Guidetti, life without the death-wish opponent

845

I see the story that Feyenoord are chasing John Guidetti has lasted more days than I expected.  John Guidetti is a likeable guy and seems to have enjoyed his time at Celtic, but he desperately needs to show some form before the end of the season if he is to attract the attention of Feyenoord or any team of that calibre.

One aspect often overlooked about Guidetti is his inexperience.  The player is still only 22 and had started only 30 games before arriving at Celtic Park last season, there’s a good chance that by the end of the season he will have played more games for Celtic than anyone else.  On paper, a season at Celtic was a chance to sort his career out, grab first team football at a prestigious club who were short of a centre forward.  Conversely, being kept out of the team by Leigh Griffiths will damage his reputation.

Barcabhoy sent me an interesting summary of Celtic’s material loss since the liquidation of Rangers.  The figures below compare the three years before Rangers liquidation with the two and a half years since.

As you see, even though we are comparing a shorter time period after liquidation, Celtic’s turnover and profitability is still miles better than when we had to compete with Rangers.

This should end any nonsense about Celtic needing or in any way missing Rangers.  We lost some revenue streams: domestic commercial and ticket income, but the slipstream to European revenues have more than made up for the gap.  More importantly, we are also no longer caught in an arms race with a death-risk opponent, allowing us to bring costs below income and plan longer than the current season.

On your last sentence,I doubt anyone would disagree.

IMO,pressure was applied. The prospect of the huns folding petrified so many layers of Scottish society.

The police and politicians were running scared of civil disorder, the media faced losing their demographic, and football itself suffered from the biggest lie of all, that Scottish football was doomed without Rangers.

I still think that many football men expected the rules to be applied. And they were. By hun placemen who strangled at birth any attempt to do so while placing on statute their own interpretation thereof.

As I have said,it is natural for people who play by the rules to expect those same rules to be applied in every case. But eventually we cross the line between trust in what is right, and downright naivety.

Rangers played by the maxim of mob rule, intimidation, and never giving a sucker an even break.

    (Despite all that,they’re still FUBAR’d…)

I’m not discounting it out of hand but it’s as important for Hibs to be in the SPFL as it is for TRFC, so I don’t see them lying down. Motherwell, I’m not so sure about.

Naturally I’m not discounting mibbery, but it can only do so much.

There’s been enough talk out there about TRFC spending another season down there as a positive, that I wouldn’t be too surprised for them not to come up. It would certainly aid them as a football team and allow them to refresh the squad with youngsters. They won’t be allowed by the hordes to do that if they come up.

It’s great to see ghuys like Auldheid pursue the EBT scandal and resolution 12.

Yet I wish we would pursue the SFA for IMO wrongly allowing the transfer of Rangers FC’s membership to Newco Rangers.

For me this is the only thing that gives any “legitimacy” to the continuity myth.

It should have been robustly challenged at the time. Even now it may not be too late.

    ——————–

Totally with you on this one pal, although there’s simply NO WAY a version of “Rangers” was ever NOT going to be playing.

As far as I can make out, Article 10 of the SFA Articles Of Association must have been broken or, ahem, “bypassed”.

    It states that:

    Official Return

    10. Each full member and associate member shall lodge with the Secretary NOT LATER THAN 1ST JUNE (my caps) in each year the official return and shall notify in writing without delay any subsequent changes to the details contained in such Official Return to the Secretary.

    ——

Now, how could a club which didn’t exist on 1st June have done this….?

    Bueller, Bueller, Auldheid, anyone…..

  8. Anyway, work beckons, so that’s enough debate encouragement for one day. The gist of todays thought process is that whatever went on in the past looks like it could be at least watered down in the future if not totally eradicated. It’ll take a collapse of TRFC and another Rangers entity arising for that I think.

I have a Celtic jersey at home.

“The games against Celtic were special and I want to remember them.

“The performances of Fraser Forster against us were talked about for a long time. There was one game in Scotland where he was not human, it is the best goalkeeping performance I have seen.

“When Victor Valdes said he was leaving we even talked about him playing here.

I was sure he would end up at Arsenal, Chelsea, or Manchester United.

“Celtic Park is a tough place to go to, it is never easy to get a result there.

“We know we would get a tough game if we drew them in the Champions League, but everybody involved in those Barcelona v Celtic games wants to go and play there again.

“It is the best atmosphere in Europe and we all want to experience that again.”

It’s analogous to the Marxist concept of cultural hegemony:

‘In Marxist philosophy, the term cultural hegemony describes the domination of a culturally diverse society by the ruling class, who manipulate the culture of that society — the beliefs, explanations, perceptions, values, and mores — so that their ruling-class worldview becomes the worldview that is imposed and accepted as the cultural norm; as the universally valid dominant ideology that justifies the social, political, and economic status quo as natural, inevitable, perpetual and beneficial for everyone, rather than as artificial social constructs that benefit only the ruling class.’

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cultural_hegemony

Or to put it more succinctly, ‘the ideas of the ruling class are in every epoch the ruling ideas’.

I knew this stuff would come in useful one day.

    >

A marxist explanation for the hun riddled agendas of Scottish football. And probably the best explanation I’ve heard. Super.

I’m not a communist but Marx seems more and more relevant these days as the ruling classes become more adept at double speak and deflection and their influence begins to overwhelm the world. And that’s just the Daily record.

  23. Enough evidence posted overnight, special thanks to Auldheid’s contribution, to pursue justice re the cheating huns.Who in authority, will take up the torch and fight? Does a high ranking judge want this on his record? Would it bother him that evidence was not presented, and may have affected his judgement? Maybe BRTH or other legal bhoys on here could answer that.I think the only way is for fans to get organised , legally and financially, and bring it to the fore again.Sadly, there is no appetite for our Club, to challenge anything re Oldco/Newco/Sevco.I don’t think we will ever get the justice we want unfortunately.

  30. I read BGX last night attempting to say you couldnt prove that the hun gained a sporting advantage with the use of EBTs.

Its easy – they used illegal and/or immoral means to gain a financial advantage to employ footballers they would have been otherwise been unable to employ. This gave them better players using illegal/immoral means that others wouldnt use. Therefore they gained a clear sporting advantage.

This is clear and very easy to follow. The reason why LNS didnt find any sporting advantage was due to a technicality. It was a technicality he gladly accepted because it was completely in his power to rule on the bigger picture. That he didnt was because he didnt want to as he wanted to clear the hun. This in itself is of course more evidence of an institutionally racist scotland at work.

So we are clear on LNS’ motive for finding no sporting advantage, however what is less clear is BGX’s motivation. I think this is due for his needed desire to disprove that scotland is institutionally racist because it hampers his nationalist agenda for scotland. If this wilful blindness is common amongst nationalists then god help us all.

This flat earth society thinking is becoming rife on this site. Tom McLaughlin is keen on denying that celtic were not involved in the corruption surrounding the hun revival despite all the evidence to the contrary. Perhaps his motivation is to not hear anything bad about celtic.

Interestingly it appears we are moving into a new phase in scotlands institutional racism (well at least when it comes to the SFA and scottish football). It seems the new tactic is to bury investigations and disciplinary hearings to allow the country to remain in denial – the hun sectarian singing charge has dissappeared without a trace as has the JG charge. I wonder why? Is this a dignified silence on difficult matters and did they learn this from PL?
