Guidetti, life without the death-wish opponent

845

I see the story that Feyenoord are chasing John Guidetti has lasted more days than I expected.  John Guidetti is a likeable guy and seems to have enjoyed his time at Celtic, but he desperately needs to show some form before the end of the season if he is to attract the attention of Feyenoord or any team of that calibre.

One aspect often overlooked about Guidetti is his inexperience.  The player is still only 22 and had started only 30 games before arriving at Celtic Park last season, there’s a good chance that by the end of the season he will have played more games for Celtic than anyone else.  On paper, a season at Celtic was a chance to sort his career out, grab first team football at a prestigious club who were short of a centre forward.  Conversely, being kept out of the team by Leigh Griffiths will damage his reputation.

Barcabhoy sent me an interesting summary of Celtic’s material loss since the liquidation of Rangers.  The figures below compare the three years before Rangers liquidation with the two and a half years since.

As you see, even though we are comparing a shorter time period after liquidation, Celtic’s turnover and profitability is still miles better than when we had to compete with Rangers.

This should end any nonsense about Celtic needing or in any way missing Rangers.  We lost some revenue streams: domestic commercial and ticket income, but the slipstream to European revenues have more than made up for the gap.  More importantly, we are also no longer caught in an arms race with a death-risk opponent, allowing us to bring costs below income and plan longer than the current season.

    Congrats :-)

& Tony D, good to have you back as well, hopefully you can take some comfort from the CQN paving stone.

Now I,m thick :-) but as previously mentioned by MWD, what does this mean from Season Book Terms and conditions ?

“Each Celtic Seasoncard (the “Season Ticket”) is valid for entry to Celtic Park (the “Stadium”) by the person named on it (the “Holder”) for the following only: (i) for Full Adult Season Tickets and 65+ Season Tickets, for 21 home matches which shall be for (a) all home SPFL league matches and (b) such other home matches as nominated by the Club); (ii) for Under 13, 13-16, 17-18 and Student Season Tickets (“Youth and Student Season Tickets”), for (a) all home SPFL league matches excluding any matches against Rangers FC and (b) 2 other home matches as nominated by the Club (a minimum of 19 matches and a maximum of 21 matches); and (iii) for Special Season Tickets (if available), for (a) 17 home SPFL league matches (excluding any matches against Rangers FC) and (b) 2 other home matches as nominated by the Club (a maximum of 19 matches). Youth and Student Season Tickets are not valid for any home SPFL league match against Rangers FC, but Holders will have the opportunity to purchase a full price match ticket for entry to the Stadium for any such match(es) (purchase of a ticket by the Holder for such match(es) does not guarantee the Holder the use of the Holder’s normal seat and concession rates do not apply for such match tickets)”

Does this tell us, that if a team called Rangers enter the SPFL, your book does not cover these games if so Good, but why are we then paying for 21 home games

I will happily take my season book if this occurs for 19 home games, and at the cost for such

Now I may be wrong, as said thick :-)

Incidentally, from this morning, please do not associate my comment/question from last night, with KevJ post this morning

    Hail Hail

A load of Tory scaremongering. Chip paper in two days.

  4. CELTIC are set to be handed a third Premiership away game of the season to Inverness, St Johnstone or Dundee when the post-split fixtures are announced.

The matches are being finalised, in co-operation with the TV broadcasters and police, after the weekend results confirmed the composition of the top six.

The defending champions will play their 17th home game against Kilmarnock tomorrow night.

And, a week later, Celtic will play Dundee at Dens Park in their final game before the split.

That will be their 16th away game, which means they should have two home games and three away to complete the 38-match season.

However, due to the fact Dundee have pipped Hamilton to sixth place, the balance of 19 home and away games can’t be met without the Hoops playing one team three times away.

It has happened in previous years as the original fixture list for the first 33 games is loosely based on projected top-six placings using the previous season’s finishing positions.

But it is far from an exact science, and situations like this are the only solution to try and ensure no team gets an unfair advantage.

Celtic’s only real challenger for the title, Aberdeen, have the same imbalance, and will also have to play one club away for a third time to end the season with the same number of away fixtures as home games.

The three teams the Dons will have hosted only once by the time of the split are Celtic, St Johnstone and Dundee.

They will not be forced to play at Celtic Park again, so it will be Dens Park or McDiarmid Park they visit for a third time.

For now, Ronny Deila is more concerned about getting back on to the winning track tomorrow night when Killie come to Parkhead, then when his side meet Inverness in Sunday’s William Hill Scottish Cup semi-final at Hampden.

He is demanding a big improvement on last weekend’s stuttering performance which saw them held to a 1-1 draw by Caley Thistle.

And, though their fixture schedule is demanding, the Hoops boss is happy to have another game so quickly to get Saturday’s showing out of their system.

Deila said: “We want to get back to winning right away, and will look to pick up another three points against Kilmarnock to move eight points clear of Aberdeen.

“That could have been an important point we took at Inverness. You never know. But, in terms of a performance, we wanted more.”

Deila will be without the suspended Anthony Stokes and the cup-tied Gary Mackay-Steven and Stuart Armstrong for Sunday’s semi-final, so all three are likely to figure tomorrow night.

Kris Commons is also expected to start after dropping to the bench at the Caledonian Stadium.

Deila explained the decision: “That was because we wanted to give Kris a rest. But you do have to match Inverness physically, also.

“They are a strong team, and you have to be ready for that.”

Meanwhile, reports from Holland claim Feyenoord have now made John Guidetti – who becomes a free agent at the end of the season – a contract offer.

The Rotterdam club want to bring the Swedish striker back to where he was such a hit as a loan signing four years ago.

I think JG should be more selfish when he gets a look at goal, tries too hard to play in a team mate, needs a ruthless streak.

    ——————-

I think his confidence has crashed and that’s why he is less than incisive these days. But he still looks like a player to me.

He did himself no favours with all the eyelid-fluttering towards Feyenoord but I still hope he screws his head on and signs for us.

With his future settled, I think he would be a huge asset for us.

    Ragarding Ronny Deila’s furniture arrangements:

He doesn’t have a bed. Or even a sit-up mat. He has a very uncomfortable armchair under a standard lamp. When it’s bedtime he sits in the chair with his gun in his lap and switches the lamp off.

He is, in fact, Jean Reno in Leon.

I think you’ll find the Zombies were mentioned in connection with the SPL today because they are recalled somewhat nostalgically on the season book renewals, under ‘Rangers’ and some Celtic fans might need to move seats to accomadate the Zombie, should as you say, they make it through the night, and into a play off situation, by outfoxing all the other wee Diddy clubs.

There are Celtic supporters via the internets that will automatically be prompted to touch various letters on their keyboards at the sight of Zombie not only on ST renewal prompts but face to face in CP having stolen their seats, at a total shell out of £50.00 more than before, when Zombie was still busy on the journey.

I hope this helps (but doubt it in advance). CSC

greeninbingley-tend to agree, if he is on a Bosman.I get the impression it’s not about money for JG, his fitness has improved.I think he would play better with another striker, LG maybe? RD seems to have found a formation which has been doing well, maybe a bit more flexibility could see us play with 2 strikers at times.HH
