetti has lasted more days than I expected.  John Guidetti is a likeable guy and seems to have enjoyed his time at Celtic, but he desperately needs to show some form before the end of the season if he is to attract the attention of Feyenoord or any team of that calibre.

One aspect often overlooked about Guidetti is his inexperience.  The player is still only 22 and had started only 30 games before arriving at Celtic Park last season, there’s a good chance that by the end of the season he will have played more games for Celtic than anyone else.  On paper, a season at Celtic was a chance to sort his career out, grab first team football at a prestigious club who were short of a centre forward.  Conversely, being kept out of the team by Leigh Griffiths will damage his reputation.

Barcabhoy sent me an interesting summary of Celtic’s material loss since the liquidation of Rangers.  The figures below compare the three years before Rangers liquidation with the two and a half years since.

As you see, even though we are comparing a shorter time period after liquidation, Celtic’s turnover and profitability is still miles better than when we had to compete with Rangers.

This should end any nonsense about Celtic needing or in any way missing Rangers.  We lost some revenue streams: domestic commercial and ticket income, but the slipstream to European revenues have more than made up for the gap.  More importantly, we are also no longer caught in an arms race with a death-risk opponent, allowing us to bring costs below income and plan longer than the current season.

Hello again all you young rebels.

Now that my missionary work round Oz is over i’m finally drying

out, thirsty work that spreading the Celtic gospel and i’m chuffed

to report i met Good Celtic men everywhere we went.

Actually i’m amazed at the places they turned up and tremendous

credit to them all especially those ghuys who run the CSC’s

including CQN’s Paddymacoz who has started up two clubs in

his time over here, but in reality it will be difficult to retain the same

interest and get new members as long as Murdoch controls the

media over here, the EPL is all that is shown here, that and Aussie

rules or bat the baw, yet we have so many Celtic minded people in

radio, sports programmes, news, even prime time quiz show host

Eddie Mcguire whose family i believe came from the Garngad has

proclaimed his love, when i first arrived here you would find Celtic

tops in most sports shops but now your lucky if you can find one.

I noticed the same thing in Ireland two years ago when on a visit.

Now i’m not clever enough to find an answer but i would think the

retail and merchandise people earning the big bucks would find an

answer, i realise opening a shop selling only Celtic regalia may not

be sustainable but it could be combined with an Aussie rules club

or clubs, just my auld heids thinking.

For all you peninsula Celts another great day ahead this Sun. at the

usual venue, Shanakee the fabulous Irish band in attendance i won’t

be buying any drink as i ‘m drying out, but you can all buy me it if

    you like.

Looking at the table, there are a fair few matches outstanding. As some teams have already played their full allocation of 33,it’s clear that the plan was for all fixtures to be played by now.

Beats me why free midweeks are not being used to the full. ICT,like us,still have two to play. No reason why tonight couldn’t be one of them.

Not wanting to start an arguement but if the club currently playing at Ibrox reach the top league and decide to cheat just as the previous club did and Celtic suffer again will we just accept it again because we love Celtic ?

Sensible answers please. Anything that involves simply not taking part will be summarily dismissed.

Thanks for clearing that up,and that’s exactly what I was thinking, and Big John Hugh’s of Callly, is in the same frame of mind, he also said in this morning papers, “I don’t know why Celtic are playing tonight, they must have been made to” I take that it from that, that Cally told them to go a take a run and F… To themselves ?

I am usually a very cynical fella, and rarely happy wi the board at the best of times, but I genuinely don’t think we colluded in corruption.

I think we trusted in justice being done,a bit like Bonasera, the undertaker at the start of The Godfather.

We got shafted by vested interest. Should probably have seen it coming, but corruption on that scale takes some anticipating.

Anyway, shafted we were. Regardless of blame. Who do we go to for justice?

No. Apart from anything else there are far more resources available to people now to expose what they’re up to. I personally don’t think they’d be able to pull the same kind of scam again.

That would really just leave them with mibbery to aid them. That unfortunately is almost impossible to prove as cheating. I know you can compile stats of decisions by individuals and how they perform for or against us but it’s circumstantial.

Agreed. I believe we are in a far stronger position now than we previously were to ensure that.

One thing to bear in mind here, is that other teams could and should have been making the same noises. I think that now that many have prospered during the times without Rangers they’ll be less fearful of speaking up in future.

Do we not have a more even distribution now than previously? I might be wrong. I partially agree with you on this, although I think we’re hobbled by the SPFL negotiating on the basis that it’s all about two teams.

I know some clubs made half hearted noises about certain situations but nobody has really sustained a challenge to the corruption that has taken place . If all other clubs had insisted on the application of the rules then we wouldn’t be in this mess .

If this had happened to any other club then the rules would have been rigidly applied .

It’s analogous to the Marxist concept of cultural hegemony:

‘In Marxist philosophy, the term cultural hegemony describes the domination of a culturally diverse society by the ruling class, who manipulate the culture of that society — the beliefs, explanations, perceptions, values, and mores — so that their ruling-class worldview becomes the worldview that is imposed and accepted as the cultural norm; as the universally valid dominant ideology that justifies the social, political, and economic status quo as natural, inevitable, perpetual and beneficial for everyone, rather than as artificial social constructs that benefit only the ruling class.’

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cultural_hegemony

Or to put it more succinctly, ‘the ideas of the ruling class are in every epoch the ruling ideas’.

Maybe. I suspect thought that the incompetence at SPFL put them in a take or leave it situation.

It’s not a huge amount of money but I’m not sure we’re in a position to leave anything yet.

Every season that passes without a Rangers entity in the top league demonstrates that they’re not vital and reduces the fear factor of doing things without them in future negotiations.

Fear of the unknown is the defining aspect of this whole debacle, and to a point that’s fair enough but it’s not an excuse that can be used again.
